The<lb />temperature wus nearly normal during<lb />the week, but the nights have been too<lb />cool for cotton. Sufficient rain oecur-<lb />red everywhere; the amount of sun-<lb />shine was about fitty per cent. The<lb />next week is likely to be dry and warm.<lb /><lb />EASTERN DISTRICT.<lb /><lb />The weather was generally favora-<lb />ble this week, except that the nights<lb />were too cool for cotton, and in some of<lb />the northern counties (Halifax, Gates,<lb />Northampton, Hertford and Currituck )<lb />there was again too much rain, which<lb />prevented farm work and injured crops<lb />slightly. It is stili dry over portions<lb />of Craven county, but generally suffi-<lb />cient rain has fallen. Cotton continues<lb />fine, though not growing as fast ag it<lb />would with warmer weather ; some lice<lb />reported. Corn crop especially fine ;<lb />nearly all old corn hilled ; roasting-ears<lb />in market. Tobacco doing well; lay-<lb />ing by and topping begun ; worms not<lb />so numerous. Wheat-cutting and<lb />housing still in progress ; all sweet po-<lb />tatoes have been set ; peas and pea-nuts<lb />doing well. Peaches ana apples of an<lb />inferior quality in market<lb /><lb />CENTRAL DISTRICT.<lb /><lb />The past week, though too cool for<lb /><lb />cotton, was generally favorable, except<lb /><lb />where too much rain fell, where work<lb />has been interrupted so long that crops<lb /><lb />are getting grassy and need work badly.<lb /><lb />Considerable damage by a severe hail-<lb />storm occurred in Johnston county on<lb />the 9th and heavy rains locally in other<lb />counties on 9th and 13th. It is too<lb /><lb />~| eool for cotton, and lice are damaging<lb /><lb />it. Blooms have been seen in the<lb />south, indicating unusually advanced<lb />stage. Where clean and cultivated<lb />cotton is vigorous and healthy. Corn<lb />being laid by in good shape; some re-<lb />ports of damage by chineh bugs, in<lb /><lb />general crop better than for years.<lb /><lb />Tobacco doing well; early-set being<lb />laid by. Wheat harvest about over<lb />and much of it has been housed ;<lb /><lb />| thrashing just beginninng. Oats being<lb /><lb />cut. Many peas have been sown in<lb />stubble and are up and growing nicely.<lb />Blackberries ripening.<lb /><lb />WESTERN DISTRICT.<lb /><lb />Reports are nearly all favorable trom<lb />this district, though the weather has<lb />been a little cool in the west and north<lb />portions. Fine rains oecurred every-<lb />where and nowhere in excess. All<lb />crops are growing well. Cotton is<lb />larger than usual at this season ; first<lb />blooms reported on June 10th in Gas-<lb />ton county; very little trouble from<lb />lice. Cor. is making good stalk. ~To-<lb />bacco is growing off finely. Farmers<lb />about through cutting wheat (except in<lb />extreme west and north), and are rzady<lb />to begin thrashing. Oat harvest on<lb />hand ; spring oats improved. Chinch<lb />bugs cn many farms have gone from<lb />the wheat tields |to tho com and are<lb />damaging it, Many peas wereT sown<lb />this week, Blackberries are ripening<lb />and will be abundant ; other fruit poor,<lb />exrept grapes, which,are in good.condi-<lb />tionT Some farms are grassy, but the<lb />niujority in this district are clean and<lb />well cultivated.<lb /><lb />amen Mae oe ee<lb /><lb />i CH good salesman to<lb /><lb />Lin a Specialty Line::andT canvass<lb /><lb />: city and country trade in this State.<lb />j ~A party with,<lb /><lb />Wevidhd, bxperionée | phe<lb /><lb />fem. eres ean Ae<lb /><lb />oY atte<lb /><lb />N) if i ar ui ae<lb /><lb />i a Ait va ~ i<lb />eal a Mn 2 da arate cic a ee a a seemless ca hg SC Ren eee Tce aes ee EN EGE Lae SEE ae ae<lb /><lb />|were very much improved by their<lb /><lb />tee tn af<lb /><lb />~KINSTON vs. GREENVILLE,<lb /><lb />Score 19 to 41n Favor cf Kinston.<lb /><lb />The Kinston base ball club came<lb />over on the morning train to play a<lb />game with the Greenville club.
