Bashy teen ¥<lb /><lb />PUBLIC SCHOOL BOOKS.<lb /><lb />The Booxs Adopted for Use in tke<lb />«~Pubhe Schools in Pitt County for<lb />_ the Next Three~Years.<lb />Under a law passed by the last Leg-<lb />islature the adoption of books for the<lb />public schools was taken outT of the<lb /><lb />| hands of the State Board of Education<lb /><lb />and putin the hands of the County<lb />Commissioners of each county, this<lb />adoption to last fer three years.<lb />~Attheir meeting Monday the Com-<lb />missioners of this county performeT this<lb />duty by adopting without change the<lb />books now in use in the schools which<lb />had been adopted by the State Board<lb />of Education six years ago. We be-<lb />lieve this was wise because it does not<lb />require an additional tax upon our peo-<lb />ple in purchasing other books, which to<lb />say the least of it were no better than<lb />the ones now in use.<lb /><lb />The books now being used were se-<lb />lected with great care by a body of men<lb />fully competent to judge as to their<lb />merits.<lb /><lb />Besides it prevents any confusion<lb />upon the part of teachers and commit-<lb />teemen as to what books they should<lb />use. ,<lb /><lb />Especially is it gratifying to know<lb />that some firms that are largely respon-<lb />sible for the unwise, change in the law<lb />did not get a dingle one of their buoks<lb />in this county.<lb /><lb />LATE NEWS.<lb /><lb />nena ee AO<lb /><lb />Kate.
