That in no national convention -of<lb />this party has it ever at any time or<lb />place declared itself by resolution or<lb />otherwise infavor of the .single gold<lb />standard as the only 1edemption money<lb />or measure of values. That in no vote<lb />ever taken in the National Congress<lb />has a majority of the representatives of<lb />the Democratic party ever been found<lb />to favor the gold standard. That it<lb />cannot be fairly charged that the Dem-<lb />ocratic party, isa gold standard party<lb />~it must be admitted by all<lb />candid men that judged by its teach-<lb />ings, its traditions and its votes it is,<lb />and eyer has been the champion and<lb />friend of use of both gold and. silver<lb />as standard ot redemption money.<lb /><lb />3, That it. was the Republican party<lb />that transplanted the English gold<lb /><lb />this country and fixed it upon the<lb />American people, that until the Re-<lb />publican party came into the absolute<lb />control of the Government such a thing<lb />as the single gold standard had scarcely<lb />been of in American politics,<lb />that the Republican party isoin truth<lb />~Tao in fact the gold standard party and<lb />{that to it Jiould be attributed the eh<lb />¢, by this Anglo-Republican<lb />doctrine amon our people,<lb /><lb />A, Thatin making this declara~ion<lb /><lb />Dp ong oon ae om ot<lb /><lb />~id se ley ties and<lb />that thenare now, seeking | by. specious<lb /><lb />Shis odd ood Chine 4 pes Nant i:<lb /><lb />efor<lb /><lb />fad r<lb />A<lb />b That nag on Dircocrsie doc.<lb /><lb />and eal] upon : ~s<lb /><lb />we Tifieit unmindful of st fact. . a 0<lb /><lb />' es 4<lb /><lb />ment, while under the operations of nave<lb />the Anglo-Republican gold standard | ¢<lb /><lb />there has been a fmghtful shrinkage in<lb /><lb />values, a stagnation in trade, a paralysis | #<lb /><lb />in business enterprises, a general de-<lb />pression in agriculture, a restless discon-<lb />tent and an enforced idleness among the<lb />the people never before heard of in our<lb />country,<lb /><lb />6. That inthe candidate selected tor<lb />the high office of Governor the party<lb />has given incontéstable proof that it<lb />would be a calamity to the State to re-<lb />turn the Republican party to power<lb />under his leadership.
