L. JOYNER.<lb /><lb />There will be many changes in<lb />the tobacco world within the next<lb />twelve months. Just watch and<lb />wait and we will see some start.<lb />ling manifestations.<lb /><lb />It will soon be in order to know<lb />who will build the fifth warehouse<lb />in Greenville next year. The mar<lb />ket has added a new house every<lb />year since the first. The next<lb />best thing for Greenville is facto-<lb />ries to work up the abundance o,<lb />raw material that we have.<lb />Greene county grows the near-<lb />est white tobacco of any of the<lb />eastern covnties. Pitt county<lb />grows the best bright mahogauies<lb />and lemon cutters, but Craven<lb />county produces the most pliau!|,<lb />nid gloye feeling tobacco of any<lb />that is grown in eastern soil.<lb />There seems to be just enough of<lb />silica and vegetable matter in the<lb />soil to give 1} that soft and easy<lb />feeling, while there is not too<lb />much of either to make it heavy<lb />or spongy.<lb /><lb />One of the best things cae We<lb />have heard wastoid afew days<lb />ago by a young.man who 1s drum-<lb />ming tobacco for one of the<lb />Greenvil'e warehouses. He said<lb />in the section in which he was<lb /><lb />for Greenville he met with con<lb /><lb />siderable oposition and it was<lb />caused by the cross firing of sev-<lb />eral markets, it being nearly half<lb />way ground between them. One<lb />of them had taken sa yery good<lb />and influential farmer and given<lb />him a salary to solicit trade for<lb />them in his community. It hap-<lb />pened thatthe young man who<lb />was working for Greenville<lb />learned jast before reaching this<lb />immediate section that this good<lb />old citizen who was working for<lb />the other-market had sold a lot<lb />on the floor that he was working<lb />for the day before and had tucked|i<lb /><lb />every tag. He also knew that<lb />this man had been offered 17 cts<lb />around for his tobacco by a/th<lb />Greenville man- As he rode into<lb /><lb />NEXT DOOR TO BANK.<lb /><lb />the httle villiage that is in the<lb /><lb />trying to work up a lot of tobacco:<lb /><lb />STOP LYING<lb /><lb />Awake at night thinking about how and where you can spend your hard-earned |<lb />money to the best advantage. oYou want the best possible values ob-<lb />tainable when purchasing a thing for wear. itis more ..<lb />than right that you should have what you<lb />want. Surmis-<lb />ing the topic of conversation he<lb />too walked up and asked the<lb />drummer how tobacco was sell-<lb />ing on his market. Very. well,<lb />indeed, he replied and by the<lb />way, said he, I learn here that<lb />Greenville is busted. Oh na,<lb />said the Greenville man, taking<lb />the other by surprise, I was in<lb />Greenyille yesterday and sold to-<lb />bacco at satisfactory prices and<lb />am here to-day ready to give you<lb />17cts for the balance of that to<lb />bacco that you sold in""""<lb />yesterday at 124cts. His neigh~|<lb />bor farmer looked very much as-<lb />tonished and wanted to know if<lb />he didnTt get but 124 cts. for his<lb />tobacco. Qh said he I was fooled<lb />in my tobacco. It was not what<lb />I expected. Why did you take<lb />it in then? said the Greenville<lb />man. WellI, I thoughtI might}<lb />tbe able to get more ..another day<lb />bat my tobacco was not what I<lb />thought it was. Weill, said the<lb />Greenville man, Iam not fooled<lb /><lb />in it.
