F. Burch had been in poor<lb />ealth for several months and it<lb />ras not thought she would ever<lb />e well again. During Fridey<lb />ight she becams much worse,<lb />nd grew gradually weaker until<lb />:30 o'clock Mouday afternoon<lb />fhen her spirit took its flight<lb />rom earth to the better home<lb />bove. Her maiden name was<lb />\nnie Hopkins and she was<lb />orn near London, England,<lb />lept. 29th, 1834, making ho:<lb />early 61 years old at tne time of<lb />er death. Her parents came t:<lb />k\merica when she was 5 vears<lb />id and located in Wilmington,<lb />his State, where she grew up to<lb />vomanhood and married Mr.<lb />james A. Burch. Twodaughters<lb />nd one son were born to them.<lb />Both daughters and her husband<lb />laving preceded her to the<lb />rrave, her death leaves Mr. W. F.<lb />Burch the only living member of<lb />the family. dn his bereavement<lb />20d loneliness he has a host of<lb />friends both here and at Wil-<lb />mington, his old home, who<lb />deeply sympathize with him.<lb /><lb />Mrs. Barch came to Greenville<lb />to make her heme in 1899, and<lb />made many warm friends here.<lb />She was a member of the Meth-<lb /><lb />lodist church, lived the life of a<lb />ltrae Christian, 2nd was active in<lb />.works of benevolence.<lb /><lb />| The remains were asccompa-<lb />nieito the depot by Messrs. D.<lb /><lb />L, James, J. White. L. W. Law-<lb />rence, D. D. Haskett, W. BH. Rags.<lb />dale and B. F. Sugg as pull-bear.<lb />ers, and «# number of friends.<lb />The Ladies Aid Society, of the<lb />Methodist church sent a beauti-<lb />~ful floral tribute,<lb /><lb />A Worthy Cause.<lb /><lb />One of the most patriotic efforts<lb />ever made in North Caroliua to<lb />perpetuates the memory of the<lb />North Carolina soldiery since the<lb />ate war was that of raising the<lb />Beutonsyille Monument under the<lb />auspices of the Goldsboro Rifles,<lb />the 21st of last March. The ex,<lb />traordinary and successful mau-<lb />agement of this was due mainly<lb />to the energy of Capt. T. H. Bain,<lb />of the Goldsboro Rifles. Now<lb />the mcnument is paid for, there<lb />comes au earnest appeal iu a very<lb />uovel way to help place a suitabie<lb />fence around our noble dead.<lb />Foliowiug is a letter from Capt.<lb />Bain which explains itself. As<lb />ithe representative of that eftort<lb />~in Pitt county, I most earnestly<lb />appeal to evervbody, and espec-<lb />tally those who feel that loyalty<lb />and patriotism that is so ardently<lb />hurning apon the alter of their<lb />hearts.
