Thusthe Green-<lb />ville tobacco market continues to<lb />increase its facilities.<lb /><lb />The Woman's Edition of the<lb />~Southern Tobacco Jorurnal issued<lb />~for the benefit of the Twin City<lb />~Hospital is jast out. It is a lite"<lb />~rary treat indeed, and contains<lb />~interesting reading matter on va"<lb /><lb />mous topics, spiced with literary<lb />taste, which can only emanate<lb />~from the minds of cultured female<lb />writers, tempered in their exp res-<lb />~sion by the genial _ influence<lb />thrown around them in their sun-<lb />ny southern homes. Following is<lb />~the Greenville market report as<lb />prepared by Mrs. R. R. Another wrrehouse was<lb />built in 1892. and that year the<lb />two warehouses sold _ 1,200,000;<lb />pounds acd in 1893 the same two}<lb />warehouses sold 2.200,000. That year the<lb />Greenville market paid out $300,<lb /><lb />000 for tobacco, while the Jocal<lb />cotton market only distributed<lb />about one half that amount. This<lb />increase of circulating currency<lb />has caused an increase of business<lb />in every brauch of trade, and<lb />lifted to some extent the dark<lb />cloud of pressing necessities<lb />which had aepressed the farmer.<lb /><lb />~he average price of tovacco<lb />for the last four years has been<lb />104 cents.<lb /><lb />There are eight prizeries here<lb />now, with bright prospects of<lb />others at an early day. The Amer-<lb />ican Tobacco Company has one<lb />40x140, with five floors, and with<lb />a capacity for re-ordering a balf<lb />million pounds during the sea":<lb />son.<lb /><lb />The increase of population in<lb />Greenville since 1890 has beer<lb />equal to, if not gieater, than for a<lb />decade prior to that time. This<lb />is direcily attributable to the to-<lb />bacco market, which is proved by<lb />the fact that the neighboring<lb />towns have not increased propor-<lb />tionately.<lb /><lb />The present season opens aus-<lb />piciously. After<lb />cooling, the lettering and figuring<lb />are printed on the plate with soft<lb />black enanael by transferring. The<lb />dia! is again placed in a ~~muffle, or<lb />oven-shaped vessel, to fuse the<lb />enamel of the lettering or figuring.<lb />The enamel used is composed of<lb />white lead, arsenic, flint-glass, salt-<lb />peter, borax and ground flint, re-<lb />duced to powder, fused and formed<lb />into cakes.<lb /><lb />The MuleTs Misfortune.<lb /><lb />_An old darky lived in the south<lb />who was a great barterer, and it<lb />was very hard to beat him on a<lb />trade. It seems he had sold a mule,<lb />guaranteeing him faultless. The<lb />purchaser shortly after came back in<lb />a great rage, and said:<lb /><lb />~~Look here, you rascal, that mule<lb />you sold me is blind in one eve; you<lb />assured me he had no faults.<lb /><lb />o *DavTs right, sah; dat mule habe<lb />no faults.
