Thompson,<lb />for many years manager Of a<lb />New England mill company that<lb />operates 420,000 spindles, the<lb />largest mill company in America,<lb />und now president of the Corliss<lb />Engine Works, writes very<lb />strongly in favor of the South's<lb />pre-eminent advantages for cot-<lb />ton mills.<lb /><lb />Mr. ©. R. Makepeace, a leading<lb />NewEngland cotton mill archi-<lb />tect, and Mr. A. B. Shepperson,<lb />the cotton statistician, take the<lb />same view. Mr. F. E. Saunders.<lb />of Lowell, proves ty the official<lb />reports of the United States Wea-<lb />ther Bureau, that in average mean<lb />temperature and humidity, the<lb />SouthTs climate is much superior<lb />to that of Massachusetts for the<lb />mannufecture of fine cotton goods.<lb />There are 124 pages, which makes<lb />this issue the largest industrial<lb />publication ever printed in the<lb />South. The extent of its circula-<lb />tion is, however, the most strik-<lb />ing feature and one calculated to<lb />do, not onlv cotton, but all South-<lb />ern interests a world of good. A<lb />copy of this issue 1s sent to every<lb /><lb />leading mills in Great Britain, and<lb />to all the textile machipery hous-<lb />es in both, and with every one of<lb />these copies a special letter is<lb />sent calling attention to the pre<lb />sentation of facts made in behalf<lb />~of the South.
