Cherry aa<lb />McLawhorn finished<lb />their tobacco plants on<lb /><lb />out<lb />Tuesday.<lb /><lb />They are the first to finish in the<lb />haye just<lb /><lb />county, most farmers<lb />commenced. .<lb /><lb />on Five Points.<lb /><lb />TOWN TAX LEVY<lb /><lb />Total Increase of 663 Percent.<lb /><lb />The Board of Councilmen, five<lb />of the members being present,<lb />met Tuesday afternoon, i<lb />30th, for the purpose of making a<lb />levy of town taxes for the coming<lb />year.<lb /><lb />The tax on real and personal<lb />property was inc from 25<lb />cents to 333 cents on each $100<lb />valuation, and an_ additional<lb />special tax of 84 cents was levied.<lb /><lb />The poll tax was increased from<lb />75 cents to $1, and an additional<lb />special tax of 25 cents on each<lb />poll was levied.<lb /><lb />This makes a total increase in<lb />regular and special taxes of 66%<lb />vercent. over last year. The in-<lb />creased amount of revenue from<lb />this levy will be about $500 on<lb />the regular taxes and $500 on the<lb /><lb />special taxes.<lb /><lb />In making the special levy of<lb />8h cents on each $100 valuation<lb />and 25 cents on exch poll, the<lb />Board passed an order that the<lb />proceeds raised from this special<lb />tax shall apply, first. to tiling and<lb />drainage; second, water supply ;<lb />third, street-improvements, and<lb />can be used for no other purpose.<lb /><lb />All the schedule or privilege<lb />taxes remain the same as for last<lb />year with the exception of law-<lb />yers, the last Legisiataure passin<lb />a law relieving them of municip<lb />privilege tax.
