The showing is a won-<lb />derful exhibit of growth and de-<lb />velopment. In 1884 the trade of<lb />Norfolk owas estimated at $48,<lb />007,500; the business for last<lb />year reached .$91,198,348, nearly<lb />double. NorfolkTs population in<lb />1884 was abou 25,000; it is now<lb />50,000. Its area was embraced in<lb />880 ecres; it now occupies 2,470<lb />acres. Its postal receipts were $43,<lb />260.27 - they are now $83,309.48.<lb />The number of buildings erected<lb />in eight years was 2,253, at a val-<lb />ue of nearly $5,000,000. Last year<lb />-443 buildings.were erected at a<lb />costof $951,838.
