During<lb />the year 28 enlisted men were<lb />honorably discharged and 12<lb />dishonorably discharged. That<lb />theré is a decided and steady mii-<lb />itary spirit is shown by the fact<lb />that since February, 1593, no iess<lb />than 26 applications for permis-<lb />sion to organize companies ohave<lb />been received. This increase is<lb />despite the abolition of fancy<lb />uniforms and fancy soldiering.<lb />The Adjutant General strongly<lb /><lb />in camp be rationed and that<lb />some compensation be allowea<lb />them.<lb /><lb />The First Regiment, 8 compa-<lb />nies, has an effective strength of<lb />334; the Second, with 7 compa-<lb />nies, has 356; the Third, with 7<lb />7 companies, 337; the Fourth,<lb />with 8 companies, 339; cavalry<lb />troops and puoattached infantry<lb />company, ( ored) 83; three di-<lb />visions Naval Reserve, 155; bri-<lb />gade staff 8; general staff 138;<lb />total 1,620, or 235 less than in<lb />1893. Eighty-eight per cent. of<lb />the troops wefe present at inspec-<lb />tions.
