          <lb />Sow A Seed<lb /><lb />Joy R. Brown<lb />Can We Talk?<lb />Part I<lb /><lb />Good men gone bad!? Is this<lb />a Statement or a question, one<lb />may.ask? Good men, what is<lb />a good man? Mr. David<lb />Payton wrote a play several<lb />years ago with the challenging<lb />title, oA Good Man is Hard to<lb />Find. ? As I examined the title<lb />of the play, I realized what Mr.<lb /><lb />Payton was expressing. There T<lb /><lb />is an innumerable amount of<lb />good men walking upon the<lb />face of the earth undiscovered<lb />because of how they may<lb />appear outwardly. However,<lb />there is.an underlying factor<lb />that has caused the good men<lb />to revert to the obad boy ?<lb />syndrome. Do I have the<lb />answer? No, of course Ido not<lb /><lb />have a valid answer. DoT have<lb />"the insight to why some of the<lb /><lb /> ogood ? men have turned<lb /> obad? ? I believe I do.<lb /><lb />As you continue to read, please<lb /><lb />"have an open mind and spirit<lb /><lb />to realize I am entitled to voice<lb />My OWN opinion, no matter<lb />how absurd and far fetch<lb />someone may think it is,<lb /><lb />. Recently, I was engaged in.a<lb /><lb />conversation with a newly<lb />divorced young man. As he<lb />gathered the reflections of a<lb />malicious divorce, I could hear<lb />the heart of this brother. He<lb />acknowledged that his vows<lb />were sacred. He stated, oJoy,<lb /><lb /> reminisced on<lb /><lb />, when I recited<lb />my vows; |<lb /><lb />a life time<lb />commitment not<lb /><lb />pleasure. ? As I<lb />listened to his<lb />heart, he<lb />explained that<lb />his wife never<lb />communicated<lb />with him, only<lb />argued. and<lb />elaborated on<lb />the things he did<lb />not do while<lb />, avoiding the<lb />things he did.<lb />Communication was the<lb />highlight of this brother Ts<lb />conversation. As I<lb />the<lb />conversation we had, I<lb />summed it up with one<lb />word.<lb />Fatience.<lb /><lb />Yes, men have their faults,<lb />but we as women have ours<lb />as well. Women, we make<lb /><lb />attempts. to educate and =<lb /><lb />school our brothers by<lb /><lb />exemplifying the omother ?<lb /><lb />figure. Most. men will<lb />quickly tell you they did not<lb />marry their mothers. We as<lb />women, have a tendency to<lb />talk at a man instead of<lb />communicating with him.<lb />If you speak, he will listen.<lb />If you yell, he will shut<lb />down. Common courtesy is<lb />the essence of what men<lb />want. Yes, if we examine<lb />each relationship we Tve<lb />been involved, we can<lb />always find the negative.<lb />However, when we magnify<lb />the negative we minimize<lb />the positive.<lb /><lb />You may say, oJoy, you are<lb />single, how can you tell me<lb />how to handle my<lb />relationship? ? Believe me,<lb />in this case, I wish<lb />experience was not the best<lb />teacher, however it was. I<lb />was in T a healthy<lb />relationship, a man with no<lb />major baggage. However,<lb />I allowed my ogirlfriends ?<lb />to influence the course or<lb /><lb />recited them for<lb /><lb />for temporary<lb /><lb />That word is.<lb /><lb />direction of my relationship.<lb />This brother would open doors,<lb />buy me flowers, hold my hand,<lb />tell me how beautiful I was,<lb /><lb />treat me like a queen and more.<lb />He was every woman Ts dream<lb />man, someone to call just to say<lb /><lb />' oT love you ? or someone who<lb /><lb />managed love by spontaneity,<lb />I remembered once having a<lb />disagreement with this young<lb />man. Before, I continue,<lb />women, we have to learn how<lb />to handle our minor<lb />discomforts within the<lb /><lb />~-parameters of our relationships.<lb /><lb />Simply put, keep your<lb />relationship private and not<lb />display it publicly. It was just<lb />that, a disagreement.<lb />Throughout the years, I Tve<lb /><lb />learned that disagreements are<lb /><lb />good. It Ts healthy and part of a<lb />well balanced relationship. The<lb />young man I was involved with<lb /><lb />was always the level headed<lb /><lb />one and yes, I was the one that<lb />would ofly off the handle. ?<lb /><lb />_ This disagreement could have<lb /><lb />been settled if I had not<lb />involved my girlfriends who<lb />made statements such as oIf I<lb />were you, I would not take that<lb />from him ? or oGirl, you are<lb />crazy if you trust him. ? If I had<lb /><lb />probably be together today.<lb />The Word of God states in<lb />Proverbs 21:9, oIt is better to<lb /><lb />dwell in a corner of the<lb />housetop than with a brawling.
