          <lb />Mrs Beatrice Maye<lb /><lb />Audrey Chapman, author of<lb />Getting Good Loving says,<lb /> oAs black folks we often<lb />have to face some of life Ts<lb />most difficult challenges. Yet<lb />we cannot afford to<lb /><lb />become to discouraged. We:<lb />must develop a cultural<lb />worldview of what black love<lb />is-not let ourselves be defined '<lb />by traditional Eurocentric<lb />notions of romantic<lb /><lb />passion. ? Love of your<lb />neighbors, love of your<lb />family, and love of yourself<lb />all require the same qualities:<lb />patience, understanding,<lb />respect, trust, honesty,<lb /><lb />and a willingness to sacrifice<lb />for the good of the entire<lb />relationship. We as<lb /><lb />African Americans have great<lb />personal power and the ability<lb />to be creative.<lb /><lb />Our ancestors knew how to<lb />make the most out of very<lb /><lb />little resources and we must<lb />capitalize on the legacy. Love<lb />was never a resource we were<lb />short of. Blacks have<lb /><lb />always had an abundance of<lb /><lb />caring and a profound sense<lb />of community. Collectively,<lb />black men and women need<lb />to recognize that we can<lb />decide to spend our time<lb />together | |<lb /><lb />in gcse T state or a loving -<lb />one.<lb /><lb />We do not have to allow<lb />myths and sterotypes about<lb />ourselves andour<lb />relationships to determine the<lb />shape and texture of our<lb />future together.<lb /><lb />Audrey Chapman is a<lb />nationally known figure in the<lb />area of male and female<lb />relationships.<lb /><lb />10 Commonalties That<lb />Effect A Man Ts Personality<lb />in Different Ways:<lb /><lb />1. Most men have been to<lb />being directed and influenced<lb />by women. Men<lb /><lb />grow up to become dependent<lb />on women for compassion,<lb />nurturance, and direction.<lb /><lb />2. Most men crave being the<lb />,center of attention. The deep-<lb />rooted need for attention is<lb />why sons, husbands, become<lb />jealous of their wives T career<lb />or even the birth of a child.<lb /><lb />3. Men need to feel important<lb /><lb />NV<lb /><lb />and do well in their work.<lb />Most men are boastful and<lb />life to brag.. Work brings a<lb /><lb />Satisfaction to men when they<lb /><lb />enjoy what they do.<lb />Happiness at home and at<lb />work is very much<lb /><lb /> interrelated for most men.<lb /><lb />4. Most men are preoccupied<lb />with sex. Most men equate<lb />sex with T manhood. One of<lb />the<lb /><lb />reasons men fear growing old<lb />is his fear of impotence. Men<lb />having trouble showing<lb />feelings and emotions, so sex<lb />means intimacy for most of<lb />them. Men find it hard to<lb />express their feelings so sex<lb />provides an outlet for him to<lb />confront his emotions and<lb />express them to his wife in<lb />the most private setting.<lb /><lb />5. Most men have<lb />competitive spirits. They<lb />want to lead and be the<lb />aggressor.<lb /><lb />6. Most men try to hide their<lb />feelings and emotions. Men<lb />equate manliness with being<lb />strong, rational, and in<lb />control.<lb /><lb />7. Men handle stress<lb />differently from women.<lb />Having a woman to depend<lb />on can help a man deal with<lb />stress. Some men bottle up<lb />their feelings and emotions<lb />through-alcohol and drugs.<lb />All men desire to be in<lb />control or at the head of<lb />something. Beside every<lb /><lb />eflections<lb /><lb />\<lb /><lb />great man is a woman who<lb />listens, understands, supports,<lb />and encourages her husband<lb />when he is under pressure:<lb /><lb />8. Most men have a desire to<lb />be providers and protectors of<lb />women. A man Ts needs to be<lb />the provider and protector is a<lb />reason that he feels insecure<lb />when his mate becomes<lb />successful in her'career.<lb />Failing in the roles as<lb />providers and protectors is a<lb />serious blow to a man Ts ego,<lb />causing mental anxiety and<lb />self-esteem problems as well.<lb />9. Most mean, believe it or<lb />not, have oeggshell ? fragile<lb />egos. As strong as they try to<lb />appear, men bruise very<lb />easily. Many times it takes a<lb />woman to help him to regroup<lb />or make a comeback.<lb /><lb />10. Most men are oboys ? at<lb />heart. Men really do mature<lb />slower than women. Many<lb />men never fully mature until<lb /><lb />_ they are about forty years old.<lb /><lb />A woman must be skilled at<lb />handling a man Ts ego is not<lb />everything and that connect-<lb />ing to his spiritual self is most<lb />important. |<lb />From: oInside Ever Great<lb />Man....is a Great Woman ? by<lb />Kitty J. Jones<lb /><lb />Condoleeza Bush " "<lb />What Ts Up With This Sister?<lb /><lb />Did she really slip up at a<lb />public function and refer to<lb />George Bush as<lb /><lb /> omy husband? ? Say it ain Tt<lb />so, Condi. This sister seems<lb />to be on a personal<lb /><lb />mission to take us into war<lb />again, this time with Iran.<lb />With an arrogance only<lb />equaled by her oHusband ?,<lb />the Babe of Birmingham<lb />struts her stuff around the<lb />world, wagging her finger at<lb />heads of state like they are her<lb />children. In her latest<lb /><lb />threat, (oops) I mean peace<lb />mission, she tells Iran that the<lb />US will only sit down to<lb /><lb />talk if Iran stops all<lb />production of nuclear<lb />materials. That Ts real cute,<lb />Condi. Why should<lb /><lb />the Iranians do exactly what<lb />you told them to do in the first<lb /><lb /> place? And, if they submit<lb /><lb />to your demand, why should<lb />there be any talks at all? I<lb />have said it before and just<lb />for good measure I will say it<lb />again. For a person as<lb />intelligent as our Secretary of<lb />State<lb /><lb />to be infatuated with a dunce<lb />is one thing, but for her to<lb />defend oHis Ridiculousness ?<lb />is<lb /><lb />something else again. I don Tt<lb />know how any moral and<lb />righteous person could<lb />support<lb /><lb />this guy.<lb /><lb />All of this craziness rests in<lb />the lap of our vaunted<lb />Secretary of State, the sister<lb />who received the NAACP<lb />President Ts oMedal of Honor ?<lb />so to speak, and the Sister<lb /><lb />i who claims her Birmingham<lb /><lb />roots where four little girls<lb />were killed by a bomb during<lb /><lb />church services. One of these<lb />girls supposedly was Condi Ts<lb />friend.<lb /><lb />Can Condi pull us out of this<lb />mess in Iraq, Afghanistan,<lb />Iran, and North Korea as<lb />Israel and the Hamas-led<lb />Palestinians renew their war<lb />against each other? Can she<lb />call upon her distinguished<lb />bravery to settle these issues?<lb />?,?an she use her power and<lb />influence to move us beyond<lb /><lb /> the daily threat of onuclear ?<lb /><lb />war and bring us back to the<lb />calm, prosperous, and<lb />peaceful days prior to her<lb /> ohusband Ts ? arrival on the<lb />scene? Will she go down in<lb />history as one of the most<lb />talented public officials who<lb />worked for and defend the<lb />worst president we have had?<lb />Will Condi, our sister,<lb />whether she realizes it or not,<lb />go down in flames with the<lb />Bushites " and with the rest _<lb />of us as this world moves<lb />closer to annihilation? Will<lb />she preside over our<lb /><lb /> economic demise, as she<lb /><lb />smiles in admiration for her<lb /> ohusband ??<lb /><lb />Who knows the answers to<lb />these questions? We will just<lb />have to wait and see, but I<lb />suggest we prepare ourselves<lb />for even tougher times. We<lb />are in the midst of something<lb />we have never before<lb />witnessed. The greed among<lb /><lb />the Bushites is off the charts,<lb />the value of a US solider Ts<lb /><lb />life is at an all-time low. We<lb />have spent nearly a trillion<lb />dollars in Iran and<lb /><lb />corporate thieves. All of this |<lb />and we cannot, or will not . aes<lb />provide the armor needed by T<lb /><lb />our troops on the battlefield.<lb />Can you imagine having to<lb />solicit money from citizens to<lb />buy extra padding for our<lb />soldier Ts helmets? How sad<lb />is that? .<lb /><lb />I don Tt know what Condi Ts<lb />next move is going to be, but<lb />I do know that we are in a big<lb />mess, much of which is<lb /><lb />caused by her two-fisted,<lb /><lb />cowgirl swagger around the<lb />world. We could attribute her<lb />behavior to her association<lb />with the biggest buffoon ever<lb />to hit the political stage, but I<lb />think she Ts too smart for that.<lb />Maybe it Ts the way George<lb />holds his arms out as he<lb />walks, as though he Ts about to<lb />draw down on someone;<lb />maybe<lb /><lb />it Ts his west Texas, rolled-up<lb />sleeve, plain-talkin T drawl that<lb />keeps her interested; could it<lb />be his childlike characteristics<lb />that bring out Condi Ts<lb />motherly instincts? Maybe<lb />it Ts his cowboy boots that turn<lb />her on-so much.<lb /><lb />Face it Condi, contrary to<lb /> oFifty Cent Ts ? claim that<lb />George Bush is a gangsta, ya<lb />boy is a punk, a spoiled brat, a<lb />scared bully who sacrifices<lb />the lives of young soldiers to<lb />strut his stuff on the world<lb />stage, and then hide behind<lb />the skirts of a sister. Maybe<lb />you should consider a<lb />divorce, Condi.<lb /><lb />Extracted from an article by<lb />James Clingman, former<lb /><lb />Afghanistan, much of which_ editor of the Cincinnati<lb /><lb />cannot be accounted for, or<lb />doled out in no-bid contracts<lb />to Haliburton and other<lb /><lb />Herald Newspaper<lb />Submitted by Suejette A.<lb />Jones:<lb /><lb />Healthwise<lb />Pharmacy<lb />752-0338<lb /><lb />615 South Memorial Dive, Greenville, NC 27834<lb /><lb />1 Home I<lb /><lb />, * Herbal Supplements<lb /><lb />- P ? The Charlotte<lb /> onative is a 1969 graduate of<lb />the UNC-Chapel Hill School<lb />of Law; served in private<lb />practice until 1984, and then<lb />was appointed to the NC<lb />Court of Appeals that same<lb />year, where she was later<lb />elected twice.<lb /><lb />In 1993, Justice Parker was<lb />elected as an Associate Justice<lb />_ to the NC Supreme Court,<lb />where she has remained.<lb /><lb />In February 2006, Gov. Mike<lb />Easley appointed Parker to<lb />become the High Court Ts<lb />Chief Justice, where she has<lb />served with dignity and<lb />distinction.<lb /><lb />Among the many honors and<lb />recognitions for her tireless<lb />work for women and the poor,<lb />Justice Parker earned the NC<lb />Association of Black County<lb />Officials Humanitarian Award<lb />in 2003.<lb /><lb />State Supreme Court justices<lb />serve eight-year terms. We<lb />proudly endorse this<lb />experienced, knowledgeable<lb />and devoted jurist for re-<lb />election, NC Supreme Court<lb />Chief Justice Sara Parker.<lb /><lb />ASSOCIATE JUSTICE<lb />PATRICIA TIMMONS-<lb />GOODSON<lb /><lb />There is no question about the<lb />heart, experience and<lb />commitment to justice of NC<lb /><lb />hee<lb /><lb />Associate Justice Patricia<lb />Timmons-Goodson. No<lb />matter what her career<lb />successes, this able jurist has<lb />never forgotten her cigar<lb />family or community, and<lb />continues now, long after<lb />Gov. Easley appointed her to<lb />the state Ts High Court last<lb />January, to share her vision of<lb />justice in communities across<lb />the state.<lb /><lb />Justice Timmons-Goodson is<lb />the first Black woman ever to<lb />serve on the NC Supreme<lb />Court, and only the fourth<lb />woman overall to do so.<lb /><lb />The Florence, S.C. native is a<lb />1979 graduate of the UNC-<lb />Chapel Hill School of Law.<lb />Timmons-Goodson began her<lb /><lb />and then later in<lb />practice, until s<lb />appointed as a District Court<lb />judge in 1984. Jim Hunt<lb />appointed her to the NC Court<lb />of Appeals in 1997.<lb /><lb />Timmons-Goodson retired<lb />from the Appellate Court in<lb />2005, until Gov. Mike Easley<lb />chose her to make history on<lb />the NC Supreme Court in<lb />February 2006.<lb /><lb />Justice Timmons-Goodson<lb />has made all of us proud with<lb />her achievement and<lb />commitment to truth. She has<lb />our overwhelming<lb />endorsement for election on<lb />Nov. 7.<lb /><lb />RACHEL LEA HUNTER<lb />FOR NC SUPREME<lb />COURT<lb /><lb />She is certainly flamboyant,<lb />most definitely controversial.<lb />She called herself oMadame<lb />Justice, ? and proclaims her<lb />independence from the<lb />political machine, keeping her<lb />faith in the common sense of<lb />the people.<lb /><lb />Attorney Rachel Lea Hunter<lb />is a otake-no-prisoners ?<lb /><lb />fighter who believes the<lb />criminal justice system should<lb />serve the people.<lb /><lb />A native of Monroeville, Pa.,<lb />Hunter earned her law degree<lb />from the University of<lb />Pittsburgh in 1988, graduating<lb />in the top third of her class.<lb />She served as a judicial law<lb />clerk until January 2001,<lb />when she joined a law firm in<lb />Durham, where she presently<lb />practices.<lb /><lb /> oWe have a two-tiered system<lb />of justice in this country, ?<lb />Hunter told the NC Bar<lb />Association Convention last<lb />June. oThere is one brand of<lb />justice for the rich and<lb />powerful (Dick Cheney and<lb />Patrick Kennedy are recent<lb />examples). There is another if<lb />you are poor or African<lb />American or a member of<lb />some other minority. ?<lb /><lb /> oA system of justice that<lb />favors the rich and powerful<lb />cannot long survive and we<lb />need to restore justice to all<lb />people so that they can once<lb />again have confidence in our<lb />courts. ?<lb /><lb />Hunter is young, but she long<lb />experience in researching<lb />judicial opinions and issues,<lb />in addition to her noble<lb />commitment to making the<lb />judicial system work for all<lb /><lb />e, makes her a unique<lb />pice for the NC Supreme<lb />C )<lb /><lb />We wholeheartedly endorse<lb />Rachel Lea Hunter.<lb /><lb />JUDGE ROBIN HUDSON<lb />FOR NC SUPREME<lb />COURT<lb /><lb /> oFair and impartial. ?<lb /><lb />That is the trademark of NC<lb />Appellate Court Judge Robin<lb />Hudson, a candidate for the<lb />NC Supreme Court. Judge<lb />Hudson holds the distinction<lb />of being the first woman to be<lb />elected to the NC Court of<lb />Appeals without first being<lb />appointed by a sitting<lb />governor. She has served<lb />since January 2001, and in .<lb />2004, was honored by the NC<lb />Academy of Trial Lawyers<lb />with the Outstanding<lb />Appellate Judge Award.<lb /><lb />Judge Hudson has a<lb />distinguished legal career<lb /><lb />spanning over 30 years. She has our<lb />endorsement.<lb /><lb />JUDGE ROBERT<lb /><lb /> HUNTER FOR NC COURT<lb /><lb />OF APPEALS<lb /><lb />Few candidates for a judicial<lb />seat get the mountain of<lb />endorsements that NC Court<lb />of Appeals Judge Robert C.<lb />Hunter has received.<lb />Everyone from the NC Police<lb />Benevolent Association to the<lb />state Ts major newspapers all<lb />agree that Judge Hunter has<lb />brought a consistent record of<lb />fairness, independence and<lb />balance to the court.<lb /><lb />Now he Ts vying for a second<lb />term.<lb /><lb /> oMy reputation as a judge is<lb />one who will listen to and<lb />consider carefully all sides<lb />and decide cases according to<lb />the law. In<lb />1998, Hunter was appointed<lb />to the NC Court of Appeals<lb />by Gov. <p>The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan<lb /><lb />National Representative of The Honorable<lb />Elijah Muhammad and the Nation of Islam<lb /><lb />Exclusive To The Minority Voice Newspaper<lb />_ From Bro. Robert Muhammad,<lb />Mosque #79 Greenville, NC<lb /><lb />In the Name of Allah, The<lb />Beneficient, The Merciful<lb /><lb />September 11, 2006<lb /><lb />To All Laboreres and Believers of<lb />the Nation of Islam and Supporters,<lb /><lb />I think it is proper that you are<lb />made aware of my health<lb />condition. As you know,<lb /><lb />I have been suffering from the<lb />after-effects of an extremely high<lb />dose of<lb /><lb />radiated seed implantation that<lb />indeed killed the cancer cells that<lb />had broken<lb /><lb />the prostate capsule, but over time,<lb />these seeds have done severe<lb />internal damage.<lb /><lb />I am more than fortunate. I am<lb />blessed by Allah (God) to be alive.<lb /><lb />Last year, 2005, five years after a<lb /><lb />major operation in November 2000, I had a<lb /><lb />colonscopy to examine the colon to make sure that no other complications<lb />had risen. At that time, the probe did not detect any significant change in.the<lb />condition of my colon, but early in 2006, I began to have pain in the anal area,<lb />similar to the pain that I had in 1998-1999, °<lb /><lb />On my trip to Cuba to learn of disaster management preparedness, I Spent most<lb /><lb />of my time there being examined and tested by some of the finest doctors in<lb /><lb />Cuba. They discovered an ulcer in the anal area, similar to the ulcer that I had<lb /><lb />in 1998 - 1999 that almost caused the loss of my life. The doctors in Cuba felt<lb /><lb />that my health at that time was near perfect, except for that ulcer; but from that<lb /><lb />time, March 2006, I have been steadily fighting serious pain and infection. In the last<lb />month, I had lost nearly 15 Ibs. and over the last six weeks, I have lost over 20 lbs. So,<lb />I decided to go back to the hospital at Howard University to have my original doctors<lb />assess my condition. "<lb /><lb />I was throughly dehydrated, anemic, and low in protein, albumen, and iron. Although<lb /><lb />I have some the finest cooks who always prepare the finest meals for me, I was in a seriously<lb />nutritionally depleted state, because the pain that I was in took away my appetite. The Howard<lb />University doctors discovered serious infection and inflammation, which is presently<lb /><lb />being treated, and now I am forced to do what is necessary to restore myself nutritionally.<lb />Otherwise, my present condition could be life threatening. .<lb /><lb />Therefore, in this period of testing, I am postponing indefinitely all engagements,<lb />meetings, and appointments so that I can concentrate, with Allah?s (God?s) Help,<lb />to bring myself back to a state where I maybe able to continue to serve the rise of our people.<lb />The Honorable Elijah Muhammad in the days of His serious illness said, o?My illness is a test<lb />for those around me? This is a test, not only for me, but it is a test for the members of the<lb />Nation of Islam, as well.<lb /><lb />%<lb />In this period of testing, you can prove to the world that the Nationa of Islam is more<lb />than the charisma, eloquence, and personality of Louis Farrakhan. In this period<lb />of testing, you can prove that the Nation of Islam is under-girded by an idea that represents<lb />the Kingdom of God on Earth, an Idea that can never be uprooted, never be destroyed<lb />and can only increase its power, effect, and influence over the hearts and minds of the people<lb />of the Earth. In this period of testing, you can prove that the Nation of Islam, a body of people<lb />submitting to the Will of Allah (God), is more than the physical presence of any individual,<lb />and that it will live long after I and we have gone, because it is rooted in an idea that comes<lb />directly from Allah (God) Himself.<lb /><lb />I will be available to give guidance in any major situation that may arise, but I would prefer that<lb />the Executive Board of the Nation of Islam help to solve the problems of the Nation, without<lb />asking me. Then, at this time of testing, it will show me that you are ready to move beyond<lb />personality to live and function on the principles that make personalities attractive.<lb /><lb />In closing, Commandante Fidel Castro had a very serious operation and he relinquished power<lb />to his brother and all thosee who were trained to carry on in his absence. While many rejoiced?<lb />believing and thinking that, if Fidel Castro and the Cuban Revolution expired, they<lb /><lb />could move Cuba and the Revolution in a new direction? his absence from the helm only<lb />proved that Cuba will not fall apart over the absence or passing of their illustrious leader.<lb /><lb />Such a challenge is before us. I accept the challenge to work as hard as I can to come back to a<lb />nutritionally strong and healthly body, as much as can be expected given my overall condition,<lb />so that I can continue to serve because I do not believe that my earthly work is done.<lb /><lb />I know that you (the Believers) will accept the challenge to move our Nation forward, being<lb />ever watchful for any smart, crooked deceiver and hypocrite who would create confusion<lb /><lb />over my present conditon. ,<lb /><lb />Best wishes to all for our success. I pray that Allah (God) will bring me before you<lb />again soon.<lb /><lb />1 Am Your Brother and Servant,<lb /><lb />The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan<lb />Servant to the Lost-Found<lb />Nation of Islam in the West<lb /><lb />IMAGINE THE MINORITY VOICE NEWSPAER DELIVERED<lb />RIGHT TO YOU DOOR<lb />For Details call:<lb />| Michael Adams (252) 757-0425<lb /><lb />Minority Voice Oct20 - Oct 30,2006 p7<lb /><lb />7) SP?) 2)?<lb />/. ff)<lb /><lb />7} f Lf ff f 0g<lb />y ths Fs fi ; f ,; 4 i, f:<lb />ICE SEW SPAPER IN<lb /><lb />SSO IN 7<lb /><lb />be yy<lb />SCTE POY PY A<lb />pee engng<lb />SKIOINCE MENTS.<lb />tii LY,<lb />ij ) Y A? ¢<lb /><lb />NATY 3<lb />Yy py, l ,<lb /><lb />There is No Substitute " |<lb />tor Experience.<lb /><lb />Judge Joe Blick brings 25 years of legal experience and 23 years of service to our community.
