<p>Jobs through exports: oe<lb /><lb />BY CONGRESSWOMAN<lb />EVA M. CLAYTON<lb />With the basketball playoffs<lb />over, you might think that Peter<lb /><lb />Hextler of the CUI Corporation in.<lb /><lb />Wilmington will be turning his<lb />attention to baseball now. But<lb />Hextler, and many of his 65 em-<lb />ployees are more concerned about<lb />how things are going in Australia,<lb />Japan and England, because that Ts<lb />where an increasing amount of<lb />CUI Ts goods are going.<lb /><lb />That wasn Tt the case five years<lb />ago. But since CUI started devel-<lb />oping markets overseas, foreign<lb />sales have grown to 5 percent of<lb />CUI revenues.<lb /><lb />CUlisn Tt unique. In the 1st Con-<lb />gressional District alone there are<lb />more than 450 companies that<lb />manufacture goods for foreign<lb />markets "and nearly two thirds<lb />employ less than 100 people. Even<lb />more impressive, these companies<lb />have seen a growth in exports that<lb />has outstripped the growth rates<lb />of exports for North Carolina and<lb /><lb />tt<lb />Ss<lb /><lb />Eastern North Carolina ships more<lb /><lb />than $1.3 billion of goods overseas.<lb /><lb />each year.<lb /><lb />More and more, the economic<lb />well-being of our region depends<lb />on our ability to sell our products<lb />to other countries. Clearly our abil-<lb />ity to generate good jobs in the<lb /><lb />future is tied to exports and the.<lb /><lb />ability of local companies, small<lb />and large, to exploit opportunities<lb />in other countries.<lb /><lb />That Ts why I am hosting a oJobs<lb />Through Exports ? hearing in<lb />Wilmington on June 23 that will<lb />investigate ways that federal and<lb />state agencies can help local com-<lb />panies gain access to foreign mar-<lb />kets. As a member of the House<lb />Small Business Committee and an<lb />appointee to the President Ts Ex-<lb />port Council, Ihave learned agreat<lb />deal about the relationship be-<lb />tween exports and better jobs and<lb />one of my top priorities is to foster<lb />jobcreation by increasing the num-<lb />ber of local businesses to market<lb /><lb />Salute To<lb /><lb />CADE INSURANCE AGENCY<lb /><lb />720 DICKINSON AVE.<lb /><lb />GREENVILLE, N.C.<lb /><lb />752-2862<lb /><lb />F.P. Our<lb />best alternative is to emphasize<lb />growth in the private sector.<lb /><lb />Eastern North Carolina Ts<lb />unique combination of harbors at<lb />Wilmington and Morehead City,<lb />a strong interstate system, and a<lb />state of the art air shipping facil-<lb />ity at the proposed Global<lb />Transpark in Kinston makes our<lb />area particularly well-suited to<lb />lead an export boom. I Tve been<lb />working with community leaders<lb />to have the proposed Global<lb />Transpark designated a Free<lb />Trade Zone, which would make it<lb />a hub for international shipping.<lb />If we are successful, the seafood<lb />caught offour shores in the morn-<lb />ing could be someone Ts dinner in<lb />Japan the next day.<lb /><lb />But businesses, large andsmall,<lb />usually face three challenges when<lb />they begin to look to other lands:<lb />gaining access to the capital<lb />needed to open new product lines<lb />or modify existing ones for over-<lb />seas consumer, attaining techni-<lb />cal training vital to dealing with<lb />other governments, and finding<lb />theinformation about regulations,<lb />American and foreign, and trade<lb /><lb />The economic future of North Carolina lies overseas<lb /><lb />~ the nation as a whole. All in all,<lb /><lb />practices in other countries.<lb /><lb />On Friday, a panel of Congress<lb />persons will hear from companies<lb />that have successful gained ex-<lb />port markets "Perdue chickens,<lb /><lb />DuPont and Nations Bank and .<lb /><lb />others "to find out what Govern-<lb />ment could do, and shouldn Tt do,<lb />to help businesses develop rela-<lb />tions overseas. It is my hope that<lb />their experiences will help those<lb />of us in government determine<lb />the best way to help the private<lb />sector create more export-related<lb />jobs.<lb /><lb />We'll also begin helping local<lb />business owners by hosting a oJob<lb />Through Exports ? expo in the af-<lb />ternoon. At the expo, representa-<lb />tives of state and federal agencies<lb />will be available to provide infor-<lb />mation and explain to business<lb />owners what needs to be done in<lb />order for them to begin exporting.<lb />It will be a first step in helping<lb />local businesses expand their op-<lb />erations.<lb /><lb />Eastern North Carolina has al-<lb /><lb />ready proven itself to be a leader<lb />in developing new markets. It is not easy for us to change.<lb />But it is possible. And this capac-<lb />ity is our glory as human beings.<lb /><lb />2. The only way to assure being<lb />loved is to be a person worthy of<lb />love.<lb /><lb />3. If you desire greater wisdom,<lb />you can find it inside you.<lb /><lb />4. Integrity is never painless.<lb /><lb />5. We are incapable of loving<lb />another unless we love ourselves.<lb /><lb />6. True listening is love in ac-<lb />tion.<lb /><lb />7. It is through love that elevate<lb />ourselves. And it is through our<lb />love for others that we assist oth-<lb />ers to elevate themselves.<lb /><lb />8. Itis our sense of commitment<lb />after the wedding that makes pos-<lb />sible the transition from falling in<lb />love to genuine love. And it is our<lb />commitment after conception that<lb />transforms us from biological into<lb />psychologieal parents.<lb /><lb />9. Evangelist<lb />George A. Hawkins is a man with<lb />a vision. Until the year 1991, Tab-<lb />ernacle Center Church of Deliver-<lb />ance, Inc., was a only a vision in-<lb />grained deep in the heart of Evan-<lb />gelist Hawkins by God. Today, that<lb />vision has become a reality in full<lb />bloom. God, in His greatness and<lb />by His omnipotent power, has<lb />brought this vision into fruition.<lb />Tabernacle Center Church of De-<lb />liverance opened its doors at 404<lb />Evans Street (Mall) in Greenville<lb />for their first service on Apmil 21,<lb />1991, with only seven (7) members<lb />and a host of visitors. praises were<lb />given to the Lord Jesus Christ for<lb />the things He had done. Taber-<lb />nacle received an Independent<lb />Chartered Church status with the<lb />State of North Carolina, and the<lb />County of Pitt in April of 1991. A<lb />few months later, it was incorpo-<lb />rated. However, the most impor-<lb />tant status was given by our Heav-<lb />enly Father at the time the vision<lb />was placed on the heart of Pastor<lb />Hawkins, and that is the status of<lb /><lb />VOICE CE - WEEK OF JUNE 30 - JULY 7, 1995<lb /><lb />Tabernacle Center of Deliverance<lb />No longer a vision... . Now a Reality!"<lb /><lb /> oSoul Winning ?.<lb /><lb />When the Church began, some<lb />specific requirements were given<lb />the body of Christ. They are: (1) to<lb />bring God Ts people back to the be-<lb />ginning; C2) to bring the people of<lb />God out of religion and into a rela-<lb />tionship with God; and, (3) to bring<lb />the people of God into the matu-<lb />rity of God Ts word. We are prayer-<lb />fully striving hard to do the work<lb />of the Lord according to the charge<lb />given us. The Lord has blessed the<lb />work of our hands as His words<lb />proclaimed He would do. The Lord<lb />prompted Pastor Hawkins to ex-<lb />pand the ministry. With many<lb />souls coming to Christ, the minis-<lb />try branching out in many direc-<lb />tions,, and the present place of<lb />worship growing more crowded<lb />daily, it was time to make a move...<lb />we needed a larger place. On Au-<lb />gust 4, 1993,, the wheels were put<lb />in motion.<lb /><lb />The Lord blessed us to purchase<lb />the property at the corners of<lb />Dickinson Avenue and 14th and<lb />Chestnut Streets...the future site<lb />of our new sanctuary. We were<lb />told we could not afford the prop-<lb />erty because it was priced at<lb />$155,000.00 and we were just a<lb /><lb />groupof oNOBODIES ?. Ourchurch<lb />is made up of former drug addicts,<lb />drug pushers, welfare victims,<lb />homosexuals, alcoholics, depressed<lb />and homeless people. There were<lb />even a few who were saved but<lb />still walking the streets of DE-<lb />FEAT, not realizing they were not<lb />experiencing the FULLNESS ofa<lb />Christian life. Today, these same<lb />people are saved, walking in the<lb />light of God Ts word, and know how<lb />to overcome the trials of life while<lb />praising the Lord Jesus Christ.<lb />The Lord said in His word that He<lb />hath chosen the foolish things of<lb />the world to confound the wise. To<lb />the world it is foolish for a group of<lb /> oNOBODIES ? (most of them with-<lb />out jobs when they came into the<lb />ministry) to ever think of purchas-<lb />ing anything that cost more than<lb />$1.00. It would be foolish if the<lb />Lord had not told us that oExcept<lb />the Lord build the house, they<lb />labour in vain that build it: except<lb />the Lord keep the city, the watch-<lb />man waketh but in vain. PSALMS<lb />127:1<lb /><lb />The first step in coming out of<lb />religion into a real relationship<lb />with God is learning to rely totally<lb />on God by studying His word and<lb /><lb />HAWK OKS c<lb /><lb />Naan<lb /><lb />spending quality time in prayer<lb />and fasting before the Lord. Be-<lb />cause of these promises, we refuse<lb />to be defeated... for God is the<lb />lefter R.<lb /><lb />Had we listened to all the nega-<lb />tive comments and not sought the<lb />Lord for directions, we would never<lb />have made a step nor raised a<lb />finger to go beyond 404 Evans<lb />Street. We have learned to give<lb />thanks to the Lord Jesus Christ<lb />for ALL things, as His words com-<lb />mand us to. Tabernacle Center<lb />Church of Deliverance was estab-<lb />lished on the word of God and will<lb />continue to grow by the word be-<lb />cause we know that the minute we<lb />take down or try to do it our way<lb />and by our own strength we will<lb />surely fall. As soul winners for<lb />Christ, our first priority is to have<lb />Jesus at the center of our life. The<lb />hand of God has worked many<lb />miracles in Tabernacle.... souls<lb />have been saved, bodies have been<lb />healed, habits have been broken,<lb />homes have been restored, unem-<lb />ployed persons have received jobs,<lb />homeless have found homes, and<lb />many other hearts T desires have<lb />been realized. For all these bless-<lb />ings and more, we give ALL the<lb /><lb />glory and honor to the Lord.<lb /><lb />The Lord has blessed us with a<lb />Prison Ministry, a Street Minis-<lb />try, an Outreach Ministry for the<lb />sick, suffering and dying, and those<lb />persons who are lonely and need<lb />someone to talk to or just listen.<lb />We have a ministry that reaches<lb />out to the total man "no matter<lb />what the situation or problem<lb />might be. We also havea Children Ts<lb />Ministry... teaching them they<lb />ways of Christ. God uses ordinary<lb />people like us who come from all<lb />walks of life. Because we are new<lb />creatures in Christ, we can handle<lb />any situation or problem that<lb />might arise because we have the<lb />problem solver, JESUS CHRIST,<lb />guiding us.<lb /><lb />Ithas been a year and ten months<lb />since the second phase of the vi-<lb />sion unfolded and now we are pre-<lb />paring to go into phase three of the<lb />vision. On Saturday, June 3, 1995,<lb />we held our ground-breaking cer-<lb />emony marking the beginning of<lb />construction for our new edifice at<lb />the corner of Dickinson Avenue<lb />and 14th Streets, dedicating tothe<lb />Lord the land for the building of<lb />our new sanctuary which will have<lb />a seating capacity of 500. We were<lb /><lb />honored with the presence of such<lb />notables as the Honorable Nancy<lb />Jenkins, Mayor of the City of<lb />Greenville, City Councilwoman<lb />Mildred Council, Mr. Jim Rouse,<lb />President of WOOW Radio and<lb />the ~M T Voice Newspaper, Mr. Wil-<lb />liam Clark, WOOW Radio Person-<lb />ality, Prophet and Mrs. Raymond<lb />Solomon of Trinidad. There were<lb />many other friends and well-wish-<lb />ers with us on this momentous<lb />occasion. The weather was pour-<lb />ing rain, but our spirits could not<lb />be dampened on this day. Each of<lb />us had sunshine in our very souls.<lb />During the past four years, the<lb />Lord has truly shown us who Heis<lb />in the power of His ressurection.<lb />He has renewed our minds from<lb />thinking oI can Tt do anything ? to<lb />knowing oI can do all things<lb />through Christ which<lb />strengtheneth me ? PHILIPPIANS<lb />4:13. This scripture tells us that<lb />the Lord has made every provision<lb />necessary for us andis continually<lb />strengthening us daily in every<lb />area of our lives while encourag-<lb />ing us to stand firm on the word of<lb />God...in spite of. It was<lb />an extraordinary event: over 110<lb />delegates, representing 24 states,<lb />came together to mark the first<lb />year of the party Ts existence and<lb />make preparations for the 1996<lb />presidential election.<lb /><lb />The Patriot Party was founded<lb />one year ago in Arlington, Vir-<lb />, ginia by an unlikely coming to-<lb />gether of a network of white activ-<lb />ists newly politicized by Ross<lb />Perot Ts 1992 presidential cam-<lb />paign, and me and many of my<lb />colleagues and followers from the<lb />African American community. At<lb />that original meeting, a set of prin-<lb />ciples were hammered out which<lb />featured democratic restructuring,<lb />government accountability and fis-<lb />cal responsibility as the party Ts<lb />goals.<lb /><lb />In the year since its founding,<lb />the Patriot Party has flourished.<lb />And it has attracted some of the<lb />most inspiring and energetic new<lb />independent Black leaders in the<lb />country. Joining me as delegates<lb />on the floor of the convention were:<lb />Kelvin Alexander and Adolph<lb />Montgomery, both leaders of the<lb />Black police of ficers association in<lb />New York City, the Guardians;<lb />Wayne Griffin and Charles<lb />Bunche, who had run for governor<lb />and lieutenant governor, respec-<lb />tively, of South Carolina on the<lb />Patriot Party-affiliated line last<lb />November; Yvonne Braime from<lb />Newark, New Jersey; Raquel<lb />Holmes from Boston, Massachu-<lb />setts; Andrew Garnett from Au-<lb />gusta, Georgia; Nate Roberson,<lb />who was elected Greene County<lb />Commissioner in Alabama on the<lb />Patriot line; David Cherry from<lb />Chicago, who had participated in<lb />the African American Summit;<lb />Queenie Lawrence from Brooklyn,<lb /><lb />FROM THE ~M T VOICE ARCHIVES. .<lb /><lb />. Sisters Priscilla<lb /><lb />Pippin and mother Rosa (Big Mama) Weaver stop for a few<lb /><lb />minutes for our camera.<lb /><lb />Photo: Jim Rouse<lb /><lb />|<lb /><lb />New York; Georgianna Williams<lb />from Los Angeles, California;<lb />Mamie Moore from Richmond,<lb />Virginia; and, of course, the Pa-<lb />triot Party Ts national secretary,<lb />Dr. Jessie Fields.<lb /><lb />What shocks many political<lb />pundits about this new party, and<lb />my effort to build it in the Black<lb />community, is that it has few of<lb />the trappings traditionally asso-<lb />ciated with Black political partici-<lb />pation. Many people, including our<lb />elected officials, believe that the<lb />Black community belongs in the<lb />kind of political setting where tra-<lb />ditional Black issues "increased<lb />social service benefits, affirma-<lb />tive action, education "would be<lb />the centerpiece of a political<lb />agenda. However, close to60 years<lb />of participation in the political<lb />system "largely through the<lb />Democratic Party " and largely<lb />oriented toward such so-called<lb /> oBlack ? issues, has left the Black<lb />community politically and eco-<lb />nomically impoverished.<lb /><lb />It is very easy to walk into the<lb />Black community and give a<lb />ringingly militant speech about<lb />housing or health care. The Demo-<lb />crats do it every day of the week.<lb />It is nothing less than a political<lb />tragedy that the Black commu-<lb />nity has been fooled over and over<lb />again by such political ploys. The<lb />fact of the matter is that the pri-<lb />mary beneficiary of Big Govern-<lb />ment spending in the Black com-<lb />munity is not Black people. The<lb />primary beneficiary of Big Gov-<lb />ernment spending in the Black<lb />community is the Democratic<lb />Party, which uses those programs<lb />as political patronage mills in or<lb />der to keep themselves in power,<lb />while the Black community con-<lb />tinues to suffer. I will not partici-<lb />pate in deluding the Black com-<lb />munity the way the Democrats<lb />do. We have worked extremely<lb />hard to build the Patnot Party "<lb />which is a new American partner-<lb />ship "along very non-traditional<lb />lines. We spent the bulk of the<lb />convention "into the late hours of<lb />the night "dialoguing and voting<lb />on platform issues. This dialogue<lb />was very intense because it was<lb />really, at root, about what kind of<lb />party we would be; about whether<lb />the Patriot Party is going to be a<lb />party that adopts various plat-<lb />form planks in order to appeal to<lb /><lb />(Continued on page 4)<lb /><lb />Interview with Judge James E. Martin<lb /><lb />By: M'BuluRouse<lb />(Allegations that he has violated<lb />the judicial system by treating<lb />people with leancy and not going<lb />by the book.)<lb /><lb />On May 17, 1995, I was able to<lb />have an interview with Judge<lb />James E. Martin and discuss with<lb />him about being censored for a<lb />second time. The citizens of the<lb />judicial district of Pitt County feel<lb />as though Judge Martin should<lb />step down due to him so-called<lb />interferon in a case concerning<lb />some people that he knew. When<lb />you are or shall I say, have been a<lb />judge for - 15 years of your life, and<lb />have seen every court case come<lb />through the judicial system. then<lb />sometimes you tend to havea heart<lb />or sometimes may even see some-<lb />one that you may know or have<lb />known, or in many cases know<lb />their parents. Now, I ask you the<lb />community.... if you were a dis-<lb />trict court judge and have been<lb />majority of your life. how would<lb />you go about treating the public or<lb />those that come into your court-<lb />room, Would you let your job, get<lb />you to the point that you would not<lb />have a heart or compassion for<lb />those that no absolutely nothing<lb />about the judicial system and how<lb />it works.... especially to blacks. I<lb />am sure that a lot of you read the<lb />article recently published about<lb />Judge James FE. Martin. This ar-<lb />ticle is clearly to state a matter of<lb />opinion. I am a citizen of Pitt<lb />County and have been for about<lb />two years now, and being a citizen<lb />a andian African-American here in<lb /><lb />Pitt County, there are a lot of<lb />those that really don Tt give adamn<lb />about our people and how we go<lb />about treating our race. In my<lb />eyes, Judge James E. Martin, does<lb />not show to me, that he doesn Tt<lb />care. [have witnessed Judge Mar-<lb />tin on several occasions in the<lb />court room, and he clearly to me<lb />shows a man that cares and cares<lb />a great deal about people and how<lb />the judicial system treats every-<lb />one. Now I understand that ac-<lb />cording to the Daily Reflector,<lb />Judge Martin does not go by the<lb />book and that when it comes to a<lb />particular case, you are not sup-<lb />posed to discuss the case outside<lb />the courtroom, but someone please<lb />tell me,...Is it that a judge is not<lb />supposed to have any feelings<lb />what so ever about anything when<lb />it comes to that courtroom.<lb /><lb />Judge James E. Martin is a<lb />judge that I truly admire and re-<lb />spect and believe that he does<lb />care and cares for our people. Not<lb />just our people, but for everyone.<lb />There is no law in the world that<lb />states that no matter where you<lb />are in thejudicial system you can Tt<lb />have compassion and sympathy.<lb />We understand that you have to<lb />do your job, but you can still have<lb />compassion. Not saying that you<lb />can Tt do your job, but we are all<lb />humans and you can Tt live in this<lb />world today, with everything that<lb />is going on and not have some<lb />type of feelings for the community<lb />or shall I say for those that come<lb />into the courtroom.<lb /><lb />Judge James E, Martin clearly<lb /><lb />tome ig aman toatieiss andlikes<lb /><lb />for people to know and understand<lb />the judicial system, so that you<lb />won't get caught up in the system<lb />repeatedly.<lb /><lb />The citizens of the judicial dis-<lb />trict have their opinions and have<lb />every right in the world to voice<lb />them, but don Tt knock a man for<lb />being human. I Tve seen some of the<lb />judges here in Pitt County act or<lb />show that they just don Tt give a<lb />damn about what happens to you,<lb />but what are we supposed to do<lb />when there is someone that does<lb />care and has compassion for those<lb />no nothing about the judicial sys-<lb />tem.<lb /><lb />We need to stop having so much<lb />negativity and start having some<lb />compassion for the general public.<lb /><lb />KKK III III IIIA II III II III III g<lb /><lb />BROTHER JAMES HILL (L) and Brother John Parker (R)<lb /><lb />are really struttin T their stuff these days!!!
