A story<lb />that must be taken seriously by<lb />the governments of every nation<lb />in the world because there may<lb />not be many humans left to<lb />govern by the turn ofthe century,<lb />or shortly thereafter. A story so<lb />bizarre, and sinister that, if it<lb />were not for the fact that it is all<lb />true, it would make a great sci-<lb />ence fiction thriller. .<lb /><lb />The story begins in 1983 with<lb />Dr. Robert B. Strecker, M.D.,<lb />Ph.D. Dr. Strecker practices in-<lb />ternal medicine and gastroen-<lb />terology in Los Angeles. He is a<lb />trained pathologist and also<lb />holds a Ph. D. in pharmacology.<lb />Dr. Strecker andhis brother, ted,<lb />and attorney, were preparing a<lb />proposal for a health mainte-<lb />nance organization (HMO) for<lb />Security Pacific bank of Califor-<lb />nia. they needed to know the<lb />long-term financial effects of in-<lb />suring and treating AIDS pa-<lb />tients. In as much as this infor-<lb />mation was not readily available<lb />in 1983, both brothers began<lb />| researching the medical .litera-<lb />turé to learn what they could<lb /><lb />about this relatively new disease.<lb />The information they uncovered<lb /><lb />right from the beginning was so<lb />startling to them, so hard to be-<lb />lieve, that it would dramatically<lb />alter both their lives and lead<lb />them on a five year quest culmi-<lb />nating with the creation of oThe<lb />Strecker Memorandum, ? the<lb />most controversial video tape of<lb />our time, anda remarkable set of<lb /><lb />youth who are affected and who<lb /><lb />are being destroyed because of *<lb /><lb />homelessness, the drug<lb />epidemic, illiteracy and poverty<lb />in our communities. | am run-<lb />ning this year because it is im-<lb />portant to support the cam-<lb />paign for youth and and demo-<lb />cracy if we want to save our<lb />youth, ? said Lorraine Stevens,<lb />a NAP candidate for Congress.<lb />Stevens, who is running<lb />against Ed Townes<lb /><lb />Appearing in Greenville thi<lb /><lb />(D-Brooklyn), called him a<lb /> otired old Democrat T who<lb /><lb />happened to people like<lb />Adam Abdul Hakeem (aka<lb />Larry Davis), Tawana Brawley,<lb /><lb />a" Yusuf Hawkins or othe injus-<lb />_ tice that is being done against<lb /><lb />says she wants to<lb />give the people in the 11th Con-<lb />gressional District another<lb /><lb />running for State Senate in the<lb />22nd Sentorial District, helping<lb /><lb />ee ee<lb /><lb />choice besides Townes. .<lb />For Saudia Young, who is .<lb /><lb />documents called ~The Bio-attack<lb />Alert. ?<lb /><lb />Right there in the medical lit-<lb />erature for anyone to read for<lb />themselves was, basically, proof<lb />that the AIDS virus and<lb />pandemic was actually PRE-<lb />DICTED years ago by a world-<lb />famous virologist, among others.<lb />They found that top scientists<lb />writing in the Bulletin of the<lb />World Health Organization were<lb />actually REQUESTING that<lb />AIDS-like viruses be created to<lb />study the effects on humans. In<lb />fact, the Streckers unearthed<lb />thousands of documents all sup-<lb />porting the man-made origin of<lb />AIDS. Meanwhile, the govern-<lb />ment was telling everyone that a<lb />green monkey in Africa bit some<lb />native and started AIDS. As their<lb />research continued it became<lb />obvious from the documentation<lb />that the virus itself was not only<lb />created as requested, but actually<lb />DEPLOYED, and now threatens<lb />the existence of mankind because<lb />it does what it was designed to<lb />do: cause cancer in humansviaa<lb />contagious virus. Eventually the<lb />Streckers came to realize every-<lb /><lb />thing the government, the so-: .»<lb /><lb />called AIDS experts, and the me-<lb /><lb />dia were telling the public was<lb />not only misleading, but out and<lb /><lb />out lies. The truthof the matter<lb />is AIDS is a man-made disease;<lb />AIDS is not a homosexual dis-<lb />ease; AIDS is not a venereal dis-<lb />ease; AIDS can be carried by<lb />mosquitos; Condoms will not<lb />prevent AIDS; There are at least<lb />six different AIDS viruses loose<lb />in the world; There will never be<lb /><lb />Network, emphasized the way<lb />that they are shaping the enter-<lb />tainment industry; especially in<lb />music.<lb /><lb />While youth and democracy<lb />wete the central themes of the<lb />day, economic empowerment<lb />and the need for change, issues<lb />also affecting the African-A-<lb />merican community, were also<lb /><lb />addressed.<lb /><lb />Emest Forster, a passionate<lb />speaker, spoke of life in Flat-<lb /><lb />ay, August 11 at the<lb /><lb />Roxy Theatre, internationally known Dr. Lenora Fulani.<lb />| Doors open at 7:00 p.m. Dr. Fulani is a present candidate<lb />for Governor of the state of New York and a community<lb />activist for all oppress people in America. This progress,<lb />put into historical perspective, is<lb />no less than remarkable. Black<lb />people were brought to America<lb />in chains, excluded from the pro-<lb />tections of our Constitution, then<lb />freed from the degradation of<lb />slavery only to face lynchings<lb />and suffer the abuses, insults,<lb />and denials of oJim Crow ? laws.<lb />Despite all this, in the space ofa<lb />century and a quarter, we have<lb />gone further than virtually ev-<lb />ery other oppressed racial group<lb />in history. If you totaled black<lb />earnings, and counted them as if<lb />blacks were a separate nation,<lb />it'd be the world Ts 12th richest.<lb />The chief executives of some of<lb />the world Ts greatest cities and<lb />some of the world Ts most famous<lb />personalities are black. Blacks<lb />have made significant contribu-<lb />tions to culture and the arts.<lb />Neither slave nor slaveowner<lb />would ever have dreamed that<lb />these achievements were pos-<lb />sible. This speaks well, not only<lb />of the courage and substance of a<lb />people, but also of the moral<lb />character of our nation.<lb /><lb />During times of open hos-<lb />tility, there was a need for group<lb />solidarity in the face of racist<lb />attacks on black elected or ap-<lb />pointed officials. There may have<lb />been aneed for solidarity, even if<lb />the official was caught or sus-<lb /><lb />Uncontested<lb /><lb />ROBERT L. There may<lb />have been a need for blacks to<lb />avoid open criticism of a black<lb />politician and keep it in the<lb /> ofamily ? rather than risk thetrap<lb />of divide and conquer. Today, it Ts<lb />a different ball game; behavior<lb />that may once have been impor-<lb />tant for survival is now mis-<lb />guided, undeserved loyalty.<lb /><lb />Let Ts look at it. Rep. Gus<lb />Savage, D-Ill., was accused of<lb />pressing a Peace Corps volun-<lb />teer for sexual favors; James<lb />Usery, Atlantic City Ts ex-mayor,<lb />was accused of abusing his of-<lb />fice, including selling favors;<lb />Mayor Marion Barry of Wash-<lb />ington, D.C., is standing trial on<lb />drug charges. In each case, the<lb />official claimed innocence,<lb />blaming the charges on white<lb />racism. Naturally, many blacks<lb />rallied to the support of these<lb />officials.<lb /><lb />Any black person, who's<lb />seen the sordid videotapes of<lb />Barry doing drugs at<lb />Washington Ts Vista Hotel, and<lb />read the accounts of witnesses<lb />testifying that Tthey sold or did<lb />drugs with the mayor, must feel<lb />a sense of deep betrayal. A program intended to keep<lb />black people in a constant state<lb />of grievance and to instill feel-<lb />ings of ~victimization. That,<lb />coupled with the ability to gener-<lb />ate white feelings of guilt, means<lb />power, prestige, and federal<lb />corporate grants to the black<lb />elite. This is paternalism and<lb />defeatism at best "a significant<lb />departure from, and betrayal of,<lb />the sacrifices and values of our<lb />ancestors.<lb /><lb />In my youth, we were ad-<lb />monished by our elders: oBe a<lb />credit to your race, ? and oYou<lb />have to be better than the white<lb />man. ? Whether that advice was<lb />fair or not is one thing, but it<lb />does show more character and<lb />strength than today Ts: oThey owe<lb />us, ? and relationships based on<lb />white guilt.<lb /><lb />In the total scheme of<lb />things, what happens to Barry is<lb />trivial. The larger issue is<lb />whether black people will over-<lb />look accountability, egregious<lb />behavior, and betrayal in the<lb />name of racial solidarity, or rec-<lb />ognize that black demagoguery<lb />is just as pernicious as white<lb />demagoguery. <p>THE ~M T VOICE " WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 8 - AUGUST 16, 1990-5<lb /><lb />Hi, I Tm your old friend Charles C. Watts, Jr. in the past<lb />I Tve always helped you with your furniture needs. Now<lb /><lb />As the keynote speaker at the economic forum<lb />of the Southern Christian Leadership<lb />Conference's (SCLC) annual convention in Rich-<lb />mond, Va. on Aug. 8, I will have the opportunity<lb />to preach to the nation Ts leading black preachers.<lb /><lb />I'm going to begin by telling them how much<lb /><lb />money NER r nconsmemnnenem<lb />blacks have :<lb /><lb />($350 billion<lb />this year,<lb />which is<lb />equivalent<lb />to the GNP<lb />of the ninth<lb />richest na-<lb />tion in the<lb />world) and how much of our purchasing power we<lb />do not spend (about 95 percent) with another<lb />black person.<lb /><lb />But speaking before some of the country Ts best<lb />speakers and thinkers, I Tll need more than<lb />Statistics. So I'll ask them to siake a choice bet-<lb />ween the God of Scarcity and the God of Love:<lb /> ~Choose this day whoin ye shall serve. T<lb /><lb />The belief in sca:vity gets its power from fear,<lb />which in turn, becomes the essence of our lives<lb />and guarantees us unhappiness. Love, on the<lb />other hand, is the } sliness within ourselves rejoic-<lb />ing over and shariiy itself with the holiness in<lb />another. Happiness and love are synonymous.<lb />Fear and love are Gomplete opposites.<lb /><lb />Since God (love) is our only reality, the world of<lb />fear and scarcity (the opposite of love) is only an<lb />lusion. Therefore, if the inatertal condition of a<lb />people is to change, a spiritual change, arrived at<lb />through love and tuide:standing, must occur.<lb /><lb />You end a nightinare by simply waking up,<lb />don Tt you? You can also end an illusion by waking<lb />up " changing spiritually and simply realizing<lb />who you are, not becoming anyone else.<lb /><lb />Our last big breakthrough (change) in con-<lb />sciousness came with Rosa Parks and the idea of<lb /><lb />Tony<lb />Brown<lb />Comments<lb /><lb /> ocivil rights T T on Dee. 1, 1958. We knew we were<lb />no longer going to sit in the back of buses or be<lb />called ~ ~boy. T T But this movement (new con-<lb /><lb />Sciousness) is bogged down in 1990 in the ego<lb />world of politics ~ man Ts (aid vy oman Ts) futile il-<lb />lusion of not needing God.<lb /><lb />Ironically, the reason the tiack Community has<lb />not defined economic development as its primary<lb />problem is because ie black church is the<lb />backbone of the civil tights movement and,<lb />although there are exceptions, it has not focused<lb />on the relationship between spiritual well-being<lb />and economic determination the way it did on<lb /><lb />Consumer purchasing can be ~salvation T<lb /><lb />We are equivalent to the ninth largest country, money-wise.<lb /><lb />segregation as a form of evil.<lb /><lb /> ~ ~Most people consider life a battle, but it is not<lb />a battle, it is a game.<lb /><lb /> oIt is a game, however, which cannot be played<lb />successfully without the knowledge of spiritual<lb />law, and the Old and the New Testaments give the<lb />rules of the game with wonderful clearness. Jesus<lb />Christ taught that it was a great game of Giving<lb />and Receiving.<lb /><lb /> o* ~Whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also<lb />reap, T This means that whatever man sends out in<lb />word or deed, will return to him; what he gives, he<lb />will receive, T T writes Florence Scovel Schinn in<lb />**The Game of Life and How to Play It. ?<lb /><lb />However, instead of ~ ~playing the game T T and<lb />prospering, many of us are singing ~ ~You Can<lb />Have All the World, But Give Me Jesus. T T If it<lb />were God Ts plan that black people constitute one<lb />third of all Americans living below the poverty<lb />level, why then did He give us $350 billion this<lb />year? And why does He plan to give us $900<lb />billion by the year 2000, 10 years from now?<lb /><lb />God has done His part; He clearly loves us. But<lb />in our quest for freedom from poverty are we<lb />relating to this God (reality) of plenty?<lb /><lb />Every apple, every Mercedes car, every fur coat,<lb />every dollar bill or new home was put on this earth<lb />by God " not by white people. God (love/reality)<lb />is our source of supply,<lb /><lb />But if you believe in the high god of poverty, he<lb />will lavish it on you. If you want nothing, you will<lb />get plenty of it. That Ts not God. That Ts our ego<lb />(the devil in us) creating another illusion.<lb /><lb />It is certainly not God Ts Will. Jesus the Christ<lb />set forth a blend of economic and spiritual laws<lb />(Luke 4:16-32), which He learned from His<lb />Father, God the Creator, at the start of His<lb />ministry.<lb /><lb /> oPhysician, heal thyself, T T exclaims Jesus in<lb />Luke 4:23, instructing us to help ourselves. He<lb />then placed the responsibility for preaching this<lb />gospel in the hands of His followers in Acts 1:7, 8.<lb /><lb />Today, the fate of Black America is in the hands<lb />of Black Christian pastors and Muslim Imams.<lb />Every Sunday morning at 11 a.m., 21 million<lb />(two-thirds of all blacks) attend 65,000 black chur-<lb />ches. The Kingdom of God is literally and<lb />figuratively right in front of us.<lb /><lb />Since 1985, I Tve been explaining to church<lb />leaders that they (and the black community) are<lb />losing 95 percent of the consumer spending of<lb />their congregations each week. ~ ~God Ts Buy<lb />Freedom Plan T T " the redistribution of each<lb />church congregation Ts consumer purchasing<lb /><lb />Upward Bound in<lb />19th Year At Shaw<lb /><lb />Shaw University Ts 1990-1991<lb />Upward Bound program is in its<lb />19th year at Shaw University.<lb />The program, for students in<lb />grades 9 - 11, is currently in full-<lb />swing with 60 students, accord-<lb />ingto Keith Smith, the program Ts<lb />director.<lb /><lb />Upward Bound provides stu-<lb />dents who have a college poten-<lb />tial but who might not have<lb />considered going because of the<lb />costs, an intensive dose of en-<lb />couragement, tutoring and ca-<lb />reer guidance mixed with regu-<lb />lar classroom studies and edu-<lb />cational field trips. There is also<lb />time in the students T busy days<lb />for fun and games. the group will<lb />visit other colleges in the area<lb />since there is not requirement<lb />that they attend the college at<lb />which they are in the Upward<lb />Bound program.
