It concerns the ef-<lb />fects of a vow to swear off women<lb />and worldly pleasures taken by<lb />King Ferdinand of Navarre and<lb />three of his nobles,<lb /><lb />Their plan is upset and high-<lb />spirited frolics ensue when the<lb />Princess of France and her ladies<lb />appear on the scene. The result is<lb />humurous deceit, surreptitious<lb />delivery of love sonnets, music<lb />and dance. Among them<lb />were racism, unemployment, inferior<lb />educational opportunities, drugs, crime, as<lb />well as other negative influences.<lb /><lb />Those factors had had a devastating im-<lb />pact on the family, the once impregnable<lb />bastion of security and hope in the black<lb />community.<lb /><lb />The proportion of black children born<lb />out of wedlock had increased nearly 60% or<lb />almost three times the 1960 rate. The seeds<lb />for an ever growing cycle of poverty, once<lb /><lb />sown, had begun to grow to full bloom and<lb /><lb />promised to reap an 5 ginticeliie harvest<lb />within the country.<lb /><lb />This in itself was alarming and it called "<lb /><lb />for immediate action then, and it calls for<lb />concerted action now on the part of the<lb />African American community.<lb /><lb />Black family crisis was not one brought<lb />on by an intrinsic weakness in the body<lb />politic of African Americans, but by<lb />economic and political factors over which<lb />African Americans had little or no control.<lb /><lb />But, now, many of the conditions which<lb />led to breakdown in the black family have<lb />spilled over into white families as well.<lb /><lb />Fortunately, there are some positive signs<lb />that increasingly, all segments of society<lb />have recognized that unless resolved, poten-<lb />tially the breakdown of the family structure<lb />can be as deadly as a nuclear attack.<lb /><lb />There can be no question about it,<lb />America must find solutions to he problems<lb />which now involve families of every race.<lb />The solutions must be found soon.<lb /><lb />READ<lb />The ~MT Voice<lb /><lb />IMPORTANT<lb />NOTICE...<lb /><lb />Have You Missed<lb />Your Copy Of<lb />~~The ~mT VoiceT?T<lb /><lb />For You Today<lb /><lb />Monday through Friday.<lb /><lb />¢ Life and Health Benefits.<lb />¢ A Great Opportunity.<lb /><lb />We Have A Great Job<lb /><lb />At Anne's, we match super people like you with great full-<lb />time heavy industrial positions.
