Then he asked for a pro-<lb />gress report from each attending<lb />Chapter concerning their plans to<lb />help future goals become a<lb />reality.<lb /><lb />Persons from Trenton explain-<lb />ed that they had been concerned<lb />about roads and highways. .<lb />that this goal had been ac-<lb />complished and now they are<lb />working with some employment<lb />problems to improve human<lb />dignity. Garrett of Greenville defeated James H. Garrett appealed the decision, and the state<lb />board is scheduled to hear the case Friday at a meeting in Raleigh.<lb /><lb />The county boardTs. information check does not indicate whether people<lb />voted for Garrett or Dupree, but an attorney involved says the irregularity is<lb />probably glaring enough for the state board to order a new election. Neither<lb />candidate has filed a formal comp/aint regarding the error, but the state<lb /><lb />board may address the issue Friday.<lb /><lb />GarrettTs attorney, David F. Kirby of Raleigh, said he did not think the<lb />previous complaints filed by Dupree were significant enough to affect the out-<lb />come of the race, but the new finding that ineligible voters participated is<lb /><lb />significant.<lb /><lb />Taft being considered for<lb />committee chairmanship<lb /><lb />Senator Tom Taft, D-Pitt, is be-<lb />ing considered for one of the two<lb />top Senate appropriation com-<lb />mittee chairmanships according<lb />to a NEWS AND OBSERVER ar-<lb />ticle which appeared last week.<lb />The Lieutenant Governor serves<lb />as the President of the Senate and<lb />makes committee appointments.<lb />Senator Tony Rand, D-<lb />Cumberland, who is running for<lb />the StateTs No. 2 post, has said he<lb />is conidering Taft to chair either<lb />the Base Budge Committee or the<lb />Expansion Budget Committee.<lb /><lb />~~T knew that he has been con-<lb />sidering me for one of the top ap-<lb />propriation positions,TT said Taft,<lb />who declined to comment on his<lb />discussion with Rand.<lb /><lb />oItTs the most exciting thing to<lb />happen since ITve been in the<lb />Legislature because it means I<lb />would have a remarkable oppor-<lb />tunity to help my district and the<lb />State.<lb /><lb />o~TTm honored to even be con-<lb />sidered and pleased for my<lb />district.
