Newly elected mayor<lb /><lb />of Greenville and the first black to hold this position is shown with<lb /><lb />his lovely wife, Jean. Ed Carter was relaxing at the annual ball of<lb />the Daughters of ISIS last week at the Hilton Hotel. The new mayor<lb />had the opportunity to sing during the course of the night, ~~ITm strok-<lb /><lb />ing.?<lb /><lb />1. Avoid cholesterol"rich<lb />foods, eggs, red meats, fried<lb />foods and rich dairy products as<lb />whole milk, cream, cheese and<lb />butter, as well as foods high in<lb />saturated fat. Choose instead<lb />lean meats, skinless chicken and<lb />turkey, fish, low-fat dairy<lb />products.<lb /><lb />2. Three risks for heart attack<lb />persons: high blood pressure,<lb />high cholesterol and smoking.<lb />There are other risks like age and<lb />a family history of heart attacks,<lb />but you cannot change these. And<lb />if you are overweight, do not ex-<lb />ercise and live a high-stress life,<lb />you are at greater risk too.<lb /><lb />3. A blood pressure of 140/90 or<lb />more is generally considered to<lb />be too high. The higher your<lb />blood pressure, the greater your<lb />risk of heart disease or stroke. A<lb />better pressure would be 120/80.<lb />To reduce blood pressure: (a)<lb />bring your weight down to nor-<lb />mal; (b)decrease your sodium<lb />intake, not only table salt but in<lb />snacks and processed foods;<lb />(c)take prescribed medicine<lb />regularly. Many doctors also<lb />prescribe exercise and relaxation<lb />training to lower blood pressure.<lb /><lb />4.
