Throughout the day the<lb />students were presented with<lb />mentally: and physically chal-<lb />lenging obstacles that could only<lb />be solved if students worked<lb />together and communicated<lb />effectively. One student in<lb />the class, Caroline Bradshaw,<lb /><lb />UNABOMBER continued from 5<lb /><lb />writing and became suspicious.<lb />At the urging of his wife, David<lb /><lb />contacted the FBI to turn Ted 7<lb /><lb />in. <lb />11<lb /><lb />SEAN LABAR<lb />THE EAstT CAROLINIAN<lb /><lb />The ECU soccer team took<lb />the field on Sunday afternoon<lb />with high emotion and deter-<lb />mination. The goal was to<lb />claim. a key conference win<lb />against third place conference<lb />rival UTEP.<lb /><lb />The Pirates did just that.<lb /><lb />Despite the intense. wind<lb />swirling around Bunting field,<lb />the team remained composed<lb />and focused--the thought of<lb />a conference championship<lb />lingering in the back of their<lb />minds. They displayed out-<lb />standing team chemistry and<lb /><lb />claimed a 2-1 victory over the:<lb /><lb />visiting Miners.<lb /><lb />The defeat gives the Pirates<lb />three home wins in just under<lb />two weeks after beating con-<lb />ference visitors Tulsa and<lb />SMU before SundayTs match.<lb />ECU tied with second place<lb />~Colorado College on Friday,<lb />but SundayTs win gives the<lb />Pirates an 11-3-2 record for<lb />the season and they remain<lb />unbeaten in C-USA, with a<lb />record of 6-0-2.<lb /><lb /> I just have my eye on<lb />sliding that C-USA champi-<lb />onship ring on my finger,?<lb />said junior Jessica Swanson.<lb />ThatTs what keeps my drive<lb />and desire so high. We are so<lb />close as a team to achieving<lb /><lb />SundayTs game was a clear<lb />test for the Pirates, and their<lb />desire to win was evident. A<lb />first half goal by freshman<lb />Kimmy Cummings gave the<lb />Pirates an early lead but UTEP<lb />was able to tie it up as MinersT<lb />player Brandi Aston scored<lb />an easy equalizer before the<lb />half expired.<lb /><lb />The second half began<lb />physical and emotions stirred<lb />as UTEP received a red card<lb /><lb />Staying number one in<lb />_ C-USA is our ultimate<lb />goal and the goals<lb />scored today by Kimmy<lb />and myself ensured just<lb />o sothatie<lb /><lb />JESSICA SWANSON<lb /><lb />WOMENTS SOCCER<lb /><lb />and warnings were issued<lb />to the visiting sideline. The<lb />Pirates remained calm and<lb />poised, and Swanson deliv-<lb />ered a beautiful header that<lb />found the back of the net<lb />giving the Pirates a 2-1 lead.<lb /><lb />THE EAST CAROLINIAN ¢ SPORTS<lb /><lb />the ball out of the net.<lb /><lb />To score the game win-<lb />ning goals against UTEP was<lb />huge,? Swanson said. Stay-<lb />ing number one in C-USA is<lb />our ultimate goal and the goals<lb />scored today by Kimmy and<lb />myself ensured just that.?<lb /><lb />The team stressed the<lb />importance of remaining<lb /><lb />focused and composed head-.<lb /><lb />ing into their next match-<lb />up against UAB, as their<lb />quest for the conference title<lb />continues.<lb /><lb />It was clear that Head<lb />Coach Rob Donnenwirth was<lb />satisfied with the win, but has<lb />the experience and knowledge<lb />to know it will. be a long,<lb />tough road ahead in claiming<lb /><lb />the conference championship.<lb /><lb />The players shared the same<lb />mindset but also expressed<lb />excitement about the future<lb />of their season.<lb /><lb />We have all worked so.<lb /><lb />hard to be where we are right<lb />now, and to see it slip away<lb />would be more than heart-<lb />breaking,? said Swanson. We<lb />are a hardworking team and<lb />to win C-USA would be the<lb />greatest feeling ever.T<lb /><lb />The team will continue<lb />their battle for the conference<lb />title as they travel to Birming-<lb />ham to take on conference<lb />opponent UAB.
