The site<lb />runs on a community of artists submissions. The<lb />basic premise of a submission consists of a looping<lb /><lb />_ image, either still or animated, with a looping audio.<lb /><lb />The site reflects an up-to-date popular culture. The<lb />style of the submissions may be abstract to new<lb />viewers, but there are thousands of submissions<lb />to choose from.<lb />Though the strange minds at work at ytmnd.<lb /><lb />comm are quick, they dont work nearly as fast as The<lb /><lb />Professor Brothers by Brad Neely at superdelux.<lb />com. The genius of The Professor Brothers is in the<lb />insane plots and the subtle animation transitions.<lb />Neelys style of animated comedy can leave an<lb />attentive viewer rolling for days in hilarious images<lb />and unforgettable quotes.<lb /><lb />For those of you who like more developed<lb />humorous stories, like those of Dane Cook, then<lb />Derrick Comedy and The Onion are two outstand-<lb />ing, skit-based productions. Unlike the previous<lb />two, Derrick Comedy is a live action production<lb />hosted on YouTube. All of the posts are skits and<lb />are usually either mock news reports or cleverly<lb />written situations. The actors perform in skits about<lb />memory loss or reports about Kentuckys finest<lb />lemonade made with sulfur.<lb /><lb />The Onion, another live action production, is<lb /><lb />a very professional fake news syndicate. Unlike ©<lb /><lb />The Daily Show or The Colbert Report, The Onion<lb />comments on current events by making its own<lb />news. The cast of convincing reporters takes the<lb />viewer into vulgar and unreported parallels of<lb />popular news headlines. The production quality<lb />of The Onion is what sells it. The big studio feel<lb />along with top-notch camera work and varying<lb />personalities certainly gives this Web site the feel<lb />of a typical CBS newscast. _<lb /><lb />Procrastination is inevitable. Out-of-state students<lb />cant stay at home with their parents to help save<lb />money. Some students buy from value menus, but<lb />those trying to eat healthier are often investing<lb />extra dollars in food. Many students work jobs for<lb />minimum wage or slightly higher while trying to<lb />maintain a full class load, making it harder to find<lb />the extra 50 cents per gallon for gas.<lb /><lb />Though Hurricane Ike has come and gone, we<lb />may find ourselves looking in our empty pockets<lb />wondering what we can do until the next paycheck<lb />comes to make up for the lost cash. With hurricane<lb />season lasting from June | to Nov. 30, we cannot<lb />predict if another hurricane will send gas prices<lb />skyrocketing again.<lb /><lb />The area affected by Ike supplies 25 percent of<lb /><lb />the U.S. refining capacity. Because these refineries<lb /><lb />were shut down before Ikes arrival, panicked gas<lb />stations boosted fuel costs. With $5.20 for unleaded<lb />reported in Cumming, Georgia and close to $5<lb />per gallon in Tennessee and Florida. We can only<lb />hope that we will not face such ridiculous price<lb />increases again. Surprisingly, the gas prices in<lb /><lb />the effected areas of Galveston and Houston only<lb /><lb />rose by 4.8 cents.<lb /><lb />By the end of last week, prices were slowly<lb />decreasing: Though pumps in Greenville were<lb />presenting lower prices, the stations were limited to<lb />supplies of regular unleaded fuels without premium<lb />or diesel and vice versa. On Friday consumers<lb />could fill up with regular at the BP on Greenville<lb />Blvd. and 14th Street at $3.67 per gallon, while:<lb />competitors prices lingered at one or two cents;<lb />above. Upon returning from the ECU-State game<lb />this past weekend, it appears fuel costs in Raleigh<lb />still top at $3.99.per gallon for regular and average<lb />at about $3.85 per gallon in Middlesex.<lb /><lb />According to the Atlantic Oceanographic and<lb />Meteorological Laboratory, approximately 96:<lb />percent of major hurricane days occur between<lb />August and October. We are not in the clear yet,<lb />but Mike Easleys law against price gouging should<lb />help protect high prices from affecting motorists<lb />in the stormy months to come. There is much<lb />debate over whether the price gouging laws are.<lb /><lb />_ beneficial to consumers, but the panic associated<lb /><lb />with storms like Ike send people to the pumps<lb />regardless of price.<lb /><lb />The least these gas stations can do is make fuels<lb />available to.those of us who are forced to pinch<lb />pennies and hold on to our cash. There seems to<lb />be endless financial demands on students, and gas<lb />prices are simply one extra burden.<lb /><lb />This writer can be contacted at<lb />opinion@theeastcarolinian.com.<lb /><lb />READ,<lb />RANT,<lb />SHARE.<lb /><lb />THE EAST<lb />CAROLINIAN<lb /><lb />Elise Phillips<lb />Editor in Chief<lb /><lb />~ Andrea Robertsonr<lb />Opinion Editor<lb /><lb />Natalie Jurgen<lb />News Editor<lb /><lb />Jared Jackson<lb />Asst. The catch was originally<lb />called incomplete, but officials<lb />reversed the call after taking a<lb />closer look. :<lb /><lb />We had our chances to win<lb />the game on defense,? said ECU<lb />safety Van Eskridge. We had<lb />our chances to get those guys<lb />stopped. They kept fighting.<lb /><lb />*~They made the plays when<lb /><lb />they had to and we didnt make<lb /><lb />the plays.?<lb />One of those playmakers<lb />was Wilson, whose athleticism<lb /><lb />kept Eskridge and the ECU.<lb /><lb />defense off-balance all after-<lb />noon. The speedy signal caller<lb />finished the day 21-of-31 for<lb />210 yards and three touch-<lb />downs, while adding 42 yards<lb />on the ground.<lb /><lb />I was really impressed<lb />with Wilson,? Holtz said. I<lb />thought he ~did a great job. I<lb /><lb />think he did an excellent job<lb />as a quarterback. I think hes<lb />going to bea good one for a lot<lb />of years here.?<lb /><lb />While ECUs defense strug-<lb />gled to contain Wilson, NC<lb />States defense came up with<lb />timely stops to weather the<lb />Pirates drives. ,<lb /><lb />_ Starting the fourth quarter<lb />21-17, ECU failed to score<lb />despite having first and goal<lb />from the Wolfpack 4-yard line.<lb />After tailbacks Brandon Sim-<lb />mons and Jonathan Williams<lb />were denied on the first three<lb />tries, Holtz elected to send Wil-<lb /><lb />liams out again rather than take.<lb /><lb />three points.<lb /><lb />- Williams never made it out<lb />of the backfield as NC State<lb />safety J.C. Neal and linebacker<lb />Robbie Leonard easily broke<lb />through the Pirate offensive<lb />line, forcing a 3-yard loss.<lb /><lb />With the defeat, ECU fell<lb />to 10-16 all-time record against<lb /><lb />the Wolfpack.<lb />More importantly, the<lb /><lb />dream of an undefeated season ,<lb /><lb />has been crushed, possibly<lb />along a BCS bow] berth.<lb /><lb />But Holtz isnt worried<lb />about that.<lb /><lb />If we do what weve got<lb />to do, then well let the chips<lb />fall where they do at the end of<lb />the year,? he said. We havent<lb />talked BCS bowl with this<lb /><lb />team to this point. The people ©<lb /><lb />outside have. We havent said<lb />a word about it.?<lb /><lb />The victory was the first<lb />for the Wolfpack over a Divi-<lb />sion I-A team this season, with<lb />their previous win coming<lb /><lb />against William and Mary. NC<lb />State out gained ECU by one<lb />yard on total offense, with 257<lb />yards in the air.<lb /><lb />Im certainly not going<lb />to hang my head, pout or<lb /><lb /> OVERTIME page 7<lb /><lb />RONNIE WOODWARD<lb />Tue East CAROLINIAN<lb /><lb />. This past Saturday, ECU<lb />coach Skip Holtz was faced with<lb />one of the toughest decisions a<lb /><lb />football coach has to make. The.<lb /><lb />decision backfired on ECU, giving<lb />NC State momentum, but it was<lb />still the right decision.<lb /><lb />In the first possession of the<lb />fourth quarter, ECU drove down<lb />the field and had first-and-goal<lb />from the 4-yard line, winning 21-<lb />17. The Pirates were on the verge<lb />of pushing their lead to two pos-<lb />sessions. This would have made<lb />an N.C. State comeback very<lb />difficult, if not impossible.<lb /><lb />The next four plays changed<lb />the complexion of ~the game,<lb />giving the Wolfpack all the hope<lb />it needed.<lb /><lb />On first-and-goal, Jonathan<lb />Williams was tackled just short<lb />of the N.C. State end zone, setting<lb />up second-and-goal from the 1-<lb />yard line. Two unsuccessful runs<lb />later, the Pirates remained on the<lb /><lb />1-yard-line, forcing Holtz to make<lb />a crucial decision.<lb /><lb />The conservative, and argu-<lb />ably logical, decision to the fourth<lb />down dilemma would be to kick a<lb />field goal. A successful field goal<lb />attempt would have put ECU<lb />ahead by one touchdown, forcing<lb />NC State to score twice"or con-<lb />vert a two-point conversion"to<lb />take the lead.<lb /><lb />Holtz took the riskier approach, :<lb /><lb />and went for it. .<lb /><lb />After what appeared to be<lb />some backfield confusion before<lb />the play, Williams was hammered<lb />by N.C. State safety J.C. Neal<lb />immediately after receiving the<lb />fourth down handoff. The Pirates<lb />attempt to seal the game failed.<lb /><lb />NC States goal line stand<lb />completely reversed the momen-<lb /><lb />tum of the game. The Wolfpack<lb />went on to win 30-24 in overtime,<lb /><lb />ECU coach Skip Holtz gives a playcall to quarterback Patrick Pinkney.<lb /><lb />but Holtz stood by his decision<lb />after the loss.<lb /><lb />T dont regret it,? he said. T<lb />turned to [defensive coordinator]<lb />Greg Hudson and said, ~What do<lb />you think? He said, ~Go ahead.<lb />Lets get up two scores now. So<lb />we turned and we went after it.?<lb /><lb />Its easy to second guess<lb />coaches decisions, but in reality,<lb /><lb />ECU was just inches away from<lb />putting the game away. Holtz ©<lb /><lb />should not be blamed for trying<lb />to do that.<lb />We played this game to win,?<lb /><lb />Holtz said: We didnt play it.<lb /><lb />conservative or close to the vest.<lb />I wouldnt change anything that<lb />I did: I might change a couple of<lb />play calls since they didnt work,<lb />but I would go for it again.?<lb /><lb />The fourth-year ECU coach<lb />also pointed out the impact field<lb />position had on his decision. After<lb />the defensive stand, NC State took<lb /><lb />the ball over to its own five-yard- -<lb /><lb />line with 10:33 left in the game,<lb />still losing 21-17.<lb /><lb />After three plays and a punt by<lb />the Wolfpack, ECU started its next<lb /><lb />drive with a short field, eventually<lb />getting the desired field goal and<lb />24-17 lead.<lb /><lb />ECU, now ranked No. 23, was<lb />one measly yard away from seal-<lb /><lb />ing aroad victory over its archrival |<lb /><lb />and continuing a dream season.<lb />The risk was worth taking. "<lb />Holtz deserves credit for taking<lb />a chance, and for owning his deci-<lb />sion after it didnt work. .-<lb />If ECU had put the ball into<lb />the end zone on that drive, the<lb /><lb />Pirates would still be undefeated<lb /><lb />and Holtz would be praised for<lb /><lb />-s decision worth the risk<lb /><lb />THE ASSOCIATED PRESS<lb /><lb />making a great decision.<lb /><lb />Instead, the Pirates were<lb />handed their first ~loss of the<lb />season and will have to regroup<lb />after such a deflating weekend<lb />in Raleigh.<lb /><lb />There are tons of reasons<lb />why teams lose college football<lb />games, but a coachs: decision<lb />to try and win one -when pre-<lb />sented the opportunity-is not one<lb />of them.<lb /><lb />This writer can be contacted at<lb />sports@theeastcarolinian.com.<lb /><lb />|<lb />|<lb /><lb /></p>

J think you can tell<lb />by the reaction of the girls<lb />at the end how excited<lb />they were to beat Mar-<lb /><lb />shall, who is a very good<lb /><lb />conference opponent.?<lb />Rushing was pleased<lb /><lb />with the effort put.forth<lb /><lb />by his players during the<lb />match, and theres no doubt<lb />their hard work and tough<lb /><lb />play was instrumental in<lb /><lb />the victory.<lb /><lb />We piIisyea sealty;<lb />really hard tonight. Sta-<lb />tistically, both teams were<lb />almost identical and it was<lb />a fight to the finish. We<lb />knew it was going to be a<lb />battle, we knew they were<lb />going to be close, and it<lb />was a total team effort<lb />today,? he said. When the<lb />girls got down a couple of<lb />times here and there, they<lb />really fought through it<lb />and pulled together to get<lb />the win.?<lb /><lb />The next match up of the<lb />weekend for the Pirates was<lb />with MEAC foe Morgan<lb />State. ECU dominated the<lb />Bears, winning three games<lb />with scores of 25-13, 25-<lb />17 and 25-18. The Pirates<lb />dominated every stat cat-<lb />egory and almost doubled<lb />Morgan States kills and<lb />assists totals.<lb /><lb />The nightcap was not as<lb />kind for ECU.<lb /><lb />ECU lost to N.C. State<lb />ina heartbreaker that went<lb />five games. The Pirates<lb />jumped out to a 2-0 lead<lb />before running out of gas<lb />and dropping the last three<lb />games, falling to their in-<lb />state rivals. Zentner had a<lb />terrific game with 16 kills<lb />and five blocks and fresh-<lb />man sensation Lutzow tal-<lb />lied the first double-double -<lb />of her career in the losing<lb />effort with 13 kills and<lb />15 digs.<lb /><lb />~Rushing acknowledged<lb />how important it was to<lb />build momentum this week-<lb />end before opening up their<lb />full conference schedule.<lb /><lb />~There are alot ~of.<lb />momentum shifts and<lb />swings in volleyball,?<lb />he said. This can only<lb />help our momentum<lb />going forward.?<lb /><lb />ECU has two confer-<lb />ence matches at home this<lb />weekend. It will take on<lb />UAB Friday night a7 p.m.,<lb />and then Memphis Sunday<lb />afternoon at 1 p.m. ;<lb /><lb />This writer can be contacted at<lb />sports@theeastcarolinian.com.<lb /><lb />NICHOLAS THIGPEN | "THE EAST CAROLINIAN<lb />ECU rejects Morgan States attempt to score this past Saturday in Greenville.<lb /><lb />OVERTIME continued from 6<lb /><lb />go hide because we lost to<lb />them,? I think they<lb />went up there and competed<lb />their tail off"not bad for a<lb />bunch of guys that werent<lb />good enough to play in an<lb />ACC conference.?<lb /><lb />Running back Norman<lb />Whitley had a breakout game<lb />for the Pirates, rushing for<lb />83 yards and one touchdown.<lb />Whitley exploded for a 42-yard<lb />score down the left sideline,<lb />giving ECU a21-14 lead in the<lb />third quarter.<lb /><lb />Eskridge opened the scor-<lb />ing when he intercepted N.C.<lb />State quarterback Harrison<lb />Becks pass and returned it 23<lb />yards for a touchdown.<lb /><lb />After the Wolfpack<lb />answered to tie the score at<lb />seven, Pinkney hooked up<lb />with tight end Davon Drew<lb />for a 39-yard touchdown down<lb />the middle of the field to<lb />give the Pirates a 14-7 lead<lb />at halftime.<lb /><lb />This writer can be contacted at<lb />sports@theeastcarolinian.com.<lb /><lb />Hair Connection<lb /><lb />107 Eastbrook Dr. Greenville (Near Sonic on Greenville Blvd.)<lb /><lb />Relaxers<lb /><lb />Bie ke<lb /><lb />Do Bee Wraps<lb /><lb />[keke<lb /><lb />Student Specials Tues-Fri only<lb />Mazani RRelaxers * Cuts Color *Hezire Relaxers<lb /><lb />Trims ° Hair Growth Treatment<lb /><lb />Sila Jones 329-1210<lb /><lb /></p>
