Now, her<lb />work will be seen in the PBS showing of the<lb />documentary, The Power of Forgiveness.<lb /><lb />The documentary will air tonight at 10<lb />p.m. on the network, and is broken up into a<lb /><lb />number of sections to include interviews with<lb />mothers and wives of September 11 victims,<lb />national leadersT view on forgiveness (includ-<lb />ing an interview with the Dalai Lama) and a<lb /><lb />section that will feature RowTs work on the<lb /><lb />science of forgiveness.<lb /><lb />' Row says she started her work in 1997<lb />while studying the science of hostility, when<lb />the Templeton Foundation created a grant<lb /><lb />program for the study of forgiveness. It was "<lb /><lb />then that Row decided to study something<lb />healthful rather than harmful.<lb /><lb />During her research, Row interviewed<lb />hundreds of participants in one-on-one<lb />meetings where the subject was asked to<lb /><lb />recount a time when they were betrayed<lb />or wronged all while being hooked up<lb />to blood pressure and heart rate moni-<lb />tors. Participants also filled « out surveys<lb />about forgiveness.<lb /><lb />Row found that everyone who recounted<lb />an event of betrayal had a rise in blood<lb />pressure, but those who had forgiven that<lb />betrayal returned to normal levels quicker<lb />than those still holding on to the offense.<lb /><lb />You literally carry it around with you,<lb />said Row. If you had a heavy sack on your<lb /><lb />back, your blood pressure would raise to let<lb /><lb />you be able to carry it around with you.<lb />Other findings of RowTs research reveal<lb /><lb />that older individuals tend to forgive more<lb />readily than younger ones and women are<lb />generally more forgiving than men. ~<lb /><lb />People do get a little more forgiving<lb />with age, Row said. Sounds very heartwarming, right? Here is the catch: in practically<lb />every episode, each of these furry, happy creatures dies a very unexpected<lb />and gruesome death.<lb /><lb />To most parents, a cartoon such as this would be an abomination. No<lb />parent would possibly reason that this show is acceptable for their children.<lb />However, you must ask yourself: is this the first cartoon not suitable for<lb />young viewers? The<lb />most notable player of the deal was<lb />Al Jefferson. The move was likely<lb /><lb />done so that a player of GarnettTs.<lb /><lb />caliber was given the chance to<lb />compete for a title, but keep in<lb />mind that McHale and Ainge were<lb />once Celtic teammates.<lb /><lb />While all this was going down<lb />on the east coast, Lakers star<lb />shooting guard Kobe Bryant was<lb />publicly demanding a trade on<lb />every media medium from the<lb />radio to YouTube.<lb /><lb />The season began with crit-<lb />ics or even fans of the Lakers not<lb />knowing how the team would mesh<lb />or how well they would do: While<lb />the team played above average, it<lb />was not until the acquisition of<lb />All-Star forward Pau Gasol that<lb />the Lakers became the favorite in<lb />the Western Conference.<lb /><lb />What is exactly on the line?<lb /><lb />For Boston, the big three could<lb />be forever remembered as NBA<lb />champions. Pierce, Allen and Gar-<lb />nett have all had stellar careers<lb />but have never played for tlie title.<lb />While each are in their early 30Ts<lb />and have certainly a few more sea-<lb /><lb />sons left to play together, there is<lb />no time like the present to capture<lb />immortality and basketball glory.<lb />As for Pierce personally, he has the<lb />chance to step up and become one<lb />of the greatest Celtics of all-time.<lb />A title would validate that claim.<lb />As for Los Angeles, it is all<lb />about Kobe Bryant. After winning<lb />his first MVP award, the 10-time<lb />All-Star is poised to win his first<lb />title without the assistance of<lb />Shaquille OTNeal. When OTNeal<lb />accomplished the vice-versa two<lb />years ago, it has surely eaten at<lb />Bryant ever since. In addition, Phil<lb />Jackson has the chance to become<lb />the all-time NBA head coach in<lb />terms of championship wins, pass-<lb />ing BostonTs own Red Auerbach.<lb />Each currently claims 10 titles.<lb />So when the jump ball takes place<lb />in game one Thursday, all the past<lb /><lb />battles of the Celtics and Lakers will<lb /><lb />be remembered, but the past doesnTt<lb />matter; itTs the future that counts.<lb />With former greats from both<lb />sides looking, arivalry will be renewed<lb />and this may set the tone for a new<lb /><lb />beginning in this rivalry. Each side "<lb /><lb />is poised to conquer their respective<lb />conferences for years to come.<lb /><lb />This writer can be contacted at<lb />sports@theeastcarolinian.com<lb /><lb />LOOK continued from page 9 -<lb /><lb />going for it as it ever has with new<lb />stars like Sidney Crosby and Alex-<lb />ander Ovechkin, but fans across<lb /><lb />never fully grasp the mainstream<lb />success its backers search for as long<lb />as it isnTt made more easily available<lb />to watch.<lb /><lb />ITm not going to<lb />pay to watch an aging,<lb />overhyped street fighter<lb />pummela Brit's deformed<lb />cauliflower ear until it<lb />pops"but I will gladly<lb />watch it for free.<lb /><lb />Ifthe UFCis so much<lb />better, letTs see some<lb />significant fights on a<lb />regular basis"for free.<lb /><lb />Imagine ESPN<lb />and TNT carrying the<lb />entire NBA season but<lb />making the playoffs ,<lb />available only on pay- *%<lb />per-view.<lb /><lb />It seems like the<lb />NHL has the opposite effect.<lb /><lb />NHL games are available region-<lb />ally before going invisible on the<lb />Versus Network for the playoffs, only<lb />to mysteriously reappear on NBC<lb />when it looks like a Stanley Cup<lb />Champion is close to being crowned.<lb /><lb />The NHL had better be aiming<lb />for anew ESPN contract when its<lb />time at Versus runs out, or its rat-<lb />ings will continue to rest behind<lb />novelty acts such as EliteXC.<lb /><lb />Hockey has about as much<lb /><lb />wced Lowe aatnan cable 2?<lb />iversity |<lb /><lb />$1000 gift card when you signa lease*<lb /><lb />when you take a tour<lb /><lb />University Manor<lb />3535 East 10th Street<lb /><lb />collegeparkweb.com<lb /><lb />Or<lb /><lb />252.758.5551<lb /><lb />*~ OFFER ONLY VALID IF YOU EXECUTE A VALID LEASE AGREEMENT IN FORM AND SUBSTANCE SATISFACTORY<lb /><lb />TO COLLEGE PARK COMMUNITIES.<lb /><lb />| REASON OR NO REASON.<lb /><lb />COLLEGE PARK COMMUNITIES RESERVES THE RIGHT TO EDIT, REVISE,<lb />EXTEND GR CANCEL THE PROAAOTION CONTAINED IN THIS ADVERTISEMENT AT ANY TIME FOR ANY<lb /><lb />t=) ch |<lb /><lb />James Thompson and Kimbo Slice battled on Sali<lb /><lb />the country canTt even find them<lb />playing most of the time. |<lb /><lb />As an obsessed soccer fanatic,<lb />ITm used to being disappointed by<lb />programming.
