This weekend, our Pirates take on Carolina in a 3:30 p.m. match up in Chapel Hill. TEC would like to wish Coach Logan and the team the very best as they take on the Tar Heels. Historically, we haven't been all that successful against the squad. The last time we did play was in 1981 and the Tar Heels beat us 56-0. We think that it™s just about time to claim a victory. Granted, the Heels look pretty good this year with crucial wins against Florida State and NC State, but one thing about the Pirates .. no one can ever know what to expect. Miami learned very quickly in the fall of 1999 that our Pirates just don™t give up, especially when it comes to an in-state rival like Carolina. Although we may not have much fan support at Kenan, there will be a huge fan base in Greenville and across the country cheering the team on. Each of these MOVIE from page B1 plot and insufficient foreshadowing leaves the viewer clueless at times. Certain aspects of the film seem to have a forced plot; a few situations work out to be a little too convenient for the sake of the story, which compromises the believability of the plot. Other parts seem superfluous, and it is difficult to determine their relevance to the rest of the film. As for the DVD special fea- tures, there™s really nothing ail that special about them. They include the standard items: the theatrical trailer and the making of Along Came a Spider, which simply sum- marizes the movie without showing a lot of behind-the scenes action. The movie is carried by quality performances by the cast, especially Freeman (who has excelled in similar roles in the past), Potter, and newcomer Mika Boorem. There are also a handful of com- pelling and inventive scenes, par- ticularly the kidnap scene and the ransom exchange scene, and in these few instances the movie pretends to be the thriller it was hyped to be. The action is tainted, though, by a lack of build-up and computer-generated stunts that are too obviously phony.
