John Reitzell opened up the<lb />information session by illustrating<lb />his reasons for the war by showing<lb />a film of self-captured footage he<lb />shot of U.S. soldiers fighting in<lb />Iraq. Most scenes depicted U.S.<lb />soldiers firing large weapons at<lb />Iraqi buildings.<lb /><lb />Maj. John Krenson, who now<lb />serves as an ordained deacon in the<lb />Roman Catholic Church also spoke<lb />about his personal viewpoints, but<lb />he chose to focus on the religious<lb />and theological perspectives. He<lb />said he feels anyone who practices<lb />the Christian faith must view this<lb />war as a way to justify fighting for<lb /><lb />their country.<lb /><lb />Lastly, Lt. Col. Scott Rutter<lb />presented his opinions by jumping<lb />on top of the tables to recite a time-<lb />line of all the incidents he claims<lb />led up to this war. Rutter said that<lb />the reasons for the U.S. s involve-<lb />ment in Iraq can be simply traced<lb />back to the Islamic Revolution.<lb /><lb />After each officer spoke a ques-<lb />tion and answer session was held.<lb />Persons both for and against war<lb />spoke out regarding their opinions<lb />of America Ts current involvement in<lb />the Middle East.<lb /><lb />A 19-year-old political science -<lb /><lb />major, David Zeher said it was<lb />refreshing to hear the three officers<lb />come and speak. Zeher also said<lb />that these three men provided him<lb />with an un-biased account of why<lb />we are actually fighting. Zeher feels<lb />the media is to blame for the reason<lb />most Americans are not in favor of<lb />troops going to Iraq.<lb /><lb /> oNBC NEWS T and ABC<lb />NEWS are a center for bias and<lb /><lb />propaganda; they twist viewpoints<lb />and causalities. We lose more people<lb />from smoking each day than we<lb />do in the war, and do you hear<lb />about that? I feel that the news<lb />networks take a stance and they<lb />don Tt budge on that, ? said Zehr.<lb /><lb />On the other hand, there were<lb />those present who were not in favor<lb />of the war.<lb /><lb />27-year-old Jacek Teller, physics<lb />major and member of ECU Peace<lb />and Justice, said he has good reason<lb />for believing this war is not worth<lb />fighting for.<lb /><lb />Teller served as a marine for<lb />five years and he believes that<lb />most Iraqis do not want American<lb />troops in their country anymore.<lb /><lb /> oThere was a poll done March<lb />2006 listed on Zogby International<lb />that shows 60 percent of all Ameri-<lb />can troops would like America<lb />to pull out of the war, and over<lb />85 percent of Iraqis want us out<lb />of Iraq by year Ts end, ? said Teller.<lb /><lb />Teller said that when serving<lb /><lb />as a Marine, he saw first hand how<lb />this war is a battle to keep America<lb />on the forefront of world power.<lb />He gave the example of this power<lb />struggle by talking about an inci-<lb />dent he learned of called oMonsanto<lb />Seeds. ?<lb /><lb />Monsanto Seeds is an American<lb />seed company which supplies Iraq<lb />with the seeds they need to grow<lb />their crops. Teller said that Mon-<lb />santo Seeds is the only company that<lb />the U.S. military will allow Iraqis<lb />to buy their seeds from. He said<lb />that once the seeds finally arrive<lb />to Iraqi farmers they are what he<lb />called osuicide seeds, ? a kind of seed<lb />which will produce crops but when<lb />new seeds fall from the crops they<lb />are infertile. This forces the Iraqi<lb />people to have to buy more seeds<lb />if they want to grow more crops of<lb />that kind; an: incident that Teller<lb />called oeconomic exploitation. ?<lb /><lb />This writer can be contacted at<lb />news@theeastcarolinian.com.<lb /><lb />SERVICE continued from Al<lb /><lb />one of my goals for the week was<lb />to get more guys to participate.<lb />My hope is that we can show more<lb />gentlemen the benefits of commu-<lb />nity service and hopefully get them<lb />to enjoy volunteering. ?<lb /><lb />To encourage more male par-<lb />ticipation, Theta Chi sponsored a<lb />Men Ts Challenge.<lb /><lb />The Men Ts Challenge, which<lb />involved a Youth Sports Fair,<lb />allowed volunteers to play sports and<lb />recreational games with children<lb />from local after school programs.<lb /><lb /> oIt Ts important to help out<lb />the community any way we<lb />can, ? said Brad Congleton,<lb />sophomore sports management<lb />major. oThese kids don Tt have a lot of<lb />positive male role models so it was<lb />important for us to volunteer and<lb />give them someone to look up to. ?<lb /><lb />Students that participated in<lb />community service activities on<lb />their own were able to record their<lb />hours as well.<lb /><lb />Students were able to submit<lb />their a hours online by<lb />providing the contact information<lb />of supervisors and certifying that<lb />the information was true, based on<lb /><lb />the ECU honor code.<lb /><lb /> oA lot of people volunteer on<lb />their own and outside of the uni-<lb />versity, T Montgomery said. oWe<lb />wanted to give them an easy way to<lb />record their hours and participate in<lb />Service North Carolina. ?<lb /><lb />Last year, ECU finished a close<lb />second to N.C. <lb />Opinion<lb /><lb />Oh Iran, what<lb />did you do?<lb /><lb />We had such high hopes<lb /><lb />YAZID FINN<lb />OPINION WRITER<lb /><lb />My friend described the situation with Iran<lb />pretty well in a recent conversation. He said that<lb />Iran was like a little Chihuahua, nipping on the<lb />heels of the world. Now normally I would defend<lb />Ahmadinejad and the choices of Iran, however the<lb />country is not making it easy for me. Two recent<lb />events come to mind.<lb /><lb />To begin there is the ocapture ? of the fifteen<lb />British sailors and marines. While the event is far<lb />too controversial for me to accept any claim as fact,<lb />I will just look at the case.<lb /><lb />Iran seizes fifteen British marines and sailors,<lb />whom Iran believes to have illegally crossed into<lb />Iranian waters. Britain on the other hand denies this,<lb />with Tony Blair asserting that those captured were<lb />actually in waters of Iraq.<lb /><lb />Now this is a real lose-lose situation on Iran Ts<lb />part. If they were doing it legitimately, their efforts<lb />will be for nothing and the country will still be<lb />pegged as the bad guy.<lb /><lb />Let us remember that this is not the first time<lb />British marines would have accidentally stumbled<lb />into Iranian waters, nor the first time Iran has taken<lb />British marines into custody.<lb /><lb />On the flip side, what purpose do they hope to<lb />serve by capturing the soldiers outside of Iranian<lb />water? Is Iran hoping for another Ronald Reagan?<lb />This move of ostanding up ? to the West would have<lb />been a bit more gutsy if they really had the nuclear<lb />weapons that Neo-Conservatives in America paint<lb />them as attempting to gain.<lb /><lb />As if that were not enough, Iran piles more<lb />weight on their shoulders by pushing away the<lb />International Atomic Energy Agency.<lb /><lb />While Iran reasons the exclusion of the IAEA<lb />followed UN Security Council sanctions on their<lb />country, now is not the best time to raise any more<lb />suspicion.<lb /><lb />Iran needs all the evidence they can muster<lb />that nuclear armaments are not the focus of their<lb />uranium enrichment. Failing to inform the IAEA<lb />of Iran Ts plans and prégress does not speak well of<lb />their current position.<lb /><lb />While I do not believe war is imminent with<lb />Iran, the West Ts opinion of the country is further<lb />deteriorating. But what is Iran to do? Ahmadinejad<lb />has no interest in becoming another puppet nation<lb />like others in the Middle East.<lb /><lb />Iran is quite content with their spot in the top<lb />five oil exporters for the world and will surely use<lb />their place if provoked.<lb /><lb />Iran Ts upped thé ante and with both Britain and<lb />the United States at the table, we will have to wait<lb />and see who shows their hand first.<lb /><lb />Deadline<lb /><lb />for war<lb /><lb />Is that even possible?<lb /><lb />MARGOT ROGERSON<lb />OPINION WRITER<lb /><lb />Recently, the House of Representatives passed a<lb />new bill concerning plans for the war in Iraq. The<lb />bill states that operations in Iraq, at least to some<lb />degree, will cease before September 2008.<lb /><lb />This bill has been in speculation for a while, but<lb />for some reason, | did not think it had an actual chance<lb />of passing, even in a liberal House of Representatives.<lb /><lb />First, let me state that J am neither a Democrat<lb />nor a Republican. I try to view the issues as they are,<lb />and I believe the best solution can be made without<lb />party interruptions.<lb /><lb />That said, this bill seems almost ludicrous, and I<lb />cannot help but feel that I am onside with the President.<lb /><lb />The President responded to the House Ts decision<lb />almost immediately. President Bush stated, oMem-<lb />bers of Congress now face a choice: Whether they<lb />will waste time and provoke an unnecessary confron-<lb />tation, or whether they will join us in working to do<lb />the people Ts business. We have many important issues<lb />before us. So we need to put partisan politics aside<lb />and come together to enact important legislation for<lb />the American people. ?<lb /><lb />I have to agree. It seems that Congress would<lb />do more good by trying to work with the executive<lb />branch. If the House will only serve to bring about<lb />bills that have an almost certain expectation of being<lb />vetoed, what is the purpose?<lb /><lb />Although I may not agree with the war in Iraq, I<lb />disagree with the Democrats passing this bill. One of<lb />the large purposes of the bill is to cease involvement<lb />in Iraq and pull troops out by September 2008. I do<lb />not know what person can put a time limit on a war.<lb />I do not feel such a person exists. That idea alone<lb />should seem ludicrous to.anyone.<lb /><lb />I am nota proponent for American soldiers losing<lb />their lives, and I am not a proponent for going to<lb />war with one reason and stating another. That said,<lb />I do feel we can complete the mission in Iraq. I feel<lb />it is important to remember that most soldiers today<lb />know beforehand that the likelihood of a tour in Iraq<lb />is inevitable. But these soldiers continue to sign up<lb />because this is a cause of which they believe.<lb /><lb />Our founding fathers created a system of checks<lb />and balances so that one element of government<lb />could not get too powerful. However, in this case,<lb />it seems as if one branch is at war with another.<lb />There are ways to show your displeasure without<lb />purposefully creating tension between Congress<lb />and the president.<lb /><lb />It seems as if the House of Representatives is<lb />more concerned with being against the Bush admin-<lb />istration than they are with trying to do what is right<lb />for Americans.<lb /><lb />Wouldn't a more effective plan be established if<lb />each branch would agree to work with another for<lb />a solution?<lb /><lb />MCT<lb /><lb />{ Home of the Rants }<lb /><lb />TUESDAY APRIL3, 2007<lb />RANT OF THE DAY<lb /><lb />I demand another SGA election. No<lb /><lb />joke.<lb /><lb />The best years of your life<lb /><lb />Did you spend them wisely?<lb /><lb />LISA URAM<lb />OPINION WRITER<lb /><lb />So what do you want to do with your life? For<lb />most college-graduates, the easy answer is to find<lb />a job that utilizes the skills you've worked towards<lb />for the past four years. Unfortunately, although a<lb />college degree is an outstanding accomplishment, it<lb />doesn Tt entitle you to immediate career success and a<lb />big paycheck. More than ever before, employers are<lb />looking for more than just a diploma.<lb /><lb />As acollege student, you have probably heard the<lb />term omarket yourself ? more than once, but it Ts true.<lb />Students often get caught up in grade point averages<lb />and forget to develop other valuable proficiencies.<lb />Participating in volunteer work, internships, work-<lb />study, school organizations and even holding a<lb />part-time job throughout college helps significantly<lb />broaden your chances of landing an interview when<lb />applying for a job.<lb /><lb />So you have an interview, what do you do now?<lb />The most important aspect of nailing an interview<lb />is how you prepare before you get there. Companies<lb /><lb />expect that you know a great deal about their com-<lb />pany and what they want to accomplish before you<lb />get there. It is also wise to evaluate what you want in<lb />a career. Do you really want what they're offering?<lb />Are you willing to travel or relocate? What salary<lb />do you think you deserve?<lb /><lb />Developing a strong work ethic is also important,<lb />along with verbal and written communication skills,<lb />quantitative tools (tables, spreadsheets and graphs),<lb />research skills, working well in groups and many<lb />more skills that are often overlooked while in col-<lb />lege. Most importantly, there are tons of resources<lb />available on the Internet that can better prepare you<lb />for the oreal world ? of life after college. These aren't<lb />resources just for seniors; at every level of college,<lb />you should be seriously thinking about why you went<lb />to college in the first place.<lb /><lb />Students in the 21st century are becoming<lb />increasingly consumed by the social scene that col-<lb />lege offers. By the time you stop and realize that<lb />all your friends will one day move on, get a job,<lb />get married and have children, you'll wish you had<lb />spent more of your college years devoting your time<lb />to preparing for the future. After all, your career is<lb />your future.<lb /><lb />MCT<lb /><lb />Finding the<lb />right one T<lb /><lb />What no one can teach you about<lb />love and relationships<lb /><lb />ELISE PHILLIPS<lb />ASSISTANT PULSE EDITOR<lb /><lb />I believe that there is only one person in the<lb />world for everybody.<lb /><lb />I know it sounds cheesy, but I think that once<lb />you've found the right person, you know. But how<lb />easy is it to find that one special person? In my<lb />experience, it is not very easy at all.<lb /><lb />When I got to ECU, I thought, this is a big univer-<lb />sity, there has to be that one person just waiting for me.<lb /><lb />I thought that finding that one would not take<lb />much time, I mean, there are thousands of guys here,<lb />just waiting for that special girl. Wrong.<lb /><lb />For starters, it seems that almost half of the<lb />guys here at ECU are gay, or they are only looking<lb />for casual sex.<lb /><lb />I found myself getting frustrated and confused<lb />at the prospect of going through my whole college<lb />career without one meaningful relationship. Without<lb />finding the one person for me.<lb /><lb />I started to wonder, has our society turned in<lb />the dream of a special, long-lasting relationship for<lb />just temporary, sex-driven flings? Or is there still<lb />hope that everyone will find that one person for<lb />him or her?<lb /><lb />Has the thought of being with the one, building<lb />a relationship and family with them, gone by the<lb />wayside?<lb /><lb />Last semester, I took a Courtship and Marriage<lb />class. In the class, we had to give a speech about<lb />our current relationship, or past relationships, or<lb />relationship experiences that we had.<lb /><lb />I was surprised to find that almost half of the<lb />class gave a speech about how they believed that<lb />their current relationship was the right one, the one<lb />that they would be with forever.<lb /><lb />By the end of the semester, most of these same<lb />students had broken up with their significant others<lb />and found new ones.<lb /><lb />At that point, I thought, hey, at least they tried. I<lb />mean, that Ts what dating is, right, trial and error?<lb /><lb />I see things a little differently now.<lb /><lb />I think that people develop casual, sexual rela-<lb />tionships with people to get experience for the person<lb />that will be the one. They do it because they feel that<lb />finding the perfect person for them is a dream, kind<lb />of like becoming a millionaire. Everybody wants to<lb />be one, but only those who go after it will be rolling<lb />around in the money.<lb /><lb />Maybe finding the right one is the same.<lb /><lb />People feel it Ts attainable, but not so likely.<lb /><lb />I think that people should see finding that one<lb />person that fits you like a glove, whose weaknesses<lb />are your strengths, and whose strengths are your<lb />weaknesses, whose touch makes you jump even after<lb />50 years, as a necessity.<lb /><lb />It is an attainable goal to find and be with that<lb />right one. Maybe people should stop casually dating<lb />the wrong ones and try looking for the real thing.<lb /><lb />There might not be so many broken hearts if<lb />they did.<lb /><lb />STARBUCKS Coffer<lb /><lb />ft LkICE fine | f<lb /><lb />es<lb /><lb />ED<lb /><lb />oon es<lb /><lb />ete ene<lb /><lb />ee MN LARS<lb /><lb /> oAn armed man claims he is holding Starbucks<lb />barista Lucy Klampton hostage until she stops<lb />using the word venti. Each song<lb />that the choir performed supported<lb />the theme, using music to describe<lb />who God is to the choir members.<lb /><lb />At the beginning of the night,<lb />a PowerPoint was shown, outlin-<lb />ing each name of God in Hebrew,<lb />with its English translation.<lb /><lb />Along with posters, flyers and<lb />handouts, the choir also sponsored<lb /><lb />{ Campus Scene}<lb /><lb />Voices unite in celebration<lb /><lb />TUESDAY APRIL 3, 2007<lb /><lb />Page A4<lb /><lb />a commercial, which aired on a<lb />local Christian radio station.<lb /><lb />The program took place<lb />on Palm Sunday, which is the<lb />day Christians celebrate Jesus T<lb />voyage to Jerusalem, where he<lb />was welcomed with the waving of<lb />palm branches.<lb /><lb />The choir reenacted this event<lb />with women entering with palm<lb />leaves in their hands, waving<lb />them to the beat of the music.<lb />The men then entered the audito-<lb />rium, holding swords and march-<lb />ing like soldiers through the<lb /><lb />Sees<lb /><lb />Education is an important tool that children in Uganda look forward to utilizing to ensure a brighter future.<lb /><lb />Invisible Children ignites<lb />_ passion in ECU students<lb /><lb />New organization is<lb />working towards saving<lb />a country<lb /><lb />LAURA HUHN<lb />STAFF WRITER<lb /><lb />College students are informed<lb />of certain international issues<lb />within a classroom, but only<lb />to the extent of the professor Ts<lb />knowledge. The issue is often not<lb />that personal to the students, but<lb />that. doesn Tt mean that college<lb />students don Tt care. They are just<lb />searching for something to be pas-<lb />sionate about.<lb /><lb />Here on ECU Ts campus, a<lb />group of students have found their<lb />passion. Invisible Children United<lb />at ECU is an organization that<lb />stems from a worldwide organi-<lb />zation called Invisible Children<lb />International. IC International is<lb />a rapidly growing organization<lb />whose goal is to raise awareness<lb />about the dire plight. of children<lb />caught up in the civil war in<lb />Uganda.<lb /><lb />The organization started when<lb />three American college students<lb />decided to take a trip to Africa<lb />to find a story. Upon exploration<lb />of Uganda, they stumbled upon<lb />a story they had never expected.<lb />They learned that the rebels, who<lb />hope to overthrow the govern-<lb />ment, take great and violent mea-<lb />sures to recruit members to their<lb />party, including kidnapping chil-<lb /><lb />dren from their homes and forcing<lb />them to become soldiers, never to<lb />be seen again. These students then<lb />made a film of their travels in the<lb />hopes of spreading the message of<lb />the Ugandan children Ts needs all<lb />around the world.<lb /><lb />IC United at ECU is amember<lb />of the nationwide Schools for<lb />Schools initiative. Séhools for<lb />Schools is.a way for high schools<lb />and universities across the nation<lb />to utilize the creativity of their<lb />student body, to help raise money<lb />for greater education in Uganda.<lb /><lb />Ashley Wrenn, a textiles<lb />design major in her fourth year<lb />at ECU, founded the IC United<lb />here on campus in February. She<lb />spoke of how ECU is now part of<lb />a larger design.<lb /><lb /> oSchools all around the United<lb />States have joined together to help<lb />Ugandan schools, ? she said.<lb /><lb />Each member of Schools for<lb />Schools is then partnered with a<lb />school in Uganda, ensuring that<lb />the funds raised go directly where<lb />they should. The idea is to provide<lb />the schools with a greater means<lb />to be able to educate the children.<lb /><lb /> oWe are starting with the most<lb />basic needs, such as water, ? Wrenn<lb />said. oThen we plan to move on to<lb />help recruit teachers and overall<lb />improve the schools. You won't get<lb />past the war until there is greater<lb />education. ?<lb /><lb />Laurel Truelove, a sophomore<lb />math education major, spoke of<lb />how reachable the goals are.<lb /><lb /> oJust $10,000 will get running<lb />water in the school, ? she said. oI<lb />think it Ts incredibly important to<lb />show ECU students that even the<lb />small things can end up making a<lb />huge difference in our community<lb />and in places we Tve never seen<lb />before. ? "<lb /><lb />IC United is a perfect outlet<lb />for students who desire to put<lb />energy in a cause that will truly<lb />change lives. A great difference<lb />in IC International and other non-<lb />profit organizations is that those<lb />involved in IC know for a fact that<lb />their funds are benefiting the<lb />people directly. There is always<lb />a group of full-time workers and<lb />interns from IC International in<lb />Uganda, seeing to it that the hard<lb />work and passion of the students<lb />back in America is really worth<lb />something.<lb /><lb /> oWe're trying to raise more<lb />awareness because it Ts something<lb />we didn Tt know about, and we can<lb />truly help save a country, ? Wrenn<lb />said.<lb /><lb />Truelove spoke of IC United Ts<lb />hopes in the coming months.<lb /><lb /> oThe main goal right now is<lb />to expand the group, and to get<lb />students to become more knowl-<lb />edgeable, ? she said. oNo one will<lb />want to do anything unless they<lb />know something. ?<lb /><lb />Wrenn mentioned an even<lb />bigger goal in the future.<lb /><lb /> oHopefully, eventually, our<lb /><lb />sé INVISIBLE page A5<lb /><lb />The ECU Gospel Choir performs a number of concerts for both campus and local events throughout the year in a quest to spread joy and praise.<lb /><lb />center aisles.<lb /><lb />The dramatic entrance was<lb />strongly welcomed by the crowd,<lb />who cheered and applauded<lb />the introduction.<lb /><lb />Arturo Cummings, a member<lb />of the Gospel Choir thought that<lb />the anniversary being held on<lb />Palm Sunday had significance.<lb /><lb /> oAs Christians, we hold this<lb />time of year very dear to our<lb />hearts. Before halftime,<lb />the Pirates were already up by<lb />two against Barton College.<lb /><lb />Patty Pierce scored the first<lb />goal of the second half three min-<lb />utes into play. She headed the ball<lb />into the goal after a corner kick<lb />from the right side.<lb /><lb />Shortly after the goal by<lb />Pierce, Jessica Swanson con-<lb />nected on a breakaway shot with<lb />24 minutes left in regulation.<lb /><lb />ECU kept the offensive pres-<lb />sure on Barton. With 12 minutes<lb />left in the game, freshman Alexis<lb />Foltz made a strong kick at the<lb />goal, but the Barton goalie made<lb />a spectacular diving save.<lb /><lb />However, Foltz would continue<lb />to pursue. Two minutes later, she<lb />came back strong and got the ball<lb />by the Barton goalie.<lb /><lb />This capped off the Pirates<lb />barrage of goals.<lb /><lb />Seven seconds remained as<lb />Barton tried to prevent a shutout<lb />game, but was unsuccessful as Jen<lb />Kurowicki saved a goal. Continu-<lb />ous offensive pressure from the<lb />Pirates brought the final score to<lb />5-0, giving ECU its first victory<lb />of the day.<lb /><lb />The second game of the day<lb />was against Wingate University.<lb /><lb /> ECU opened up the second half<lb /><lb />leading Wingate, 1-0.<lb />Six minutes into the second<lb />half, Jami Dickerson corner<lb /><lb />kicked the ball from the right. It<lb />was deflected to Madison Keller,<lb />who headed the ball for ECU Ts<lb />second goal.<lb /><lb />Three minutes later, Nicole<lb />Moore ran after the ball and tried<lb />to gain control of it when she col-<lb />lided with the Wingate goalie.<lb />The Wingate goalie was down<lb />for about a minute after taking<lb />a strong blow to the head from<lb />Moore. Wingate was rewarded<lb />with an indirect penalty kick for<lb />the foul.<lb /><lb />In the 21 minutes left in the<lb />second half, Wingate scored on<lb />a long goal from the left side, to<lb />bring the score to 2-1.<lb /><lb />Four minutes later, ECU<lb />responded when Sarah Kirkley<lb />made a spin move and dished the<lb />ball to Caylin Sandke for another<lb />Pirate goal.<lb /><lb />With a little more than eight<lb />minutes left in the game, another<lb />Wingate player went down after<lb />an attempted goal.<lb /><lb />Kurowicki, tried to stop the<lb /><lb />breakaway goal and kicked the 3<lb /><lb />Wingate player in the stomach.<lb />The clock was stopped and a<lb />substitute was put in for the hurt<lb />Wingate player.<lb /><lb />The Pirates finished off the<lb />game defeating Wingate Uni-<lb />versity, 3-1.<lb /><lb /> oWins and losses don Tt really<lb />matter as much, ? said ECU Head<lb />Coach Rob Donnenwirth. oThe<lb />main thing is that we develop<lb />all of our players individually.<lb />During the spring, we have a dif-<lb />ferent mindset where we try play-<lb />ers in different positions. Today<lb />was a good day and I think they<lb />played well.<lb /><lb />Donnenwirth added, oI<lb />thought today was a good break-<lb />out day for freshman. Foltz and<lb />Swanson had very good days<lb />today. Now they already have a<lb /><lb />season under their belt. I treat the<lb /><lb />spring as a preseason for the fall<lb /><lb />The ECU women Ts soccer team held both Barton and Wingate in check<lb />on the offensive side of the ball, with minimal shots taken on goal.<lb /><lb />to make these players improve,<lb />recruit new players and hopefully<lb />be ready come fall. ?<lb /><lb />ECU Ts only loss of the spring<lb />season came against the Univer-<lb />sity of South Carolina about a<lb />month ago.<lb /><lb /> oI think we played some<lb />good teams this spring like Old<lb />Dominion, where it was a 0-0<lb />tie, and South Carolina which<lb />was. our only loss this spring. I<lb />think we learned a lot, ? said Don-<lb />nenwirth.<lb /><lb />The Pirates hope that their<lb />successful spring will give them<lb />some momentum heading into<lb />next fall.<lb /><lb /> oA lot of what we do in the<lb />spring leads into the summer and<lb />we try to leave a good taste in our<lb />mouths for the fall, ? said Keller.<lb /><lb />In the fall, the ECU women Ts<lb />soccer team will once again face<lb />some of the more challenging<lb />teams in the country.<lb /><lb />With this weekend Ts victories,<lb />a good taste in their mouths<lb /><lb /> will certainly be on the menu<lb /><lb />with improving tactics and team<lb /><lb />effort.<lb /><lb />This. writer can be contacted at<lb />sports@theeastcarolinian.com.<lb /><lb />Weekly Baseball Award<lb /><lb />SID<lb /><lb />TOUSLEY<lb /><lb />Tousley helped lead the<lb />Pirates to a comeback vic-<lb />tory over in-state rival UNC<lb />Wilmington last Wednesday<lb />night and to an 11-7 win<lb />on Sunday over C-USA foe<lb />Tulane.
