Driving time<lb />from the Louisville airport to Bardstown is approximately 45 minutes. HERTZ is offering<lb />weekend rates to Outdoor Drama Conference delegates. Rates range from $15 for a compact to<lb />$20 for a full-size, 4-door, with unlimited mileage. To reserve a car, call 1-800-654-2240 and refer<lb />to meeting number 9468. Other rental car companies serving the Louisville airport include<lb />Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, National, Thrifty, and Sears.<lb /><lb />Upon arrival at The Holiday Inn in Bardstown, please stop by the Conference Desk to pick up<lb />your registration folder. This will contain the full program schedule, announcements, special<lb /><lb />information, meal tickets and a nametag. The Conference Desk will be open for check-in from<lb />3:00-5:00pm on Thursday, October 24, and from 8:30am to noon on Friday, October 25. The first<lb />Conference session will begin at 4:00pm on Thursday, October 24.<lb /><lb />Company reps are encouraged to bring a large supply of souvenir programs, brochures, and other<lb />promotional materials for distribution at the Conference.<lb /><lb />Both the Friday morning tour of Talbott Amphitheatre and the Saturday tour of area attractions<lb />will take place rain or shine. The Friday lunch and afternoon panel sessions scheduled in the<lb />open-air Rotunda will be moved to the Civic Center in case of bad weather. Bus transportation<lb />will be provided for all events in Bardstown.<lb /><lb />Additional tickets for the Thursday night Kentucky dinner ($12.55) and the Saturday night<lb />banquet ($15.00) should be ordered in advance. Tickets will also be available at the Conference<lb />Desk on Thursday, October 24, from 3:00-5:00pm, and on Friday, October 25, from 8:30am until<lb />noon.         <p>&amp; Continuing Education<lb />y \ JN Opportunities at UNC-Chapel Hill<lb /><lb />a Basic Economic Development Course<lb />The 20th BEDC will be held at The William and Ida Friday Continuing Education Center in Chapel<lb />Hill, February 23-28, 1992. This one-week course is designed to serve new full- or part-time<lb />professionals and individuals contemplating entering the economic development field. It is also<lb />appropriate for volunteers and professionals from related fields such as planning, real estate, finance,<lb />and transportation.<lb /><lb />Topics covered include: a systematic approach to economic development, economic and locational<lb />trends, the industrial location process, local resources, promotion and prospecting techniques, strategic<lb />planning, managing the economic development office, and taxation and incentives. Participation in<lb />case studies, simulation exercises, and a tour of the nearby Research Triangle Park enhance the<lb />classroom experience.<lb /><lb />The course is accredited by the American Economic Development Council and endorsed by the Southern<lb />Industrial Development Council and the Industrial Developer�?Ts Associations of North Carolina, South<lb />Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia, and awards 3.5 continuing education units (CEUs).<lb /><lb />a. Arts Management Institute<lb />Developed in cooperation with the leadership of North Carolina�?Ts statewide arts agencies, the Arts<lb />Management Institute provides professional training for staff and board members of arts and cultural<lb />organizations. Volunteers and prospective arts administrators are also encouraged to attend.<lb /><lb />During the week-long program, experienced arts management professionals lead sessions on<lb />organizational mission, strategic planning, leadership, communication, minority development, public<lb />relations, marketing, finance, and funding.
