<p>THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA<lb />AT<lb />CHAPEL HILL<lb /><lb />Institute of Outdoor Drama The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill<lb />(919) 962-1328 CB# 3240, NCNB Plaza<lb />Chapel Hill, N.C. 27599-3240<lb /><lb />August 27, 1991<lb /><lb />Mr. Ed Henson<lb /><lb />Director, Recreational and Historic Sites<lb />Kentucky Department of Parks<lb /><lb />Capitol Plaza Tower - 12th Floor<lb />Frankfort, KY 40601<lb /><lb />Dear Mr. Henson:<lb />I was delighted to learn from Carlene Offutt of The Stephen Foster Story that you<lb /><lb />will be able to join us for dinner and offer a few words of wisdom at the<lb />National Outdoor Drama Conference, Saturday evening, October 26, in Bardstown.<lb /><lb />As Carlene may have told you, we expect the conference to include producers,<lb />directors, playwrights, composers and promoters from 20-25 states, all of whom<lb /><lb />will be participating in workshops, panel sessions and local tours. The<lb />highlight of the conference will be the opportunity to see first-hand the<lb />operations of The Stephen Foster Story, long considered one of the nation??Ts<lb />premiere outdoor dramas.<lb /><lb />Many of the participants attending the conference will be representing dramas<lb />located on state park property. Theirs is a unique relationship and I know they<lb />will be pleased to meet you and to learn about the close connection your<lb />department has with the three Kentucky outdoor dramas also located in state<lb />parks. In fact, we have taken the liberty to refer to your remarks as "The State<lb />Park/Outdoor Drama Connection."<lb /><lb />We are also very fortunate to have with us at the dinner Nancy Johnson Barker and<lb />Blake Barker, who will perform a wonderful selection of traditional Appalachian<lb />folksongs immediately following your remarks. That being the case, I should<lb />think your comments would best fit a 15-minute time period. Hope that suits you.<lb /><lb />I am enclosing an in-house copy of the conference schedule to give you some idea<lb />of the scope of the meeting. You will receive the official conference brochure<lb />in early September.<lb /><lb /></p>

<p>Meanwhile, we look forward to having you with us for the banquet from 7:30pm<lb />until 9:00pm, Saturday, October 26, at The Holiday Inn in Bardstown. If you can<lb />break free to come over before the dinner, we would be especially pleased to have<lb /><lb />you as our guest during a social hour from 6:30pm to 7:30pm, also in The Holiday<lb />Inn.<lb /><lb />Thanks again for your willingness to be with us.<lb /><lb /></p>
