        <p>UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA<lb />AT<lb />CHAPEL HILL<lb /><lb />July 31 5 1990 The University of North Carolina at<lb />CB# 3240, NCNB Plaza<lb />Chapel Hill, N.C. 27899-3240<lb /><lb />Dr. Robert Britton<lb />1718 Catalpa Drive<lb />Dayton, OH 45406<lb /><lb />Dear Bob:<lb /><lb />This is to officially invite you to serve as moderator of a<lb />panel on the program of the Annual Managers, Directors and<lb />Promoters Conference of the Institute of Outdoor Drama. The<lb />Conference is scheduled for October 5, 6, and 7, 1990, and<lb />will be held in Cherokee, NC, home of UNTO THESE HILLS<lb />outdoor drama.<lb /><lb />As you know, this Conference is the only national gathering<lb />of professionals in the field of outdoor historical drama and<lb />is attended by company representatives from across the<lb />country. It is an important meeting and one which I know<lb />will greatly benefit from your participation.<lb /><lb />The panel you will chair is tentatively entitled "Open Forum:<lb />The Planning and Development of an Outdoor Historical Drama."<lb />It is scheduled for Saturday, October 6, from 1:30pm until<lb />3:Q0am I have written to the following individuals asking<lb />if they will serve with you as members:<lb /><lb />Mr. Don Baker, Director 703-463-7088<lb />Lime Kiln Arts, Inc.<lb /><lb />Box 663<lb /><lb />Lexington, VA 24450<lb /><lb />Mr. Billy Edd Wheeler 704-686-3438<lb />Composer/Playwright<lb /><lb />P.O. Box 7<lb /><lb />Swannanoa, NC 28778<lb /><lb />Mr. Carl T. Hayden, President 607-732-2152<lb />Mark Twain Arts Council, Inc.<lb /><lb />P.O. Box 265<lb /><lb />Elmira, NY 14902<lb /><lb />Ms. Melanie Patterson 816-532-0803<lb />General Manager<lb /><lb />THE LIFE AND TIMES OF JESSE JAMES<lb /><lb />Route 2, Box 120<lb /><lb />Smithville, MO 64089<lb /><lb /></p>
        <pb facs="00056187_0002" />
        <p>As soon as I get a response from those folks, I will let you<lb />know and you can take over the organization and planning of<lb />the panel at that point.<lb /><lb />The idea behind this panel is to offer advice and respond to<lb />questions from those individuals who are in the process of<lb />developing new outdoor dramas. I think it would be best if<lb />each panel member briefly address a specific area of the<lb />development process, perhaps provide some background on his<lb />or her own involvement with a specific drama, and then turn<lb />the meeting over to questions and answers. Questions and<lb />answers should be the bulk of the session.<lb /><lb />Areas your panel members might address include:<lb /><lb />Community Relations<lb /><lb />Capital Development<lb /><lb />Site Requirements<lb /><lb />Organization of the Association<lb />Story Identification/Playwrighting<lb /><lb />Bob, because we°ve only recently determined the site for the<lb />Conference, we°re now on the fast track to nail down all<lb />elements of the meeting. That being the case, I am<lb />considering your commitment to me over the telephone this<lb />morning to be firm and am counting on you. We go to press<lb /><lb />~ with the program very soon now.<lb /><lb />I°m delighted you can chair this very important program<lb />during the Conference and I know you will do your usual<lb />excellent job with it. You should receive a Conference<lb />brochure, including pre-registration form, in early<lb />September. In the meantime, if you have any questions,<lb />please give me a call.<lb /><lb />Thanks again.<lb /><lb />Scott J. Parker<lb />Director<lb /><lb /></p>
