        <p>William F. Hensley is a veteran travel industry executive with<lb />local, state, national and international connections. A native of<lb />Asheville and a graduate of Wake Forest University, he now resides in<lb />Charlotte and Banner Elk, NC. He began as a newspaper reporter for<lb />the Asheville Citizen and served as an FBI agent for two years before<lb />embarking upon a career in the North Carolina Travel and Tourism<lb />Division. A noted lecturer and author, Mr. Hensley conducts frequent<lb />seminars and workshops on media relations, crisis management and<lb />publicity, and is currently national secretary/treasurer of the Society of<lb />American Travel Writers.<lb /><lb />Alvin H. Reiss is an internationally-known writer, lecturer, and<lb />consultant on the arts who has played a major and innovative role in<lb />furthering understanding and cooperation between the arts and business.<lb />The author of Culture and Company (1972), The Arts Management<lb />Handbook (1974, rev. ed.), The Arts Management Reader (1979) and<lb />Cash In! Funding and Promoting the Arts (1986), he has written<lb />extensively on the arts and business for leading consumer and corporate<lb />publications and has developed pioneer programs in both fields. He is<lb />editor and publisher of Arts Management, the first national journal for<lb />cultural arts administrators, which he co-founded in 1962. In 1986, he<lb />was awarded the International Society of Performing Arts<lb />Administrators Distinguished Service Award for �?oexceptional service to<lb />the performing arts as innovator, author, publisher and educator.�?�<lb /><lb />Registration and Fees<lb /><lb />The registration fee for the conference is $85.00. Pre-registration by<lb />mail or phone is requested by October 5, 1989. The registration fee<lb /><lb />includes the Friday banquet and Saturday cookout. Planning<lb />Group Session A will look at the key issues of organization,<lb />fundraising sources and methods, and amphitheatre design and<lb />construction. Planning Group Session B will focus on play<lb />production, including discussion of technical requirements, casting, and<lb />rehearsal.<lb /><lb />The general conference will convene on Friday afternoon and run<lb />through Saturday evening. Three half-day workshops will be offered by<lb />experts in their respective fields.<lb /><lb />Scott J. Parker, executive director and acting producer of The Lost<lb />Colony (Manteo, NC) will lead a workshop on �?oImproving Production<lb />Quality in Outdoor Historical Drama.�?� Assisted by key artistic staff<lb />members from The Lost Colony, the workshop will examine elements<lb />found in artistically successful shows and discuss how to better<lb />incorporate those elements in outdoor drama productions today.<lb /><lb />William F. Hensley, public relations/marketing consultant and former<lb />director of the North Carolina Division of Travel and Tourism, will<lb />join us to conduct a workshop on �?oWorking Effectively with the<lb />Media,�?� including how to be interviewed, how to build credibility, and<lb />how to handle a crisis.<lb /><lb />Alvin H.
