Homecoming activities will<lb />

By KAY TYNDALL<lb />

With all the busy preparation this past week<lb />
loi the weekend's Homecoming activities,<lb />
greeks across campus have had a pretty full<lb />
schcduli Between studying foi mid-terms all<lb />
week sorority women and fraternity men have<lb />
been busily preparing the house decorations<lb />
and floats on display this weekend<lb />
On oee.isions such as this, one hardly has<lb />
I'nie lo stand back and evaluate the<lb />
effectiveness of a strong gieek system such as<lb />
the one on the II campus But in lakmg the<lb />
lime lo do so. it becomes obvious that greek<lb />
participation will highlighi many ol the<lb />
Homecoming activities<lb />
EFFECTIVE SYSTEM<lb />
Bui what perhaps is less often noticed and<lb />
should he more emphatically stiessed is the<lb />
effectiveness ol an entire greek system pulling<lb />
togethei Each sorority and halemily has<lb />
greatly contributed to the overall excellent<lb />
representation ol gieeks in the homecoming<lb />
jciiv ities<lb />
Individually, each gieek organization has<lb />
Worked long, haul hours on floats and house<lb />
decorations to create a panoramic and artistic<lb />
display oi school spun in, the Homecoming<lb />
game<lb />
In making iheu different displays, many<lb />
soronties .ind fraternities have joined efforts<lb />
and talents in oidei to create an impressive<lb />
display ami to reduce the work involved al the<lb />
same time.<lb />
COOPERATION<lb />
It individual gieek organizations were more<lb />
coi erned with selfish pride than with the<lb />
ei eat ion ot.n. impressive Homecoming display.<lb />
this combined efTorl and cooperation would be<lb />
futile and impossible<lb />
Anothci less obvious example ol the<lb />
cooperative efforts ol greeks in Homecoming<lb />
activities is the large numbei ol greeks from all<lb />
fraternities and sororities who have been<lb />
helping to accomplish the work that goes on<lb />
behind the scenes oi festive parades, beauty<lb />
contests, and homecoming entertainment. I<lb />
refei to those greeks who have been putting in<lb />
long hours oi effort on Iccoming<lb />
committees, election committees, and populai<lb />
entertainment committees.<lb />
These are the people who have forsaken leep<lb />
and valuable study time to help attend to all<lb />
the minute details of getting these ictivities<lb />
organized and running smoothly so that the<lb />
student body may sit back and enjoy the<lb />
weekend's events.<lb />
Furthermore, alui attendance will be<lb />
strong at Homecoming events throughout the<lb />
weekend Many oi these alumni are also<lb />
alumni. Each greek organization will be greeting<lb />
and entertaining then alumni during the<lb />
weekend with banquets, receptions, and open<lb />
houses. This also means extra effort on the pan<lb />
ol all gieeks on campus, but these events will be<lb />
welcomed extras foi those alumni who are<lb />
forme I greeks<lb />
Finally, as always, the gieek organizations on<lb />
campus will be leading the spirited campaign<lb />
foi an ECU victory in the Homecoming game<lb />
WEEKEND INVOLVEMENT<lb />
Each organization within the gieek svsiem<lb />
will be working not only to exemplify the spirit<lb />
ol that fraternity oi sorority in lull fort<lb />
also greeks llus weekend will he joining in a<lb />
ullve and dy n.i"ik efforl lo promi<lb />
revival ol the si hool spun whit h h i<lb />

I I games<lb />
It is this kind ol cooperation and interest<lb />
Within the gieek system by each meek<lb />
organization foi the others and by greeks in<lb />
general foi the entire student body which<lb />
perpetuates and reinforces the strength i I<lb />
present gieek s stem at I (I<lb />
I hope this spun and concern will continue<lb />
not only throughout this Homco<lb />
weekend, bul throughout the entile St<lb />

should encourage a new interest in all students<lb />
foi the promotion oi a revived i ampai<lb />

which the South Carolina game drew two weeks earliei<lb />
Ami I am sure that a lot ol the 28.350 that poured<lb />

supporters<lb />
This game brought our attendance total for the year<lb />
to 83,918, compared to the 75,837 the Pirates drew in<lb />
all their nine games last eat<lb />
01 course, Ohio State and some of the othet Big ren<lb />
schools top this total at nearly every home game they<lb />
