and "skillful and ferocious" by<lb />

the story of the senseless patriot-<lb />

youths. Hastily drafted into the<lb />
Nazi army in the last two days<lb />

the death 0f Cheeillard, Paray<lb />
became principal conductor,<lb />
k H28 Paray became conductor<lb />

ied Concerts Colotme, came to<lb />
; and said,<lb />

In 1932 Paray succeeded<lb />
Pierne, holding the post of<lb />
conductor actively until his<lb />
Detroit appointment in 1951,<lb />
and ex-officio until 1955. In<lb />
this period he was called on<lb />
again and again to conduct<lb />
Wagnerian works, a specialty<lb />
at the Paris Opera,<lb />
After World War I Paray's re-<lb />
lation as a composer grew, his<lb />
most notable contributions being<lb />
Adonis Perturbed three sym-<lb />
phonies, a piano concerto, an ora-<lb />
torio, and many smaller works.<lb />
Paray was one of the first<lb />
of many important French<lb />
artists to join the under-<lb />
ground movement of his coun-<lb />
try in World War II. A target<lb />
for the Nazis for refusing to<lb />
name the Jewish members of<lb />
his Concerto Coloitne, Paray<lb />
went into voluntary exile. He<lb />
directed the opera of Monte<lb />
Carlo until his liberation at<lb />
the invitation of Prince Louis<lb />
II. Paray's triumphant return<lb />
to his beloved Paris at the end<lb />
of the war was historic and<lb />
inspiring.<lb />
Paray made his American debut<lb />
July 24, 1938, with the Philhar-<lb />
monic Symphony Orchestra at<lb />
New York's Stadium Concerts.<lb />
Since 1948 he has conducted the<lb />

Pittsburg, and Cincinnati. In the<lb />
summer of 1957 he conducted a<lb />
series of concerts in Philadelphia<lb />
aaid opened the summer series at<lb />
the Hollywood Bowl, Los Angles.<lb />
Paray's history is impressive<lb />

Token of this came in 1950 when<lb />
he joined the list of French "im-<lb />

If we're not intact today, we can be satisfied that all<lb />
our problems are solved by coming- to an untimely end. No<lb />

7<lb />
To the Editor:<lb />
In reply to the letter signed<lb />
"Sore Sisters East Carolinian Jan-<lb />
uary 26. 1962) I would like to take<lb />
ithis opportunity to explain the<lb />
procedure which we followed dur-<lb />
ing Forma1 Rush week because it<lb />
is perfectly obvious that the "Sore<lb />
Sisters do not know nor do they<lb />
understand how the Sororities are<lb />
supposed to function during Form-<lb />
al Rush.<lb />
Yes, the Panhellenic system of<lb />
quota-limitation during Formal<lb />
Rush is fair! The -Rush Committee,<lb />
composed of the Panhellenic Rush<lb />
Chairman and the Rush Chairmen<lb />
from each of .the eight Soronities,<lb />
formulate and draw up the rules<lb />
which govern formal rush.<lb />
A temporary quota for the Sor-<lb />
orities is set-up. This quota has<lb />
to be changed because there will<lb />
be a number of girls that will not<lb />
attend the first series of parties.<lb />
Taken from the Rush Committee<lb />
notespart 3. "Do not establish<lb />
quota until after the first parties"<lb />
because all Sororities have to wait<lb />
and see the exact number of girls<lb />
come through the first round of<lb />
parties. Again from the notes<lb />
"Adjust quota after the second<lb />
round of (parties" because the total<lb />
number of girls coming through<lb />
the second round of parties will be<lb />
less than the first round of par-<lb />
ties.<lb />
Why can Sororities on this cam-<lb />
pus be urn-equal? Because The<lb />
East Carolina College Panhellenic<lb />
Constitution statesQuota Limita-<lb />
tions<lb />
1There shall be a quota-limita-<lb />
tion system, The quota shall be<lb />
established by dividing the num-<lb />

Your 'statement about Panhellen-<lb />

Council or Rush Committee is<lb />
very unfair and incorrect. The<lb />
"Sore Sisters" were a bit pre-<lb />
mature when they said that the<lb />
.advisor had changed the quota. At<lb />
the time that such news appeared<lb />
in the East Carolinian the quota<lb />
had not been established. It was<lb />
determined at a meeting of the<lb />
Rush Chairman with all eight Sor-<lb />
orities represented at 4:00 o'clock<lb />
on Friday afternoon, January 26,<lb />
1962.<lb />
Why ibe sore, or justly accuse<lb />

which was agreed up by all eight<lb />

Fair damsel, notice sometime in<lb />
the noise of the cafeteria, the<lb />
