From The President<lb />
We are happy to welcome every one of<lb />
u new students.<lb />
You, of course, are here for different<lb />
reasons. Some were sent while others were<lb />
motivated by various objectives not the least<lb />
of which is social. 1 trust you will be with<lb />
us for four years but if you are, work must<lb />
begin immediately and continue throughout<lb />
your college career.<lb />
Too many students enter college with<lb />
the id a of coasting and then regretfully<lb />
lament their waywardness when notified<lb />
that they are no longer in good standing.<lb />
Now. why do I tell you this at the beginning?<lb />
It is to impress upon you the idea of devel-<lb />
oping a purpose for your life's work, and in<lb />
doing this make a schedule of your time that<lb />
will include a planned program to develop<lb />
yourselves socially, spiritually, aesthetically,<lb />
civically, physically and intellectually, in-<lb />
eluding preparation for a profession or vo-<lb />
cation.<lb />
Your college is interested in helping to<lb />
motivate you in the development of the<lb />
principles of honor, strength, service, quality<lb />
and preparation for earning a living. We<lb />
desire you to realize that you are one of a<lb />
cooperative community and that you will<lb />
give of your best to every worthwhile en-<lb />
deavor. This is your dressing room for the<lb />
drama that is to follow.<lb />
If you haven't already decided upon<lb />
ir life's work be sure to evaluate your<lb />
aptitudes and interests and then select your<lb />
curriculum accordingly. Get a vision of what<lb />
you want to be ten or fifteen years from now<lb />
and work toward it. There are vast possi-<lb />
bilities as elementary teachers, secondary<lb />
teachers, librarians, special education teach-<lb />
ers, social welfare workers, dietitians, home<lb />
demonstration, medical doctors, dentists, en-<lb />
gineers, scientists, architects, etc. However,<lb />
m the fieid of secondary teaching, social<lb />
studies. English and health and physical<lb />
education, positions are at times pretty dif-<lb />
ficult to find.<lb />
Finally, may I advise that you approach<lb />
your counselor often as well as your teach-<lb />
ers, the deans or anyone else whom you<lb />
should want to help you, as they will be<lb />
happy to assist you in any way possible. I,<lb />
too, shall be very happy to help you in any<lb />
way I can. But in parting, may I again ad-<lb />
that you alone can assure the results<lb />
that are necessary for success.<lb />

Fellow Students:<lb />
The many "welcomes" you have re-<lb />
ceived cannot adequately express the true<lb />
feeling of East Carolina College. As the<lb />
months roll on, we hope you will come to<lb />
realize that these words of welcome reallv<lb />
represent the friendliness and fellowship on<lb />
our campus of which we are so proud.<lb />
By taking an active part in the Student<lb />
Government Association which is the key to<lb />
most college activities, you may receive<lb />
many benefits. Our college clubs, our enter-<lb />
tainment series, the annual, newspaper and<lb />
many others operate through the SGA to<lb />
the advantage of the student and college.<lb />
We feel sure that your love for the col-<lb />
lege will immeasurably grow during your<lb />
time here and make you proud to say, you<lb />
are from East Carolina College.<lb />
Sincerely yours,<lb />
Mitchell Saieed<lb />

From The Registrar<lb />
Dear Student Body:<lb />
I wish to take this opportunity to wel-<lb />
come to our campus all new students, as well<lb />
as those who have returned for another<lb />
year's work.<lb />
I also wish to commend the entire stu-<lb />
dent body for tne cooperation and fine spirit<lb />
which was displayed during the very busy<lb />
days of registration. Especially do I want<lb />
to thank all upperclassmen who so gra-<lb />
ciously helped the new students complete<lb />
therir registration. I feel that this registra-<lb />
tion was the best ever, and its success was<lb />
due largely to your cooperation. If you have<lb />
any suggestions as to how we might im-<lb />
prove our registration period, I would be<lb />
most happy to talk to you about them.<lb />
If you run into difficulties with your<lb />
curriculum, please feel free to come into my<lb />
office for advice. I am always glad to help<lb />
you la any way that I can. However, it is<lb />
my itaeere wish that your problems and dif-<lb />
ficulties will be few and your life at East<lb />
Carolina College wifl be both enjoyable and<lb />
worthwhile.<lb />

Freshman Girl<lb />
Voices Opinion<lb />
Of First Days<lb />
by Marilyn Scott<lb />
Dear Mom.<lb />
I'm a Full-fledged freshman again.<lb />
That's the horrible part of going to<lb />
college after being a great big high<lb />
school senior jusl a few short months<lb />
ago. i certainly do feel small.<lb />
I've lost count of the times the<lb />
buildings up here have moved around<lb />
90 that my dormitory seems to be<lb />
in a different direction every time<lb />
I return from points far distant (or<lb />
even close by) on the campus.<lb />
You remember how the furniture<lb />
in my room was scattered from one<lb />
end to the other. We've rearranged<lb />
it five times to date and at present<lb />
the arrangement more closely re-<lb />
sembles the BCC Pirates' forward<lb />
wall about to crash into Elon's line<lb />
than anytldng else. It's all strung<lb />
out with a six-foot-plus chest hem-<lb />
ming in each end, two bedside tables<lb />
at guard, the beds ready in the tackle<lb />
positions and the desk holds my<lb />
typewriter at center. We have plenty<lb />
of floor space for the hackfield<lb />
(formed by our sihoes and the waste-<lb />
baskel at fullback.)<lb />
I just can't wait for football season<lb />
to start, though my blue and white<lb />
high ec lool football wardrobe will<lb />
have to be replaced by some purple<lb />
and gold duds so I'll be patriotically<lb />
costumed at the games.<lb />
The food's just wonderful and we're<lb />
so much hungrier for it after waiting<lb />
in line sevi ral hours. No, I'm just<lb />
kidding, I haven't had to wait over<lb />
an houryet.<lb />
I thought it was rather a difficult<lb />
task to figure out what I should take,<lb />
when, and under what professor, but<lb />
it was only after I had sweated over<lb />
my registration for two hours that<lb />
I discovered that you can get a<lb />
faculty advisor to help you fig-ure<lb />
out such minor details as what classes<lb />
you uld attend, when and where.<lb />
   testing program so<lb />
Fully provided the college to<lb />
test our aptitude, our mentality and<lb />
oui personality was lots of fun. at<lb />
east foj those of us so morbidly<lb />
. as to get enjoyment from<lb />
hing up weird figures, symbols<lb />
letter- and arriving at brilliant<lb />
conclusions from the results.<lb />
T le upperclassmen already here on<lb />
campus certainly are hel'pful to us<lb />
freshmen. Why, one hoy even<lb />
offered to go along and lead me by<lb />
the hand to some distant building.<lb />
Wasn't that self-sacrificing of him<lb />
when he was no doubt getting some<lb />
much needed rest out in the middle<lb />
e campus?<lb />
All in all I'm sure I'm going to<lb />
like college life even if I do have to<lb />
get up at seven o'clock every morn-<lb />
ing if I want any breakfast.<lb />
I must close, but please forward<lb />
by the next mail some money, the<lb />
box of clothes I left behind acci-<lb />
dentally and my toothbrush.<lb />
Lovingly,<lb />

Who's Who At East Carolina<lb />
by Emily Boyce<lb />
For this first edition of the "East<lb />
Carolinian" our choice of "Who's<lb />
Who" is a fellow whom we all know.<lb />
He i3 quite a familiar figure around<lb />
the campus and is said to practically<lb />
live in the basement of Austin Build-<lb />
i-ng. One person summed him up in<lb />
these terms, "That Billy Laughing-<lb />
house is smart, and he's a grand<lb />
guy, too<lb />
Billy is Greenville born and bred<lb />
and chose East Carolina College sim-<lb />
ply because "it's the greatest He<lb />
attended Greenville High School and<lb />
there became interested in student<lb />
government work and his major now,<lb />
social studies. Although Billy is a<lb />
social studies major and an English<lb />
minor keeps him busy, he has found<lb />
time during his three years in college<lb />
to develop quite a record in student<lb />
government work. He is also a mem-<lb />
ber of a number of campus organiza-<lb />
tions and takes an active interest in<lb />
each of them.<lb />
Active Worker<lb />
During Billy's freshman and soph-<lb />
omore years he served as a member<lb />
of the Day Students At Large. Tak-<lb />
ing quite an interest in the ROTC<lb />
program, he played with the drum<lb />
and bugle corps for three years and<lb />
enjoyed every minute of it (so he<lb />
says).<lb />
The Circle "K" Club is made up<lb />
of men who are considered to have<lb />
the qualities of leadership, scholar-<lb />
ship, and citizenship at East Caro-<lb />
lina. Billy lias been a member of the<lb />
Circle "K" for two years and has<lb />
helped the club put on a number of<lb />
campus activities. Our Greenville boy<lb />
Billy Laughinghouse<lb />
has been an active member of the<lb />
Phi Sigma Pi fraternity during his<lb />
sophomore, junior and now his senior<lb />
year. The fraternity is an honorary<lb />
educational fraternity exclusively for<lb />
young men preparing to enter the<lb />
teaching profession. Billy served as<lb />
corresponding secretary in his junior<lb />
year. Good moral and social qualities<lb />
are the basis for admittance into<lb />
the fraternity and Billy takes pride<lb />
in being a member.<lb />
Billy's entrance into Student Gov-<lb />
ernment work occurred during his<lb />
junior year. While a junior he filled<lb />
the position of first assistant treas-<lb />
urer on the Student Legislature. Now<lb />
in Billy's senior year he has taken<lb />
the job of treat er. This important<lb />
position includes such duties as tak-<lb />
ing Charge of all fees collected by<lb />
the Student Government Association,<lb />
,emg in charge of the Budget office,<lb />
serving as chairman of the budget<lb />
committee and having a seat OB the<lb />
extcutive council. Even with all the<lb />
important duties he fills, Billy doesn't<lb />
rngbi his work on his first kve,<lb />
hocial . tudies.<lb />
Hobby Economics<lb />
Billy's real hobby is the study of<lb />
economics. He takes all the courses<lb />
possible in that field and says b<lb />
ikes every word of it. Billy's schwi-<lb />
ll doesn't leave him much time to<lb />
devote to sports, but he's on the<lb />
Front row at every football game.<lb />
Billy will graduate in May and<lb />
afttr that, who knows Uncle Sam<lb />
will probably call on Billy's talents<lb />
for a few years, but Billy says he<lb />
has to practice teach first. According<lb />
to Billy his practice teaching holds<lb />
no real fears for him. The idea of<lb />
being called Mr. Laughinghouse real-<lb />
ly doesn't appeal to him, but he says<lb />
he will certainly get used to it.<lb />
As many of us are. Billy is im-<lb />
pressed with the rapid growth of his<lb />
college. He says he can tell a great<lb />
deal of difference since his freshman<lb />
vear and this year. Billy is prou 1<lb />
of the changes and improvements<lb />
which have been made in his school<lb />
since he's even been here. The satis-<lb />
faction of doing well at East Caro-<lb />
lina is an achievement to be proud of.<lb />
And Billy Laughinghouse, you have<lb />
done well during your years here and<lb />
we are proud of you. Best of luck<lb />
during your senior year.<lb />

Message To Members<lb />
Time for work is here, not only<lb />
for members of the student body of<lb />
East Carolina college, but for grad-<lb />

alumni chapter or members at large<lb />
of the General Alumni association.<lb />
One phase of alumni work will<lb />
consist of keeping James W. Butler,<lb />
our alumni secretary, informed of all<lb />
chapter activities that will be con-<lb />

"East Carolinian Whether you are<lb />
a member of a chapter or not keep<lb />

James L. Whitfield<lb />
State President<lb />
Alumni Association<lb />
The loud shriek of a whistle at 4<lb />
o'clock started the morning off for<lb />
approximately 100 East Carolina Air<lb />
Force Reserve Officers Training<lb />
Corps cadets who were enrolled at<lb />
one of three summer encampments<lb />
for one month during the summer.<lb />
At the dreaded sound of the whis-<lb />
tle, all the cadets would by some<lb />
sought out force manage to roll over<lb />
in their sunk-in bunks and pry their<lb />
eyelids open. A few moments of just<lb />
staring into space usually followed,<lb />
and then everyone finally managed<lb />
to arise and begin the day's head-<lb />
aches.<lb />
Rushing to the latrine, everyone<lb />
washed the sleep from their still<lb />
weary eyes and tried to say "good<lb />
morning" to a few of their friends.<lb />
Then came the time to make beds,<lb />
wash and dust woodwork, scrub<lb />
floors, polish shoes, line up the cloth-<lb />
ing in the closets, and other small<lb />
technicalities.<lb />
If the cadet wa.s lucky, he had all<lb />
the little necessities completed by<lb />
4:50 a.m. and was dressed and ready<lb />
to fall in for the first formation.<lb />
Most of the cadets felt more like<lb />
falling out than in, for at 4:50 in<lb />
the morning it was still dark, believe<lb />
it or not.<lb />
Such early hours as the ones being<lb />
described above were unheard of at<lb />
Tyndall and Brookley Air Force<lb />
Bases, but the boys who survived<lb />
Moody Air Force Base in the heart<lb />
of Okefenokee Swamp near Valdosta,<lb />
Ga know all about marching in the<lb />
dark and not being able to see the<lb />
men on the end of a line. There were<lb />
days when all the cadets of a certain<lb />
group would play Softball, swim, or<lb />
engage in a volley ball game at the<lb />
wee hours of the morning. Some of<lb />
the future officers were complaining<lb />
by Tommie Lupton<lb />
about their needing to be lights up,<lb />
but their gripes were unheard.<lb />
All the aforementioned work and<lb />
exercise was done on an empty stom-<lb />
ach, for chow was not until about<lb />
6:45 and as late as 7:30 for some<lb />
of the unfortunate souls. When the<lb />
cadets finally reached the mess hall,<lb />
there was always food aplenty, and<lb />
any cadet who dined at camp can<lb />
truthfully tell anyone about the<lb />
quantity of food consumed by every-<lb />
one.<lb />
Excluding having to stand in line<lb />
in the 90-plus temperature in the<lb />
mess hall and the swarms of gnats<lb />
flying all over the place, the food<lb />
was good on the whole. However,<lb />
there were times when one would<lb />
wonder how perfectly good food could<lb />
be cooked to taste so terrible. But<lb />
everyone lived, and many cadets gain-<lb />
ed weight.<lb />
There was quite a bit of work<lb />
done at the various encampments.<lb />
All the rooms in the barracks were<lb />
inspected one, and sometimes two<lb />
or three times daily, and at mail<lb />
call nearly everyone received a slip<lb />
telling how many demerits were giv-<lb />
en for the inspection.<lb />
None of the cadets were free of<lb />
demerits, for the technical officers<lb />
did not wish for anyone to feel<lb />
slighted. Therefore, demerits were<lb />
given to everyone, though there were<lb />
some who received them in greater<lb />
quantity.<lb />
For those unfortunate souls who<lb />
received the quantity, there were<lb />
tours to be marched off on Saturday<lb />
afternoon. Boys walking tours at<lb />
Moody had to walk 20 minutes for<lb />
each demerit over ten. The first<lb />
weekend there were about 100 cadets<lb />
of the 231 in camp assembled on the<lb />
drill field walking off demerits under<lb />

by Emily Boyce<lb />
"Why you have everything in such<lb />
abundance here in America<lb />
This was one of the first things<lb />
that impressed Leonor E. Padilla, the<lb />
foreign exchange student on campus<lb />
for this year. Leonor is from La<lb />

A safety sign read"SchoolDon't<lb />

Leonor was impressed with the<lb />

She also likes our king size cigar-<lb />

Our exchange student is 22 years<lb />

She has been teaching grades one,<lb />

Miss Padilla plans a full schedule<lb />
for this year. Learning our educa-<lb />

main objectives for her. Leonor wants<lb />
to become familiar with everything<lb />
possible so she can go back and con-<lb />
tribute her knowledge to the educa-<lb />
tional system of her country. English,<lb />
education psychology, music, typing,<lb />
history and swimming are just a few<lb />
of the courses Leonor wants to take.<lb />
and comes to us under the college She considers music her real hobby,<lb />
and since she plays by ear, her musi-<lb />
cal education will be extremely in-<lb />
teresting to her.<lb />
Leonor will help us a great deal<lb />
this year, for she plans to assist in<lb />
Spanish conversation in the classroom.<lb />
According to Mr. Fleming and Mrs.<lb />
Perry she will also offer valuable aid"<lb />
in English and Spanish word study.<lb />
One of Miss Padilla's main interests<lb />
is the English language. Leonor<lb />
studied English with a determina-<lb />
tion to be admired and she speaks it<lb />
extremely well.<lb />
All of East Carolina College wel-<lb />
comes you, Leonor E. Pailla; we know<lb />
we will like you as much a you<lb />
like our country and campus. Please<lb />
don't hesitate to call on any one of<lb />

Day.<lb />
Demerits were sometimes given<lb />
out for doing what you were sup-<lb />
posed to be doing, according to some<lb />
of the cadets. All the boys will r xdi-<lb />
ly agree that life at summer camp<lb />
was strictly cadet in every respect.<lb />
Classroom sessions of the various<lb />
phases of the work of the Air Force<lb />
were attended from the hours of<lb />
0800 through 1700, with an hour off<lb />
for show and an hour for mail call<lb />
and "free time That "free time"<lb />
was a joke with all the beya for<lb />
the first couple of weeks.<lb />
At "free time" such chores as<lb />
policing the grounds, scrubbing down<lb />
the latrine, washing windows, and<lb />
cleaning the ventilators in the hall<lb />
were done. Some of the barracks<lb />
were even restricted at night, and<lb />
all had to stay close to do various<lb />
duties.<lb />
After hours were usually spent in<lb />
the sack, at the day room, or at the<lb />
Officers' Club. Girls at East Carolina<lb />
think they have it bad. Well, get<lb />
these restrictions: (1) Lights were<lb />
out every night at 9 o'clock. (2) Bed<lb />
check was held at 10:30 every eve-<lb />
ning, and the officers meant for the<lb />
cadets to be in bed. (3) If any cadet<lb />
went off the base at night, he had<lb />
to be signed in before 10 o'clock.<lb />
(Yes, everyone had to sign in and<lb />
out every time they went anywhere,<lb />
or just about.)<lb />
The one bright spot about the<lb />
camp was the weekends. If there was<lb />
no duty for a cadet, he could leave<lb />
the base at noon on Saturday and<lb />
stay off post until 10 p.m. Sunday<lb />
evening. Of course, though, the first<lb />
weekend had to be spent on the base,<lb />
as did every evening the first week<lb />
of the camp.<lb />
Camp was not really all work and<lb />
no play, for after 1800 hours (6 p.m.)<lb />
there was intrabarracks competition<lb />
in softball, swimming, basketball,<lb />
volleyball and tennis. A cadet news-<lb />
paper and annual were published at<lb />
the Moody AFB camp. The day room<lb />
had a pool table and a shuffle board,<lb />
which the cadets were welcomed to<lb />
use, and the boys had certain Offi-<lb />
cers' Club privileges.<lb />
Each cadet had an opportunity to<lb />
show his leadership ability as an<lb />
officer, for the cadet officers were<lb />
changed rather frequently. East Caro-<lb />
lina can boast several of the cadet<lb />
colonels during the period. "<lb />
On the final day of camp at the<lb />
"big" review there were some of the<lb />
East Carolina cadets who were given<lb />
their commissions as second lieuten-<lb />
ants. These boys were those who only<lb />
needed to complce their summer<lb />
encampment period.<lb />
The final days of camp saw every-<lb />
one getting ready to leave for home.<lb />
Most of the cadets agreed that the<lb />
camp was profitable in gaining ex-<lb />
perience of what the military life<lb />
will hold in store for them and in<lb />
making many new acquaintances from<lb />
all sections of the country.<lb />
Camp was fun.<lb />
(Editor's note The writer of this<lb />
story attended camp at Moody, but<lb />
the two other programs were very<lb />
similar.)<lb />

TIMELY TOPICS<lb />
by Bob HiUdrup<lb />
It often seems to us that college students<lb />
might substitute the start of the fall term<lb />
each year for New Year's as a time to make<lb />
resolutions.<lb />
In a way perhaps they doat least so<lb />
it sounds at East Carolina when evervone<lb />
returns to the campus in the fall vowing<lb />
that the mistakes they made last vear with<lb />
regard to their studies will happen no more.<lb />
The only trouble is that these things<lb />
never last.<lb />
WThy is it that the rosy ambition of<lb />
September fades to bitter later in the year?<lb />
Somewhere, somehow, something must go<lb />
wrong. And what happens to those students<lb />
that so earnestly made those promises?<lb />
Some adopt the attitude of the Brooklvn<lb />
Dodgers (wait'll next yearwe'll moider<lb />

fined as pseudo-intellectuals<lb />
Of the two classifications the latter<lb />
seems to us to be the more dangerous to the<lb />
welfare of the student. At least it can be said<lb />
that the former philosophy has some small<lb />

two-a-day practices in preparation<lb />

urday night, September 19, against<lb />
Wilson Teachers college of Washing-<lb />
ton, D. C. here.<lb />
A squad of 55, including 26 letter-<lb />
men and 21 frosh, is working out as<lb />
the Buccaneers look toward a nine-<lb />
game- grid slate. Expert throughout<lb />
the state have tabbed the Bucs as<lb />
pre-aeason favorites to cop the North<lb />
State conference crown.<lb />
Despite the wealth of material on<lb />
hand for the coming season, Coach<lb />
Boone faces the job of replacing 14<lb />
departed lettermen. Key men gone<lb />
cherished Bohunk Trophy, from ast year's squad which posted<lb />
a 6-2-2 record plus a 13-6 defeat at<lb />
the hands of Clarion State Teachers<lb />
college in the Lions bowl are Quar-<lb />
terback Sandy Siler and stellar end<lb />

ference quarterback last year as a<lb />
freshman, will handle the regular post<lb />
as field general while Bobby Hodges,<lb />
Al Habit, J. D. Bradford and Larry<lb />
Rhodes lend assistance at the end<lb />
positions.<lb />
One problem which Boone has in<lb />
common with other coaches is how<lb />
to handle the switchback to single<lb />
platoon football. In an interview with<lb />
a reporter the Pirates' mentor said,<lb />
"Actually, the one-platoon rule will<lb />
require no drastic changeover for us.<lb />
La-t year we played our best boys<lb />
and that meant some of them saw<lb />
action both ways. Most of the grad-<lb />
uates were boys who played offense<lb />
Although the starting line-up has<lb />
not definitely been set the locals<lb />
probably will open with either Louis<lb />
Hallow or Gaither Cline, a letterman,<lb />
at center. Guards will come from<lb />
David Lee, James Faircloth, George<lb />
Tucker and Donald Burton. Willie<lb />
Holland leads the tackles and ig fol-<lb />
lowed by Johnny Brown, Thurston<lb />
Callahan and Bobby Thomas.<lb />
In the backfield the Bucs have<lb />
Boyd Webb to fill in for Dick Cherry<lb />
at quarterback, Paul Gay, Toppy<lb />
Hayes, Emo Boado and Jack Britt<lb />
are making the strongest bids for<lb />
the halfback posts. Claude King, last<lb />
year's regular on offense, is still<lb />
working from the fullback post. Ted-<lb />
dy Barnes, Carlton Mathews and<lb />
John Daughtry all will be pushing<lb />
King for the starting assignment.<lb />

the Rues as one to two touchdown<lb />
favorites.<lb />
The evening of September 26 will<lb />
find the Pirates as hosts to the con-<lb />
ference champions Lenoir Rhyne's<lb />
Bears. In last year's clash the Bears,<lb />
who posted an undefeated regular<lb />
season record, edged out the Pirates<lb />
by 7-6. Graduation hit the champs<lb />
hard avid all signs point to a bitter<lb />
battle when the two squads collide.<lb />
Following the Lenoir Rhyne con-<lb />
test the locals will engage Catawba<lb />
at Salisbury, Elon here, Western Car-<lb />
olina at Cullowhee, Guilford and<lb />
Appalachian on the local field and<lb />
then journey to Florida for two clos-<lb />
ing contests with Tampa university<lb />
and Stetson university.<lb />
Catawba college promises to offer<lb />
a real threat to the Pirates' bid for<lb />
Conference honors. Clyde Diggers,<lb />
line coach at East Carolina last year,<lb />
hag moved to Salisbury and is well<lb />
into his rogram of building a power-<lb />
house for the Indians.<lb />
October 10, the date of the Elon<lb />
game, is slated as Homecoming for<lb />
the Bucs. Last year an underdog<lb />
shipload of Pirates came from behind<lb />
to scuttle Elon's Homecoming fes-<lb />
tivities by a 25-9 count.<lb />
In November the Pirates will desert<lb />
North Carolina for Florida to play<lb />
their last two contests. On November<lb />
7 Tampa university, a newcomer to<lb />
Buccaneer athletic cards, will be host<lb />
to the charges of Coach Boone. The<lb />
14th of November will find East<lb />
Carolina's squad in DeLand, Fla<lb />
where they will meet Stetson uni-<lb />
versity's Hatters.<lb />
In last year's Stetson-East Carolina<lb />
contest, the first between the two<lb />
schools the .Pirates gained a 19-19<lb />
tie when halfback Paul Gay dashed<lb />
88 vards for a touchdown with less<lb />

game.<lb />
