Sixteen years ago a treasure<lb />

When the old boilers in the<lb />
power house, which used to<lb />
stand where the dining hall is<lb />
now. were condemmed. there<lb />
secmt d no way of getting rid of<lb />
them. They couldn't be sold.<lb />
(Who in those days even called<lb />
such, scrap iron?) They couldn't<lb />
get anyone or thing to take them<lb />
off of the campus even. So the<lb />
only thing left to do. luckily, was<lb />
to dispose of them on the cam-<lb />
pus. Thus a band of "pirates"<lb />
dug a deep hole on the back cam-<lb />
pus, threw the boilers in, cov-<lb />
ered up the hole, washed their<lb />
hands, and forgot them for six-<lb />
teen years.<lb />
In those sixteen years many<lb />
changes took place on the cam-<lb />

plant was moved with new boil-<lb />
ers, new buildings sprang up.<lb />

They Get All The Blame<lb />
Rumors around the campus have it that high school students<lb />
are not being allowed to use the college library anymore and all<lb />
because some few high school boys have violated college regula-<lb />
tions and have been dating college girls.<lb />
Upon investigation we have found only a small portion of this<lb />
rumor to be true and would like to give the situation as it really<lb />
is. There seems to be enough conflict between the high school and<lb />
college without having some petty gossipers trying to make more.<lb />
The real situation is this. Every spring quarter in addition<lb />
to the usual visitors, the college library is invaded by a large<lb />
number of freshmen and others writing source themes'and term<lb />
papers. It so happens that a large majority of these students do<lb />
heir work at night and when this number is increased by high<lb />
school students who are also writing source themes, conditions<lb />
become pretty crowded.<lb />
In order to alleviate the situation somewhat, the library of-<lb />
ficials have ruled that high school students be allowed the use of<lb />
the library only in the mornings and afternoons. However, to ac-<lb />
comodate those high school students who work in the afternoons,<lb />
the library officials are allowing those students to come over at<lb />
nights but only with the permission of their instructors.<lb />
The library officials are more than willing to have high<lb />
school students and townspeople use the librarv since the Green-<lb />
ville library does not have as complete and adequate periodical<lb />
tiles as the college library, but they also realize that their primary<lb />
Purposeia to serve college students. So in order to accomodate<lb />
both high school and college students, the above rule was made.<lb />
Now for the gossipers. We hope that we have explained the<lb />
situation and that you understand that this regulation has noth-<lb />
ing to do with high school boys dating college girls. Don't blame :<lb />
everything that happens over here on them. Thev have enough<lb />
to worry about trying to avoid the student councils.<lb />
"You can't really be number<lb />
15, too, can you? Whew! Imag-<lb />
ine me getting someone with<lb />
the same price tag as mine and<lb />
not having to look way down<lb />
thyar for him<lb />
"Lawsy me, but 'm glad you<lb />
turned out to be a gal who<lb />
doesn't have to be found with<lb />
a microscope<lb />
Such was the nature of some<lb />
of the greetings at the end of a<lb />
two-day suspense, lasting until<lb />
the blind dates were matched<lb />
Saturday night at the dance.<lb />
However, Gotten Hall carried<lb />
on bravely at entertaining the<lb />
service boys at the Campus<lb />
Bulding. Some of the gals, who<lb />
before the dance, were saying<lb />
that they just knew they'd get<lb />
something like Ish Kabible (?)<lb />
or some other non-glamourous<lb />
drizzly jerk, were the very ones<lb />
who came home from the dance<lb />
all dreamy-eyed and in reverie.<lb />
Believe it or not though, the only<lb />
complaints heard were those<lb />
from some woeful number wail-<lb />
ing because some dizzy blonde<lb />
stole her good-looking drip. So<lb />
be truthful, now, and 'fess up.<lb />
You could still wiggle your toes<lb />
and none were really black and<lb />
blue with bruisesand you real-<lb />
ly did adore those ge-orgous<lb />
blue eyes of his (or were they<lb />
brown) didn't you?<lb />
But. all kidding aside, strange<lb />
as it may seem, these uniformed<lb />
supermen appear to be simply<lb />
cra-azy about the Southern Bel-<lb />
les at EGTG who are found to<lb />
be so willing and anxious to be-<lb />
stow their hospitality to invad-<lb />
ers of our campus. And another<lb />
thing they say is nice about us<lb />
- is our non-shakeable belief in<lb />
the 3 m'sMeals. Mail, and aw,<lb />
Ihow'd you guess it?Men!<lb />
But getting back to the sub-<lb />
ject of the dances given for the<lb />
boys in the service and sponsor-<lb />
ed by the various dormitories,<lb />
its really a swell idea, and one<lb />
everyone can enjoy. So gals,<lb />
brush up on your dancing tech-<lb />
nique and show them we can<lb />
"keep em dancing" as well as<lb />
"keep em flying.<lb />

A large part of the success of this group can be attributed<lb />

for them "out of bound s" (this should also applv to the high<lb />

This rule could be in some way arranged so as to allow the<lb />
entrance of the college's alumni and brothers and other relatives<lb />
of our students engaged in military organizations.<lb />
(No one advocating this rule is either being "unpatriotic<lb />

The group is to be divided in-<lb />
to a league of four teams ac-<lb />
cording to acting manager,<lb />
Esther Parker.<lb />
Much interest is being shown<lb />
by participants, and this should<lb />
develop into some good games<lb />
between the four teams in-<lb />
volved. Heretofore, interest has<lb />
not been shown as much as this<lb />
year.<lb />
Last year the boys organized<lb />
a softball league, and much fun<lb />
and enjoyment was had by all<lb />
participating. There has not as<lb />
yet been any such league or-<lb />
ganized for the men of the<lb />
campus. However, it should be<lb />
of much interest to the boys as<lb />
well as the girls to go down and<lb />
look on at some of the games<lb />
being played this Spring among<lb />
the women.<lb />
Coach Christenbury states<lb />
that his softball class is show-<lb />
ing much improvement, and<lb />
that he is getting a great deal<lb />
of pleasure out of teaching this<lb />
class, so you young ladies who<lb />
are not taking this softball class<lb />
come on out and join up with<lb />
the swell league that has been<lb />

ECTC Athletes<lb />
Are Scholars Too<lb />
It is a general problem for<lb />
coaches in most schools to keep<lb />
their players passing enough<lb />
work to be eligible to partici-<lb />
pate in sports, but "Coach<lb />
John of East Carolina Teach-<lb />
ers College has a far harder<lb />
task: that of helping his boys<lb />
arrange expenses. Well, Coach,<lb />
you're a good manager as well<lb />
as mentor.<lb />
The concensus of opinion,<lb />
when speaking of athletes in<lb />
academics, is that they tend to<lb />
fall below average. This opinion<lb />
can easily be done away with,<lb />
in most cases, when speaking of<lb />

Team In Play-Off<lb />
Dr. Haynes' promising tennis<lb />
squad opens its spring season<lb />
March 15, by facing the Citadel<lb />
on the local courts. Another<lb />
southern conference school, N.<lb />
C. State will be met at a later<lb />
date. Other matches are pend-<lb />
ing with Wake Forest,Louis- j<lb />
burg and William and Mary<lb />
(XD).<lb />
The first round in the ladder<lb />
tournament to determine seed-<lb />
ed places on the squad was com-<lb />
pleted Monday and the second<lb />
round is now in progress.<lb />
From present indications it<lb />
seems almost a certainty that<lb />
Doug Jones will reserve the<lb />
number one spot on the team.<lb />
Norman Wilkerson first and<lb />
second round winner over the<lb />
Hudson brothers, should receive<lb />
the second call. Keith and<lb />
Everette Hudson may divide<lb />
the next two places but will re-<lb />
ceive stern competition from<lb />
the rest of the group. Other<lb />
players participating in the<lb />
tournament are Rogerson. Gad-<lb />
dy, Sidney Johnson, Fisher,<lb />
and Ben Miller.<lb />
The Pirates found their lost<lb />
hitting power yesterday and out-<lb />
plugged the Atlantic Christian<lb />
Bulldogs but ACC made one big<lb />
inning count to walk away with<lb />
'he game by a 11-6 score.<lb />
This makes the third loss, the<lb />
Pirates having lost to Oak<lb />
Ridge Military Institute and<lb />
Campbell College earlier in the<lb />
season. Even though the game<lb />
was lost, Coach John's boys<lb />
showed much improvement over<lb />
previous games played this sea-<lb />
son. ECTC, however, is planning<lb />
to stage a comeback next Friday<lb />
afternoon on the home field.<lb />
Aldrich started on the mound<lb />
tot the Bucs and was reached<lb />
for nine hits in six innings. In<lb />
the fifth frame the Bulldogs<lb />
staged a major uprising and<lb />
blasted five singles, together<lb />
with an error and a base on<lb />
balls, pushed five runs across<lb />
the plate. Dick Gauldin was<lb />
rushed in to squelch the upris-<lb />
ing but the damage had been<lb />
done<lb />
Lassiter, ace Christian pitch-<lb />
er, starred at bat as well as on<lb />
the mound. In the fifth and<lb />
seventh innings, he polled two<lb />
long doubles to deep center.<lb />
Buddy Murray, diminutive<lb />
catcher, was the days star for<lb />
the Pirates. Relieving Sisk in<lb />
the fourth. Buddy smashed three<lb />
clear singles in four trips to the<lb />
plate. Every pirate managed to<lb />
get at least one hit except Aid-<lb />
rich.<lb />
Goodwin and Davis led the<lb />
Christian hitters with three hits<lb />
in five tries.<lb />
The game, played in the Wil-<lb />

over a thousand fans and was<lb />
the initial contest in a four<lb />

are probably familiar with that<lb />
congenial, likeable, new person-<lb />

Miss Robertson's home is<lb />

When asked her impression<lb />
of East Carolina Teachers Col-<lb />

which brought out the dimples<lb />
in her cheeks and said, "I think<lb />
the campus is lovely; the stu-<lb />

but I can't understand why they<lb />
are all afraid of the infirmary . .<lb />
it really is a nice place. Oh, yes,<lb />
another thing, don't the students<lb />
ever go to bed?"<lb />
She has several hobbies, the<lb />
newest and the one receiving<lb />
most of her attention at the<lb />
present is Stamp Collecting.<lb />
She's also fond of sports . . .<lb />
especially Badmitton and Ten-<lb />
