OFFICE OF THE 1990-92 SACS SELF-STUDY THE 1990-92 SACS ACCREDITATION STEERING COMMITTEE CHARGE January 30, 1990 The SACS Accreditation Steering Committee is a blue-ribbon University committee recommended by the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and established by the Chancellor for the purpose of overseeing a thorough, successful, and institutionally useful Self-Study report according to procedures and criteria required by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Members of the Steering Committee represent the entire University during their term of office (1990-92) on the Committee. Specifically, the Steering Committee is charged: --to oversee development of a thoreugh, written perspective on past interactions between the University and SACS, to be used as a point of departure for the present Self-Study; --to oversee the development of and recommend to the VCAA the overall structure of the 1990-92 SACS Accreditation Self-Study. This recommendation will constitute "The Proposal for the East Carolina University SACS Self-Study, 1990-92", a document to be completed, approved, and mailed to SACS in the summer of 1990; --to oversee the working committees and other special committees, if any, that take part in the process; . --to ensure ample involvement of members of the University community in the Self-study process, including those outside of the University who support the University; --to recommend a specific calendar of all Self-Study activities and to ensure that deadlines are met; --to ensure that the University community is regularly informed about progress of the Self-Study, and to coordinate final University approval of the Self-Study report; --to act as coordinating body between the working committees and the University community as needed to @nsure ‘a comprehensive Self-Study; --to act as recommending body regarding any action aa agape by the University prior to the SACS visit; --to act as host committee during the official SACS Committee visit, recommending satisfactory logistics for that visit; --to act as a responsive, working body for recommendations associated with University follow-up to the SACS report; --to perform any other duties consistent with a successful Self- Study, as determined by the VCAA or the Chancellor.
