To Whom The Committee Reports: The Committee makes its recommendations of policies, procedures and standards governing admissions pertaining to academic regulations and residence requirements for degree programs to the Faculty Senate. How Often The Committee Reports: The Committee reports to the Faculty Senate on the academic composition of the freshman class and entering transfer students at least once a year, and reports other times as necessary. Power Of The Committee To Act: The Committee is empowered to make decisions regarding entering student admission appeals. The Committee suggests to the Director of Admissions such research studies as are helpful for evaluation of the efficiency of current practices. Attachment 4 FIRST READING OF PROPOSED AMENDMENT TO APPENDIX A REGARDING THE AGENDA COMMITTEE'S ROLE IN PREPARING DATES FOR FACULTY SENATE MEETINGS. Page A-5: Omit the following underlined wording under Section IX. of the Constitution. Four regular meetings of the Faculty Senate will be held each fall and spring semester according to a schedule prepared the preceding year by the Agenda Committee and presented to the Faculty Senate for approval at the second meeting of the spring semester. A-9: Add the following under Section I. of the By-Laws. The dates for the four regular Faculty Senate meetings held each fall and spring semester will be prepared by the Agenda Committee in the preceding year. The Senate will approve the dates for the Faculty Senate meetings of the next year no later than the fourth meeting of the fall semester. ste te na Attachment 5 GUIDELINES FOR SETTING UNIVERSITY CALENDARS Approved by the Faculty Senate 1/26/88 Amended by the Calendar Committee 12/11/89 Fall and spring semesters will include at least 14 M, T, W, Th, F, and S. Each summer session will have 25 class days. When appropriate, fall semester will include Labor Day as a holiday, a two-day break appended to a weekend in October, a Thanksgiving holiday beginning no later than 1:00 p.m. Wednesday before Thanksgiving and continuing through Saturday, and a Reading Day between the last day of classes and the beginning of exams. There will be a minimum of a three-week break between fall and spring semesters and a minimum of a one-week break between spring semester and the first session of summer school. When appropriate, spring semester will include Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday and Good Friday as holidays, a break of one week, and a Reading Day between the last day of classes and the beginning of exams. Commencement will be scheduled at appropriate times at the end of both fall and spring semesters. When appropriate, fall and spring semester exams will be scheduled on seven days including Saturday according to a rotation schedule. Exams for each summer session will be held on the day after the last class day. Independence Day will be scheduled as a summer session holiday.
