18, 1989 as recommendations to the Strategic Planning
Advisory Group. Inasmuch as the Strategic Planning Advisory
Group had submitted its final report to me prior to the
December 5, 1989 meeting of the Faculty Senate, I believe
that Resolutions #89-24 through #89-28 became
recommendations to me as I complete phase II of the planning
process with the issuance of the University-wide strategic
plan.

Please know that I was guided by the Faculty Senate
Resolutions and by consultations with numerous others in my
report on Strategic Directions for the University. I have
been greatly pleased by the serious, thoughtful attention
given to planning by all sectors of the University and,
particularly, by the faculty. There is no doubt in my mind
that we have begun to chart a course to a new era of
distinction for East Carolina University. Please express my
gratitude to your faculty colleagues for their splendid
contribution to this noteworthy achievement.
