MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 28, 1989

The Curriculum Committee met Thursday, September 28, 1989, at 1:30p.m.
in Brewster B-103. Members present were Cain, Carlton, Coulter,
Grossnickle, Harrington, Lapas, Lunney, Neal, Shea, Topper, Wease, and
Wilentz.

The minutes of April 13, 1989 were read. MATH 2129 should be listed
only under 3.A Early Childhod, page 190. The corequisites and
prerequisites for PHYS 2250, 2260, 2270 (Advanced General Physics)
should read:

Prerequisite or corequisite: MATH 2119 or MATH 2171 for PHYS 2250.
Prerequisite: MATH 1085 for PHYS 2250; PHYS 2250 for PHYS 2260 and
e270:

The request to change the prefix for EDUC 1000 was withdrawn.

Professor Wilbur Castellow, Psychology, presented a request to add
PSYC 1060 (Honors Introduction to Psychology). Carlton moved
acceptance as amended. Wilentz seconded. The motion passed.

Professors Karen Kancock, Susan Magee and James Blake, Leisure Systems
Studies, presented a request to replace LSS 3201 with LSS 3212
(Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Services for Older Adults),
thereby changing BS LSS and Gerontology minor. Wease moved
acceptance, Coulter seconded. The motion passed.

Professor Smith, Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences presented
a proposal for a new track in Cytotechnology under B.S. in Clinical
Laboratory Science; CLSC 4600 (Intro to Clinical Cytology), 4601
(Intro to Cytological Tech), 4610 (Gynecologic Cytology), 4611
(Gynecologic Cytology Lab), 4620 (Respiratory Cytopathology), 4630
(Cytology of Body Fluids), 4640 (Cytology of the Alimentary and
Urinary Tract), 4650 (Cytology of Fine Needle Aspiration), 4660
(Special Tech in Cytology), 4665 (Seminar in Cytotechnology), 4750
(Clinical Ed in Cytology I), 4751 (Clinical Ed in Cyto. II).
Professor Neal moved acceptance, Harrington seconded. The motion
passed.

Grossnickle moved to bank SLAP 5100, ECON 4024, HIST 3130, ITED 5550;
remove from course bank GEOL 1800, 1801, BIOL 5190, 5191, PHIL 3451,
GEOG 3001, Neal seconded. The motion passed.

The meeting adjourned at 2:45 p.m.

General electives to complete requirements for graduation

A minimum grade point average of 2.0 in all biology &
chemistry courses is required for admission into the
professional phase. Majors must maintain a 2.0 gpa in all
CLSC courses. A student earning less than a C in any of
these courses must petition the Department of Clinical
Laboratory Science for probationary continuation and may be
required to repeat the course.

An introduction to the study of clinical cytology including
cellular anatomy, growth, and response to inflammation, injury,

Instructions and practice in the proper use and care of the
microscope and preparation and staining of routine
cervical-vaginal smears. The course will also include an

Study of the anatomy, physiology and patho-physiology of the
