Agenda Item I. Call to Order Conner Atkeson, Chair, called the meeting to order at 2:10 p.m. He gave a brief history of the Senate since its origination in 1965 and welcomed the newly elected Senators. During the session, Robert Graham (Psychology) was recognized as being a member of the first Faculty Senate at ECU. He also served as a member of the committee that drew up the first Faculty Senate Constitution. Bob Woodside (Math), Faculty Governance Committee Chair, announced that the Faculty Governance Committee had begun review of the Appendix D revision as recommended by the ad hoc committee. The review schedule for the fall was outlined as follows: September, meet with the ad hoc committee; October, hold open hearings; November, committee discussion; January, report to the Senate. Atkeson urged the Senators to review during the summer the AAUP document, forwarded to them from the Faculty Senate Office, regarding Affirmative Action. Agenda Item II. Roll Call Jim Joyce (Physics), Secretary, introduced Sharon Bland, Faculty Senate Office Secretary, for the official roll call. Members absent were as follows: Chancellor Eakin; Vice Chancellors Bloodworth, Laupus, and Matthews; Dean Grove; Chamness (Faculty Assembly); Patton (Aerospace); Schellenberger (Business); Bays (Economics); Cunningham, Dudek, Gregory, and Pories (Medicine). Following the presentations, the names of the candidates for Vice Chair of the Faculty and Secretary of the Faculty were placed into nomination.
