EAST CAROLINA UNIVERSITY CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MINUTES OF MARCH 23, 1989 The Curriculum Committee met Thursday, March 23, 1989, at 1:30 p.m. in Brewster B-103. Members present were Carlton, Coulter, Grossnickle, Lunney, Neal, O'Rear, Shea, Topper, Wilentz and Yount. Members absent were Buckler, Cain, Hogg and Landry. The minutes of February 23, 1989, were read. Spanish 4319, French 4319, and German 4319, listed as courses to be deleted, are to be banked. In addition, on page two of the catalogue copy, second item, SPAN 3215 should read SPAN 3217. The minutes were approved as amended. The Geography Department requested editorial changes of prerequisites and course description of GEOG 5067. Geographic Information Systems I to bring them into conformity with the version passed by the Graduate Council. Shea moved acceptance, Grossnickle seconded. The motion passed. Professor Bob Bernhardt, Mathematics, presented requests to revise MATH 1085. Pre-Calculus Mathematic, MATH 2119. Elements of Calculus, MATH 2171. Calculus I, and to change the name of MATH 5801 to Probability Theory and change the course description. O'Rear moved acceptance, Shea seconded. The motion passed. Professor Bob Thompson, Political Science, requested approval of a new course, POLS 5000. American Government and Politics. Carlton moved acceptance, Wilentz seconded. The motion passed. The Committee recommended the name to be modified to Readings in American Government and Politics to more accurately reflect course content. Professors Hugh Wease and John Ellen, History, requested approval of changes in the Curriculum for Preparation of Teachers, Social Studies Certification, leading to the B.S. degree in History. Yount moved acceptance as amended, Shea seconded. The motion passed. Professor Peggy Wittman, Occupational Therapy, requested approval of modifications to OCCT 4053. Optional Level II Fieldwork Experience, and OCCT 4047. Directed Independent Study; making OCCT 4053 and 4047 repeatable; deletion of OCCT 4041, 4020, 4021, 4030, 4031, 4521, 4522, 4990, 4991, 4992, 4995, 4996, 4997, 4998; and revision of the B.S. degree in Occupational Therapy. OCCT 4053 was withdrawn from consideration. Topper moved acceptance as amended, Coulter seconded. The motion passed. Professors Calvin Mercer, Philosophy; Doug McMillan, English; and Charles Garrison, Sociology and Anthropology, presented a request for a new minor in Religious Studies, and approval of ASRS 2000. Introduction to Religious Studies, and ASRS 5000. Religious Studies Seminar. A letter of support was presented from Professor Jim Smith, Philosophy. Yount moved acceptance as amended, Shea seconded. The motion passed. Professor John Lutz, Psychology, presented a request to revise the B.A. degree in Psychology, change the prerequisite for PSYC 2101 and delete PSYC 2102 and 3211. Carlton moved acceptance, Coulter seconded. The motion passed. Professors Patricia Weeks and Pat Pertalion, Dance, requested revision of the BFA degree in Dance; addition of DNCE 2201, 2202. Dance Improvisation I, II, and DNCE 4048. Choreography Project; revision of DNCE 3000, 3001; adding prerequisites for DNCE 2033 and 2043. Wilentz moved acceptance as amended, Yount seconded. The motion passed. Professors Eunice Messler and Phyllis Horns, Nursing requested revision of the B.S. degree in Nursing, deletion of NURS 3300, 3301, and addition of NURS 3400. Family-Centered Maternity Nursing, NURS 3401. Practicum in Family-Centered Maternity Nursing, NURS 3500. Nursing of Infants and Children, NURS 3501. Practicum for Nursing of Infants and Children.
