New Business Attachment 1 GRADING SYSTEM, GRADE POINTS, AND GRADE POINT AVERAGE (To replace the corresponding section on pg 46, ECU 1988-90 Undergraduate Catalog) (Changes are underlined) (To be effective, Fall 1990) A grade (quality) point system based on all hours attempted at East Carolina University is used to calculate student scholarships. The following grade symbols are currently in use for all undergraduate courses: A-excellent, B-good, C-average, D-barely passed, F-failed (course must be repeated to secure credit), I-incomplete (deficiency in quantity, not quality, of work), N-audited. The grades A,B,C, and D may be modified by the addition of a plus (+) or a minus (-) (The grade of A+ will not be used). A grade of A is worth 4.0 points; a B is worth 3.0; a C is worth 2.0 points; a D is worth 1.0 points; and an F is worth 0 points. If the grade is modified by a plus (+), then the point value is increased by 0.3 point. If the grade is modified by a minus (-), then the points value is decreased by 0.3 points. The grade points for a course are computed by multiplying the number ot semester-hour credits by the point value of the course grade. No grade points are given for a grade of F, but hours attempted are recorded for each attempt of a given course. In those situations where a student has failed a given course more than one time, commencing with the second failure, the attempted hours offered for the course shall not be counted in computing the student's grade point average if the student initiates the Multiple F Policy in the Office of the Registrar. The grade point average is obtained by dividing the total number of grade points earned by the total number of semester hours attempted. Attachment 2 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION (To replace the first paragraph of the corresponding section, on pg 50, ECU 1988-90 Undergraduate Catalog) (Additions are underlined; deletions are overstruck) (To be effective, Fall 1989) Any student who receives a degree from East Carolina University must complete, in resident study at East Carolina University: --A minimum of thirty semester hours --At_least one-half of the total hours required in the major discipline, as determined by the faculty of the unit offering the degree. The required resident study does not need to be accomplished in consecutive semesters.
