ECU CURRICULUM COMMITTEE October 13, 1988 The Curriculum Committee met Thursday, October 13, 1988, at 1:30 p.m., in Brewster B=103. Members present were Buckler, Carlton, Coulter, Grossnickle, Keeter, Lunney, Neal, Shea, Topper, Wilentz, Yount, and Cain (ex-officio). Members Absent: Mary Fordham and Sheri Neal The minutes of March 24, 1988, were approved as read. Professors Art Haney and Abdul-Shakoor Frahadi of the School of Art presented the following requests: (1) approval of ART 1301. Introduction to Metal Design; ART 1302. Introduction to Wood Design; (2) deletion of ART 1300. Wood and Metal Design; (3) replace ART 1300 with ART 1301 and/or 1302, as appropriate, including modifications of degree requirements for the BFA in Art Education. Topper moved to accept as amended, Neal seconded. The motion passed. Professor Carson Bays of the Department of Economics presented the following requests for approval: ECON 3520. Mathematical Economics; ECON 3630. Health Economics; ECON 3740. Urban and Regional Economics; ECON 3850. Resource Economics; ECON 3960. Economics of Public Choice. Bob Bernhardt of the Mathematics Departments has been consulted regarding MATH prerequisite for ECON 3520. Carlton moved the courses be approved, Buckler seconded. The motion passed. Grossnickle moved deletion of the following courses at the end of the current semester: OCCT 4010, 4020, 4021, 4030, 4031, 4521, 4522, 4990, 4991, 4992, 4995, 4996, 4997, 4998. Seconded by Neal, the motion passed. Motion by Grossnickle to bank the following courses: PHYS 3100, ENGL 5410; CLHS 5325; HSTA 5300, 5350. Seconded by Neal, the motion passed. Grossnickle moved the following course be taken from the Course Bank: ITAL 1001. Elementary Italian. Seconded by Neal, the motion passed. Professor Jim Joyce presented the request by the Physics Department for the revision of the course descriptions of PHYS 5716 and 5717. Acceptance moved by Coulter and seconded by Buckler, the motion passed. The proposal by the Mathematics Department for the addition of MATH 3174 was postponed until the next meeting because no representative from Math was present. Grossnickle announced that Ed Keeter has resigned from the Committee and will be replaced by Charles O'Rear. The meeting was adjourned.
