CURRICULUM COMMITTEE MINUTES - OCTOBER 22, 1987 6... Curriculum Committee met Thursday, October 22, 1987, at 1:00 p.m. in Brewster B103. Members present were: Steele, Carlton, Neal, Wilentz, Topper, Grossnickle, Muller, Cain (ex-officio) and Sexauer (ex-officio). Absent: Keeter, Lunney, Coulter, Yount. The minutes of 10/8/87 were approved with the following changes: a change in prerequisite for DNCE 3072 from PHYE to DNCE 3070 and on catalogue page 244, BS in Env. Health, B should read Industrial Hygiene Option, Clarified minutes to indicate that Virginia Joyner and Bob Bernhardt represented Math. Professor Thompson requested that POLS 3145 (Soviet Foreign Policy) be included among the courses to be included within the choices for the Military Science, European Studies, and Aerospace minors. Letters also requesting the change were presented from Major Stephens of Military Science, Professor Laudati, Coordiantor of European Studies, and Captain Kopanski of Aerospace Studies. Wilentz moved, Muller seconded, motion passed. Professor Thompson also represented Political Science for the following requests: 1) Revise BA and BS in Policital Science and Pol. Sc. and Comparative Government and International Relations Minors. 2) Add POLS 3223 (Constitutional Powers), 4360 (Politics of Developing Areas), 5030 (Seminar in American Government), 5050 (Seminar Political Participation and Behavior), 5381 (Seminar in Comparative Politics), 5410 (Seminar in Int. Rel.). 3) Delete POLS 4325 (Constitutional Law). Neal moved the package as amended; Sexauer seconded, motion passed. Professor George Williams requested that PHYE 2767 (Skills and Methods of Gymnastics) be 6.25 from 2 to 1 s.h., thereby changing the BS Health and Physical Education Major. arlton moved, Wilentz seconded; motion passed. Professor Erber requested that the ITED BS Curriculum for preparation of teachers be revised to include changes in the technology core, allowing substitution of Geology for Physics for the Construction concentration, and increasing teh degree requirements to 128 s.h. Muller moved the request as amended; Neal seconded; motion passed. Professor Barbara Memory requested that the prerequisites for MUSC 2277 and 2287 be changed for more flexible course sequencing. Topper moved; Steele seconded; motion passed. Professors Zonn, Shea, and Hankins represented Geography to request the addition of GEOG 5210 (Terrain Analysis), 3230 (Global Climates), 3300 (Geographic Images), PLAN 5035 (Community Planning for Health Facilities); the banking of 5200 and 3210; the change of 2019 from 2 to 3 s.h.; these changes revise the BA Geography and BS in Urban and Regional Planning. The request was made to consider GEOG 2019 separately. Carlton moved the remainder of the amended package; Wilentz seconded; motion passed. Cain then moved that GEOG 2019 be changed from 2 to 3 s.h. but that the effect on Leisure System Studies be deferred until the Committee hears from LSS; Carlton seconded; motion passed. Professor Terrell presented ELEM 2123 (Early Experiences for the Prospective Teacher). Since some related materials had not been received, the proposal was postponed until the next meeting. Professors Schwarz and Mayberry represented the Department of Foreign Language for the following changes: Add French 1040 (French Language in France I), 3040 (Fr. Language in France II), SPAN 4234 (Contemp. Sp. American Lit.), change title of 5370 (Cervantes) and increase from 2 to 3 s.h.; add SPAN 2215 (Span. Phonetics and the Structure of Language); delete SPAN 2227 and 3215. Revise BA,BS (Teaching) and BS (Professional) Spanish Majors and BS Middle Grades Ed (Spanish Concentration). Neal moved the package as amended; Steele seconded; motion passed.
