TO: All Faculty FROM: Ken Wilson, Chair DATE: April 16, 1987 After the Senate Organizational Meeting, the Senate Officers discovered that two departments continued to send Senators elected for the 1986-87 academic year who were not elected for the 1987-88 year. Since these persons were seated and participated, the business will stand. The Chair will take steps to see that these electoral units hold proper elections before the September meeting. EAST CAROLINA UNIVERSITY FACULTY SENATE April 15, 1987 The Faculty Senate held its 1987/88 Organizational Meeting on Wednesday, April 15, 1987, in Mendenhall Student Center, Room 244. Agenda Item I. Call to Order Ken Wilson, Chair, called the meeting to order at 2:10 p.m. Tellers for the elections were Patricia Anderson, George Bissinger, Dan Hines Marsha Ironsmith, Maria Malby, Frank Murphy, Bill Shires, Marilyn Stephenson, and Marion Sykes. The Chair expressed thanks to these individuals for serving in this capacity. Agenda Item II. Roll Call Sharon Bland, Faculty Senate Office Secretary, introduced each of the Faculty Senators in the form of roll call. Those absent were Dudek (Medicine) and Jones (Science Education). Ex-officio members absent were Chancellor Eakin, Vice Chane+llor Volpe, Vice Chancellor Laupus, and James L. Smith (Faculty Assembly Delegate). Alternates present were Knoke for Patton (Aerospace), Evans for Morrison (Chemistry), Markowski for Steele (Home Ec.), Pennington for Duckett (Medicine), and Shank for Schwartz (Music). Agenda Item III. Report of Committees A. Report of Nominating Committee for Senate Officers Dan Hines, Reporting Hines (Business) called the Senators' attention to the slate of nominees for Senate Officers which was attached to the meeting Agenda. The Chair announced the candidates for Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary. Three separate elections were held. There were no nominations from the floor for any of the offices. The elections were held as follows: Faculty Senate Chair: Connor Atkeson 26 votes Madge Chamness 23 votes Faculty Senate Vice Chair: Jo Ann Jones 35 votes Robert Schellenberger 15 votes Faculty Senate Secretary: James Joyce 28 votes Belinda Lee 23 votes The slate of officers for the 1987/88 academic year will be Connor Atkeson (Chair), Jo Ann Jones (Vice Chair), and James Joyce (Secretary). Memory was elected on the second ballot. Administrative Committees The same format was followed for electing representatives to the Administrative Committees. The following names were placed into nomination: Judy Sadler, Lib & Info Studies votes Connie Kledaras, Social Work 32 votes Dan Hines, Business 36 votes Martha Engelke, Nursing 23 votes Sadler, Kledaras, and Hines were elected. D. Election of 1987/88 Agenda Committee The Chair called for nominations to fill the five positions on the Agenda Committee. The following were nominated: Bill Grossnickle, Psychology 28 votes Ar rtemi Kares, Ac Lib Svs 36 votes Ennis Chastang: Geography 33 votes David White, HPERS 31 votes Judy Bernhardt, Nursing 30 votes Mark Whelan, Technology 31 votes Kares, Chestang, White, Bernhard, and Whelan were elected. Hough (Faculty Assembly Delegate) reminded the Senators of the elections that a would be held at the September meeting, and asked that careful consideration be given to the nominees for the Hearing, Reconsideration, and Due Process Committees as these are very important positions. Pinkney (Counseling Center) inquired as to the charge of each committee. The Chair briefly elaborated on each. (Charges of these Committees may be found in the Faculty Manual. ) Kledaras (Social Work) thanked the Chair for his two years of hard work in the Sexauer (Art) questioned the possibility of a different room arrangement so that Senators would be able to see one another.
