The Acting Vice Chancellor asked the Senate for help in forming a committee to review recommendations for tenure and promotion. He requested a list of five faculty members from which he would select at least three names to serve on this advisory committee. The Chair of the Senate asked the Comittee on Committees to make five nominations for this committee. A brief statement of committee organization, subcommittees, research activities, etc. Holly Mathews, Chair Robert Woodside, Vice Chair Judy Sadler, Secretary A subcommittee chaired by R. Woodside and including Rk. Eldridge and past member, T. Gartman reviewed ex-officio members on each committee charge and survey each committee about the status and/or need of ex-officio members on the committees. List of Committee Accomplishments: (1) The CoC felt that it could not carry out the request of the Chair of the Faculty (see V.) to submit to the Faculty Senate a slate of nominees for Vice Chancellor Bloodworth's advisory committee on tenure and promotion recommendations. The Faculty Senate upheld this action by voting down a motion to ask the CoC to submit a slate of nominees at the January Senate meeting. (December 1, 1987 Faculty Senate minutes) Submitted nominations for Faculty Ass j (January 26, 1988 Faculty Senate minutes) Recommended to the Faculty Senate that ex-officio committee members serve without vote, with certain exceptions, but with all other privileges. Faculty Senate Resolution #&8-16 passed on March 15, 1988. Revised the following committee charges: Career Education Committee at Faculty Governance Committee Unit Code Screening Committee Admissions Committee Calendar Committee Continuing Education Committee Faculty Computer Committee Solicited volunteers and submitted nominations for Faculty Senate Academic Committees and for allotted faculty positions on the Administration's Administrative committees. Citation of the Resolution Numbers of Senate Resolutions: Senate Resolution #88-16 Faculty Senate Academic Committee Ex-officio Members Voting Privileges. Proposals and Business Carried Over to Next Year: A. Request of the Research/Creative Activity Committee to: (1) eliminate ex-officio status of the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement and (2) extend ex-officio status to the Director of Sponsored Programs. Changing on the Faculty Governance Committee charge the Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Medical School as ex-officio to the Vice Chancellor for Health sciences. Request of the Student Recruitment and Retention Committee to: (1) consider adding as an ex-officio member Betsy Harper of the Division of Continuing Education, and (2) consider the possibility of reorganizing committees to put Admissions and Student Recruitment together, and move retention functions to the Course Drop Appeals Committee.
