The FCC serves to make recommendations regarding academic
computing to the Faculty Senate, CIS, and ISAC.

List of committee accomplishments including recommendations
made to agencies other than the Faculty Senate.

1. A policy to regulate the external use of academic
computing resources was developed and submitted to ISAC
(eventually modified slightly and adopted).

2. Recommended that ISAC remove the FCC from the approval
process for computing hardware and software (implemented).

3. Recommended to the Committee on Committees that our ex-
officio membership be revised to include only: Chair of

the Faculty Senate, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs,
Director of Computing and Information Systems (or their rep. ).
4. Submitted a policy to ISAC to regulate academic

computer labs which are supported in full or in part by CIS.
, Investigated how “academic computing” funds are being
spent by CIS and began an on-going dialog with CIS regarding
priorities for the use of these funds.

6. Recommended to the Unified Computer Planning Committee
(Dick Edwards, chair) that more funds be made available for
academic computing needs and that funds budgeted for academic
computing actually be spent on academic computing.

7. Recommended to Business Affairs that microcomputer
insurance remain optional for departmental microcomputers.

8. Recommended to the CIS Director Search Committee that more
candidates be interviewed before a decision is made.

9. Submitted a resolution to ISAC requesting that the CIS
budget for computing be presented to the FCC for its comments
near the beginning of each academic year.

10. Reviewed and approved a policy proposed by CIS to
regulate temporary access to academic computing resources by
visiting faculty/staff.

11. Submitted a resolution to ISAC, Facilities Committee, and
the University planner requesting that high priority be given
to additional computer lab space when new and/or remodeled
space is made available.

Continued discussion with CIS regarding academic computing
priorities.

Revise the FCC handbook for committee members.

Evaluation of the committee

A. Structure -- The structure appears to be adequate.

B. Duties -- Committee duties are appropriately defined.

C. Functions -- The commmittee functions efficiently and
effectively; our relationships with ISAC and CIS have been
good and show signs of growing even stronger.

Personnel -- Most members attend regularly and contribute
effectively to the mission of the committee.

Suggestions for improving the effectiveness of the committee.
