Maritime History of the Western World Since 1815 (3), HIST 5530. Field School in Maritime History and Underwater Research (2). These course changes will affect the B.S. Degree in Public History and the minor program in Historical Preservation and“Underwater Research. The question was raised concerning the reason the Field course was only 2 semester hours instead of 3. It was pointed out that it was usually offered in the summer and the tuition for over 2 s.h. was so much higher that it was done this way to keep the student's cost down. Muller moved to approve the changes. Wease seconded. The motion passed. Professors David Poretta and Lorrayne Graff of the Department of HPERS were present. Poretta presented the changes in the B. S. Curricula for the Preparation of Teachers and the new courses PHYE 1052. Intermediate Gymnastics (1) and PHYE 3555. Teaching Physical education in the Elementary School (3). Since Physical education majors are certified K-12 it was felt that the students in the Secondary emphasis needed more information about elementary schooi physical education. Graff presented opposition to the PHYE 3555 and the changes in the B. S. degree. She stated that there was some duplication with PHYE 2300 and that the focus of the new course should be more movement oriented and have less emphasis on activities. After additional questions and discussion, Coulter moved to approve the changes as amended. Yount seconded. The motion passed. The meeting adjourned at 3:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Stella Daugherty, Secretary CURRICULUM COMMITTEE CATALOGUE COPY FEBRUARY 12, 1987 Remove from Curriculum Bank: BIOL 5040, 5041.
