SUBJECT: Special Meeting to’ Honor Chancellor Howell

In light ofthe attached resolution passed unanimously on January 27, 1987 by the
ECU Factilty Senate,~there will be°a special-meeting to honor Chancellor»Howell on

Tuesday, February 17, 1987, at 2:10 p.m. in Mendenhall, room 244. All faculty are
invited to attend.

Resolution #87-3

WHEREAS, the tradition of excellence in teaching has been nurtured at East
Carolina University during the tenure of Chancellor John Howell;

WHEREAS, the pursuit of knowledge through research has been promoted at East
Carolina Universitv during the tenure of Chancellor John Howell;

WHEREAS, the delivery of public services has been entanced at East Carolina

University during the tenure of Mancellor John Howell,

WHEREAS, the University Scholars Awards have been established at East
Carolina University during the tenure of Chancellor John Howe 11 ;

WHEREAS, the growth in medical education and services has been profound at
Fast Carolina University during the tenure of Qhancellor John Howell;

WHEREAS, the benefits of private support have multiplied at East Carolina
University during the temire of Mancellor John Howell;

WHEREAS, the School of Social Work has been established at East Carolina
University during the tenure of Chancellor John Howell;

WHEREAS, the relationship between a growing regional constituency and the
academic community has been strengthened at Nast Carolina University during the

tenure of Chancellor John /lowell;

WHEREAS, the solid institutional reputation founded in large measure on the
aforementioned accomplishments has become a source of great pride at Fast
Carolina University during the tenure of Cnancellor John Howe 11 ;

THEREFORE, the East Carolina University Faculty Senate resolves that Dr. John
Howell be commended for his extraordinary leadership as Chancellor of this

institution.
