Parker, Chair, Faculty Senate Committee ve 1 on Student Recruitment and Retention = RE: Committee Recommendation DATE: April 14, 1986 The Student Recruitment and Retnetion Committee reviewed the following proposal drafted by Dean Bailey and Associate Dean Speier and recommended to those gentlemen that they implement the proposal. 1. Develop and implement training session for faculty who will assist with orientation advising. If possible, session will be scheduled late in the spring semester for faculty who are appointed to serve as orientation advisors. The Faculty Senate should strongly emphasize to faculty members the importance of their attending these training sessions, and the Senate consider any other apporpriate measures to insure faculty advisors attend the training sessions. Develop manual for orientation advising which will be the basis for part of the training session and which will be distributed to all faculty who work with orientation advising. (Some elements of the manual have been developed in the past but have not been systematically distributed to faculty.) Pursue options available which will permit advising to be accomplished as early on the day of registration as is possible. Provide the General College in the Spring semester with a list of faculty who will be advising during the summer so that the General College can determine specific teaching schedules of those advisors and therefore determine when training sessions for them can be scheduled. Propose the following for improving on-lie registration: ae Modify orientation schedule to permit early acess to terminals on day of registration. Use staged acess to terminals similar to emergency paln that was developed for 1985 when system failed.
