Call To Order II. Approval of Minutes of March 18, 1986 Addition to Minutes from AAUP Report (supplied by C. Adler after last meeting): The 1940 Statement says: “Beginning with appointment to the rank of full-time instructor or a higher rank, the probationary period should not exceed seven years..." Its language thus suggests a possible distinction between the full-time teacher who holds the rank of Instructor or higher, and the full-time teacher who does not-thus the full-time teacher who is called (as it might be) “Lecturer.” But it seems plain that the authors of the 1940 Statement had no such distinction in mind; and one of the 1970 Interpretive Comments-number 5-specifies that “the concept of rank of full-time instructor or a higher rank is intended to include any person who teaches a full-time load regardless of his specific title."
