The Curriculum Committee met Thursday, February 27, 1986 at 1°30 p.m. in
Brewster R-103. Members present were: Topper, Muller, Hancock, McMillan,
Yount, Steele, Templeton, Carlton, Grossnickle, Daugherty, Cain (ex-officio)
and Lassiter (student).

Members absent were: Wease and Perry (student).

The minutes of January 23, 1986 were approved as written.

Professor Stephen Heater, Department of Occupational Therapy, presented the
request to delete OCCT 3011, 3013, 4011, 4022, all 0 s.h. credit. This change
affects the Degree in Occupational Therapy and several prerequisites. (See
Catalogue Copy for details.) Steele moved to approve the changes as amended.
Hancock seconded. The motion passed.

Professor Carson Rays, Department Sociology, Anthropology and Economics,
presented the request for a new course ECON 1000. General Economics (3). He
indicated that he had contacted the persons involved with the following majors
and minors: Cognate Minor for Professional Officers; Business Administration
Minor; Food, Nutrition and Institutional Management Majors; Clothing and
Textiles Maior; Bachelor of Science in Business Education; and Minor in
Military Science. All of these indicated that where ECON 2113 is required it
should be changed to ECON 1000 or 2113. Lassiter moved to approve the course
as amended. Carlton seconded. The motion passed.

Professor Emilie Henning, School of Nursing, presented the request for a new
course NURS 3205. Health in the Older Adult (3). She stated that no
additional staff or resources were necessary for the course. Yount moved to
approve the course as amended. Topper seconded. The motion passed,

Professor Grossnickle moved that GEOL 5710, 5711, HIST 4679, and CHEM 5760,
5761 be removed from the Curriculum Bank. Daugherty seconded. The motion
passed.

Professor Grossnickle moved to delete FREN 2109, 2115, 2228. McMillan
seconded. The motion passed.

The changes in General Education forwarded to the Committee by the General
College Committee were discussed. The requirement that science majors must
meet the science requirement outside their maior field brings this in line
with the similar requirement with regard to Social Science. That Rroadcasting
not be counted as a Fine Art clarifies a mix-un made when Drama and Speech
became the Department of Theatre Arts and introduced new prefixes for these
courses. The request to reduce the number of required hours in social science
from 13 to 12 was suggested to make meeting this requirement easier. In the
discussion it was pointed out that this particular change could possibly
affect every degree in some way. Carlton moved that the changes be approved.
Templeton seconded. The motion passed. Carlton then moved that in view of
the affect this would have on all degrees that this change not take effect
until the 1988-90 catalogue, thereby giving all schools and departments time
to make any degree changes this might require. Daugherty seconded, The
motion passed with one disserting vote.
