Faculty Affairs Committee, Marsha Ironsmith, Chair Resolution On Part-time Faculty Be it resolved: That the Faculty Senate of East Carolina University notify the appropriate administrative officers that the Senate interprets that the time limit referred to in Subsection III.C.2.c. of Appendix D, Fixed Term Employment Policy, does not apply to part-time faculty. For the purposes of this resolution, part-time faculty are defined as those faculty members who occupy 75% or less of a Full-Time Equivalency. Be it further resolved: That the above means that faculty members who have reached the six-year limit as full-time employees cannot be hired by the University again as part-time employees. VI. August 19, 1987 Attachment 3 REVISION OF FACULTY SENATE BYLAWS REGARDING NON-TENURE TRACK FACULTY SERVING ON COMMITTEES Move all that follows under FACULTY. SENATE COMMITTEES of the 1985 edition of the Faculty Manual of East Carolina University, beginning on p. 19, continuing on p. 20, and on p. 21 through the first 6 lines of p. 21, to become Section V of the By-Laws of East Carolina Faculty Senate, p. A - 10 (making the present Section V new Section VI), to be titled, Faculty Senate Academic Committees, Membership and Structure, with the following changes: By Strike the first sentence under Faculty Senate Academic Committees, p. 19 age (a) Strike the first sentence under Membership, p. 19 and replace with: All faculty eligible. for election to the Faculty Senate are eligible, except where otherwise specified, to serve on the two Faculty Senate Committees and on Faculty Senate Academic Committees. (b) p. 19, 5 lines from the bottom,. strike: "considered to be." (c) p. 20, paragraph one add to the last sentence: "by the Chancellor." as On p. 20 under Officers: (a) First Sentence, insert the words, “by the members of the committee," immediately following "excluding ex-officio members." (b) Strike the sentence beginning on line:6, "The chairperson of each committee should be a full-time teaching member of the faculty, elected by the committee." 4. Faculty Senate Academic Committees All faculty eligible for election to the Faculty Senate are eligible, except where otherwise specified, to serve on the two Faculty Senate Committees and on Faculty Senate Academic Committees. The Chancellor and the Chair of the Faculty are ex officio members of all committees. The Faculty Senate nominates, with the approval of the Chancellor of the University, the elected members of the committees. Members of committees are appointed in accordance with their ability, training, and experience rather than as-representatives of their several departments or schools. 20, add to last sentence in first paragraph: "by the Chancellor." Student members are nominated by the Student Government Association for appointment by the Chancellor, page 20, under Officers: Officers: Officers of each committee are elected from the membership of the committee, excluding ex-officio members by the members of the committee, for a term of one year. Previous service as a committee officer shall not prejudice a member's election to any committee office. Under normal circumstances each committee shall have a chairperson, a vice-chairperson, and a secretary. Upon organization of the new committee, the former chairperson will turn over committee records to the new chairperson. A committee chair may declare an elected member's seat vacant upon the occurrence of three consecutive absences of that member. Interim elections may be held to fill an office that has become vacant or to replace an officer that two-thirds of the full committee membership deems is not fulfilling the obligations of the office. Move first sentence of seventh line: "As the need arises, additional committees are created to assist in the policy-making process." after the last committee listed, which is "Teaching Grants Committee," and before "Administrative Policy."
