A motion from the Governance Committee concerning the lack of faculty involvement in the Search process failed after considerable discussion (1 hour). The failure of the motion in no way diminished the concern of the Assembly at the way in which the Search has been conducted, since the Assembly assumed from correspondence and statements from the beginning, that the Advisory Committee members would be a part of the process throughout the search. This has not happened. The report from Planning & Programs included some information not previously reported by Dr. Stedman: N. C. will need 13,000 new teachers over the next ten years; teacher preparation will rest largely in the Arts and Sciences; we are heading towards a fifth year for teacher training; scholarships will become available; and summer schools will be common. The Professional Development Committee is studying professional leaves. The Welfare Committee is studying our health care contract, comparing it with those in other states. More specifically, regarding personal traits, the successful candidate must possess: -~ an open mind -- awillingness to engage in free and frequent dialogue with the many constituencies served a willingness to believe that there is often more than one correct solution a high standard of integrity excellent oral and written communication skills excellent human relation skills an exceptional sense of humor an outstanding constitution which is physically vigorous, mentally alert and active WHEREAS WHEREAS WHEREAS RESOLUTION the Broadcasting Faculty of the Department of Theatre Arts has been informed that the search for an acceptable new transmitting frequency for the campus radio station WZMB has proven technically unfeasible; and we strongly support the maintenance of a diversity of public radio signals being available to listeners on the campus and throughout the Greenville area; and the location of the proposed 3,000-watt transmitter on the Tyler dormitory (WZMB‘s current transmitter location) would likely create a “blanketing” effect which would cause interference with several other public radio stations in the area, and may interfere with communications, Closed Circuit Television, and data transmission equipment on the campus; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that we strongly urge the present administrative and engineering staff of WZMB and the WZMB Advisory Board and the Chancellor to make every effort to find a method of avoiding this interference before permitting the implementation of a power increase.
