Reports to Faculty Senate:

On February 25, 1986, Bob Woodside presented the proposed change in
the charge of the Committee on Committees to the Faculty Senate. The
change called for the election of six instead of five committee
members in order to spread the work load among more people and offer
an opportunity for more disciplines to be represented on the
committee. The change also called for the election of three members
each year to two-year terms in order to guarantee that the Committee
would always have experienced members beyond the ex-officio members
and to improve the sense of continuity on the Committee.

Brief Statement of Committee Organization:

According to the revised charge, approved on February 25, 1986 by the
Faculty Senate, the Committee on Committees has a membership of six
elected faculty members, plus ex-officio: (Chair of the Faculty,
immediate Past Chair of the Committee on Committees, and immediate
Past Chair of the Faculty in residence, who shall not serve in the
event of the reelection of the present Chairperson. )

Committee Accomplishments:

The Committee revised its charge which passed the Faculty Senate

on February 25, 1986. The Committee also solicited faculty volunteers
and then prepared a slate of nominees for all academic and
administrative committees. These slates will be presented to the
Faculty Senate for a vote on April 23, 1986.

Proposals and Business to be Carried Over:

The Committee voted to carry over to the next year a study of the
charge of the Faculty Governance Committee and a consideration of

the need for a committee to work on reviewing unit codes. This
decision was made because the heavy work load of the Committee in

the Spring of 1986 did not allow time for the detailed attention these
matters will require.

Perhaps the wording in the membership charges for the
Research/Creative Activity Committee and the Teaching Grants Committee
could be improved.

Structure: It is hoped that the new structure will enhance the work
of the Committee.

Functions: Satisfactory

Changes were made and approved by the Senate.
